#NYR took team photo this morning and Derek Stepan was present; just not on ice now for practice

Scott is practicing on his line so thats a good sign. If it was serious someone else would be in that 2nd line spot

Nothing is official yet (a point that must be emphasized), but early indications are that Orpik won't get fine or suspension for Stepan hit

I think it is precaution. I'd sit him on Saturday as well.

It did happen. I actually like the snarl from Letang, but I love Letang, so I'd compliment him on any play.
Was it definitely after Letang's breakaway chance? I can't find it he Pens feed.

What did anything I say have to do with Gaborik backchecking?

edit: Found it. Apologies didn't realise you meant the same shift as the breakaway chance. It looked more like a violent hook than a spear to me and I think he was peeved as Gaborik came awfully close to boarding him. Worthy of a penalty but not much more.

He should get at least a game and in being civil about this whole ordeal.

Precedence was set on the McQuaid hit, which was very similar.

Repeat offender. Should be 5 games at the least.

Not sure, but it definitely happened. I missed most of the game last night ans hardly paid any attention but I specifically remember that play.

Oh, and I think the adambanks guy was just joking around.

What a joke of a league. Unbelievable how they get away with everything.

Shanny played against many members of this Pittsburgh team as a Ranger. He was on the ice when Malkin slewfooted Mara in Game 4 of the playoffs. I'm sure he is very much aware that Pittsburgh is a dirty team. I have to wonder if there is some sort of directive from above that tells him to let Pittsburgh off the hook when it comes to these things.

To be fair if they decided to suspend Orpik I'm not sure how much him being a 'repeat' offender would play into it as his last (and only) incident was 6 years ago.

Oh please. An open-ice hit in which a player buried his right shoulder into the upper right portion of the puck carrier's chest? That's ridiculous. If I were Mike Milbury, I'd be tempted to suggest someone take off his skirt for complaining about that hit. But I'm not, so I won't.

As for why I'm here, I hope Stepan is well.

Torts may be waiting to see whether the league suspends Orpik--but probably also as well they want to be sure about Stepan's knee.

I don't like the Pens. I never really have. Thought Lemieux was the biggest whiner in the league during his time. Crosby's kind of inherited that--but that being said I don't consider Sid to be a dirty player. He certainly hacks and whacks a lot and he's always complaining--even so--that's something other players do too--maybe not so much and maybe without the league's tacit approval because Sid is the face of NHL marketing.

Malkin however to me is a dirty player. He is a slew foot artist. Cooke is a dirty player--though this year he's cleaned up his act. Orpik has been more along the border of things. The hit on Stepan was a bad hit and deserves a suspension and I think 5 + would be fair. Knee on knees often are reaction hits and the offending player more often than not has done it before he realizes exactly what he's done. OTOH though they can end someone's season--they can end a career. Players that make hits like these again and again are dangerous and need to be weeded out of the league. I don't know if Orpik has a bunch of these or not but the Penguins team seems to be doing a lot of these lately and the league needs to send a message to them and that message should read--Sucks to be you.

Anyway like others I prefer the Flyers to knock them out early in the playoffs. Not just because I think the Pens are the most dangerous team in the East but because I think the Flyers organization like the Rangers have always strived to put the best team possible on the ice year after year. They don't ever settle for a less than mediocre product--even if the results don't bear out. Bruins and Devils the same. None of these teams have ever tanked season after season. I don't even think the Islanders organization sees it as a good tactic to rebuild their team.

I still do not understand why the league takes into consideration whether a player does or does not get hurt in regards to suspension length, or even at all.

Shanny always says something like "however, there was no injury on the play"

Yeah, you ****ing idiot, they are lucky they weren't injured, its not whether they got injured or not, its the INTENT.

NHL is a joke.

I can't belive Pens fans are trying to defend Orpik saying that he picked his track and Stepan ran into him. Just amazing.

Simple: the league turns the cheek to the darling team.

The ironic thing is, lets say nothing does happen to Orpik, I still think Torts gets fined. He may not of criticized the officials, but he did criticize the official's boss when he said, " I am curious to see how the league will handle this" sarcastically.

you dont think having the likely vezina winner in net matters versus having a mediocre backup goalie? really?

The game was essentially over, what are you kidding, you don't think he went out of his way to hurt him, plus he picks on a skilled midget, gutless wonder, but it was a clean hit but unnecessary...
