Seems to me a salary dump for some "organizational depth" i.e. Syracuse

The missing piece *evil grin* muhahahahahaha

I hate to say this as Hartigan is having a helluva year but now would be the time to unload the kid if he isn't in our plans. His value won't get much higher. The guy needs top 6 minutes and I'm just not sure he fits into the top 6 on this team.

I'd like to see him given a real shot as well so maybe a trade is best for both parties. That would be a significant blow to the Crunch and their run though.

Food for thought.

Call out to Gonzoid as I see he played with the Cincy Ducks for 3-4 years for a scouting report.

I see your point, however, I think DMGM will do whatever he can to help Syracuse get far in the playoffs. The farther the Crunch go, the more games Fritsche, AJ, OK, Picard, etc. can play and the more experience in the playoffs can only be good down the road.

That's a good point. If a younger player like Fritsche isn't going to get a lot of playing time for the Jackets, then keep him in Syracuse so that he gets that playing time as well as some playoff experience. Severson can adequately perform on the fourth line for the balance of the season compared to what either Goertzen or Fritsche would be able to contribute. That's what this trade accomplishes IMO, along with getting Hulse off the books.

to bad we couldnt swing leopold our way. The only thing we would have to offer for him would be Vyborny, and thats no good. Oh well.

I was happy when he was going to Montreal for nothing. So something for Syracuse in return is even better.

Now let's deal Prusek for Crosby, Shelley for Ovechkin and we're set!

I am more than happy to have Hulse's contract off the books. Good deal IMO. Now i am still curious about how the whole Prusek thing will turn out.

PNB & Foley, nice job. I was looking for a reason to be happy rather than ambivalent about ths trade. My intial reaction was that I'd have rather had a sixth-rounder than another depth forward. But this theory seems incredibly sound to me.

It wasn't like he was getting any minutes with us. The guy's been a healthy scratch for the most part for the last month or so.

Truly.

BTW- do you EVER not post with a condescending tone? (meh- don't bother responding-I can guess the answer.)

I'm just surprised you didn't prelude it with your 'hate to rain on your parade, guys' line. LOL.

Anyway- I like the trade.

I am thinking that in the short term he is a fourth line guy for the CBJ, and next year he is Sarno's replacement in Syracuse.

Hartigan-Platt-Motzko
Picard-Severson-Lindstrom
Mauldin-Dupuis-Goertzen
Verot-Murray-Kolarik
Sugden

Which of the guys I listed above is a FA this year?

I'm really disappointed Hulse wasn't traded for food. He had the best chance of returning a haul of meat for the CBJ. Maybe we could've gotten some sea bass. Anyone see Manny cooking on the news last night?

Some comments about the trade from the Dispatch:

"Iím excited," Severson said. "Big-time excited. Iím . . . in the final year of my contract. This is the opportunity Iíve wanted all season, and Iím not going to let it pass me by. Iím going to make the most out of it."

The plan for Thursday is to start Severson, 6 feet 1, 225 pounds, at right wing on a line with left winger Jody Shelley (6-4, 225) and center Mike Rupp (6-5, 230).

"That definitely sounds like the line I want to be on," Severson said. "Iím an energy guy. I like to be as physical as possible."

Now Caleís got a chance to play in the playoffs," MacLean said. "And heís got a chance to play for a contract next season."

The move also lowers the Blue Jacketsí payroll a tad with six weeks left in the season. Hulse made $1.1 million this season on a one-way contract, meaning the Jackets had to pay that amount even if he went to the minors.

Severson has a two-way contact that pays him $300,000 in the NHL and $75,000 in the minors."

Not bad, overall. I think this is an upgrade. Nice physical edge, as well.
