Getting some secondary scoring would take some weight off his shoulders, but still...your franchise player can't go the equivalent of 2 1/2 months without scoring.
Even when he isn't scoring, he is constantly producing scoring chances out there. There are games where he registers 0 points yet dominates out on the ice.

I want him to do it just so I can start a thread on the main board about how he is a PPG franchise centerman. Also he is ninth in the league in points!

He's actually tied for 6th.

It's crazy what he's been able to accomplish so far in his career and with the state of the franchise. 200+ career points as a 21 year old in the NHL.

With little to play for, I think all the guys are going to do everything they can to try and get it to him on Saturday.

no kidding. Put some talent around this guy, with that vision & passing - the sky's the limit.

Okposo could have had 4-5 goals with any luck.

Well, he's signed until he's 27. So I'm not sure what you're trying to say here.

when drafted I wasnt aware of his playmaking ability -figured he was strictly a sniper who fed off loose pucks / passes from linemates from the hash marks in.

he's really smart with the give and go short passes / quick feeds from behind the net

I think he really takes pride in his playmaking ability. When someone scores off of one of his great passes, he seems as excited as when he scores a goal. Though next year it wouldn't shock me if he scores 40 goals. I do love seeing he has 50 assists though, been a LONG time since an Islander has done that.

I think he's evolved his game as a passer/playmaker moreso the sniper we (as well as him I'm sure) all thought he would be when he was drafted. It could be due to circumstances of the chemistry of his line and linemates but I see as the more experience he gets and the older he gets he will be putting alot more pucks in the back of the net along with the assists. Just watching some of his goals he scores you just know with that type of skill that there is so much more goal scoring to come season to season.

With that said he really has tremendous vision and for all the slights Matt Moulson gets around here, is really is the perfect ideal linemate to compliment Tavares just b/c of his ability to always be around the front of the net where Tavares can get him the puck. 50 assists and 80+ points in his 3rd year is damn impressive knowing that his goals are going to go up eventually. Sky is the limit.

John has always been the premier finisher/goal scorer at every level he has played. That is how he views himself, and has said so many times. the passing is gravy. What John has to process is that his superb vision, hands, and instincts were what allowed him to be the premier goal scorer in the past at lesser levels, but that he can not compensate in the NHL and overcome his shot deficiency. He has averaged 30 goals over the past 2 years which isn't chicken feed, but his expectations are much higher.
JT will work on that shot over the summer and return with a laser shot in the fall. Crosby did the very same thing, went from a 35 goal scorer to winning the Richard with 51. An improved release, his vision, IQ, instincts, and hands, better strength and speed, and we will see 40+ next season, possibly 50. A big board working RW will almost assure it.

Hopefully we won't be hearing 10 years from now how he only put up a PPG season because he was on a bad team.

I say next year Tavares

42-48-90

He works on his shot this summer and comes back sniping and scoring on a more consistant basis.

Also I think he will have more PP goals next year...

Hes a Playmaker first but I believe he wil finally look to finish next year rather than find the perfect pass(which he does awsome)...

Im very excited to see what JT does next year....

Agreed. I think he will be in the mid-low 90s next season. This kid is only starting to come close to his peak. There is not a doubt in my mind he will battle for the art ross either next year or the year after next. The kid isn't even close to his peak output. Him, crosby, stamkos and malkin will be the best players in the game

Well, I hope he works on his backchecking, didn't pick up Ladd and gave Byfuglien that sweet pass last night without the quick urgency to get back.

Tavares isn't bad defensively but I won't pretend he's good. JMO anyway.

I really hope he works on his shot in the offseason, with a deadlier shot he could really light up the league. It isn't weak, it's just not up there with other top players.

That "pass" to Byufglein was perfect, only he was scammed by Big Buff who called for the puck like he was an Isle trailer. It happens. He backchecks fine on most occasions when needed. Always could be better with greater determination.

I agree with you on the shot, it is good, not great (marginally talented lol). Sid improved his shot and tied for the Richard. JT will be a 40+ goal scorer next year, will have several 50 goal seasons starting as soon as 2014.

The amount that he's improved in ALL facets of the game in just 3 years is mind blowing. There's NOTHING he's not much better at today than he was when he first came in...and that's a testament to just how hard he works on his game...

JT has the unique combination of not only pure, off the charts God given ability but also the desire to be great...anytime you combine those two things, you have a magical player and that's exactly what he is...

I watch all 81 games this season and I believe that was the first time I have ever seen Tavares make a mistake all year...

And I have to disagree with you. Tavares is very good defensively. Hes always on the puck carrier in the defensive zone and is very slick with his stick checking..

I have no doubt that Tavares will once again improve his game over the summer. He is that 'kind of player', like Crosby.

I don't think you believed yourself when you typed that. You really think that the defensive breakdown last night was his first of the year?

In fact, Tavares is usually one of the last guys back on the backcheck.

i don't argue he has had some defensive breakdowns/giveaways, lately even more so.. but i think he has done a real good job on the back check and picked many a pocket...moulson's job is often to hang at center ice or blue line.. I will admit jt does sometimes get caught behind play but that is not a hustle issue.. he is often carrying the puck in the offensive zone and gets knocked down or caught behind net when the puck is turned over after he has created and passed off.. in those cases it is understandable he is not first one back.
