Supported him all year and like the edge he brings to our blueline, considering our trees in ROB and Hejda are SOFT AS BUTTER, but tonight was unbelievably bad.
I still like him as a 6th guy, but giving him more minutes than that is too much of a risk for my liking.
I don't get the "ROB is soft" trope. He's not Pronger but he has more hits and blocked shots than any other d-man. He's better 5on5 than any other dman besides Wilson and is by far the best PK defender.
I agree with him, but he's taking it way to far. We practically just ended our rebuild and he thinks we're Stanley Cup contenders. Though I do agree that next season I want playoffs.

I don't think he's necessarily expecting Stanley Cup contention next season, but he, like the rest of us, is tired of these guys saying they didn't get the bounces, they're injured, blah blah blah.
Did injuries play a part? Sure they did. Of course they did. It's obvious to anyone who watched that Duchene and Downie were nowhere near 100%. But to lose to the worst team in the league, the worst goalie in the league, and to fail to score when it mattered most on the worst penalty kill in the league...no, I'm no buying that excuse next year. This team needs to quit having such poor showings on home ice (this stretches back to the Sakic/Tanguay days) and turning in just outright horrible efforts after a long layoff.
I'm willing to give management and coaching a bit of a respite this season since it looks like they made the right moves to make this team better. So now that they've done so, we have a right to expect more. This team should not be crawling toward a playoff spot next year, certainly not in a division as weak as this. I will not accept the shoddy divisional record under any circumstances. I will not accept piss-poor showings against bad teams like the Columbus Blue Jackets. And I will ABSOLUTELY not accept another season sweep by the Vancouver ****ing Canucks. I'm not expecting Stanley Cup next year, but I want a big step toward contention made next year. As fans we have a right to demand that after years of mediocre-to-bad teams.
Problem is and I blame Sacco/Deadmarsh for it a bit and it seems we shoot the puck way too much and majority of those shots are absolutely easy to stop. But we can be like Buffalo who passes way too much and loses golden opportunities. What I want Sacco and Co. to do next season is to try and balance it out, because we're making effin Mason look like Roy. Ultimately it comes down to the players to make those decisions because too many times this season we've given effin Corey Schneider and Steven Mason shutouts for valuable points.
I was coming here to post the opposite of this. Dater is a an over-emotional ********. Yes, we definitely could have made the playoffs this year. Saying we should have is just homerism. All of the teams that made the playoffs instead of us either have more talent or are better coached. Even suggesting that this team may need to be "blown up" in the near future is idiocy. Yes, they make too many excuses after losses and its the same spiel every time, but for ****'s sake, this guy needs to go for a jog or something before he sits down and just starts spewing whatever crosses his mind.
I think 99% of the posters here would agree that we have a great core and a great future. Hopefully playoffs next year, and then trying to make a push a year or two after that. Expecting anything more is optimism at best.
Honestly though, some of the unfiltered BS that he lets hit an open forum is just ridiculous. It's posts like that one that make me want to never visit the DP again.
How is it surprising to Dater that the avs ''blew it'' down the stretch? Its a young team with close to no playoff experience. S**t happens. I was frustrated with the outcome of course, but cmon, it came to no surprise. Dater takes it way out of proportion.
Nay, he sucks. Other players are making mistakes, too, but not in such a constant way (and often at crucial times) as he does. I think, he started the season in an okay way but this looks like a distant memory now. It's a pity because he's such a likeable guy and because he has had some great moments in an Avs sweater.
I hope and absolutely expect Gaunce will replace him.
Signing Suter would be awesome obviously but I think we have the right players in our system (including Elliott and Barrie although they are on the roster already) to fix this defense although this will take time. Signing a scorer is a bigger need imo.
I was just joking you should check my post history and you will realize just how much I hate O'Brien.
Seriously?? No way. I Google'd it! Buuu... buu... Google is NEVER wrong! EDIT: What the heck, I did the image search again and this time around JVR popped up. So freaking weird! When I did it earlier the shot brought up other O'Brien images.

Well, to be fair, it's a blog. It's just his opinion, and my opinion doesn't stray far from his on this one. I think the gist was that he's expecting bigger and better things next year, and that's fair. We all want to see some significant progression next season.
I agree though that "blowing it up" is about the most overused phrase in sports and patently absurd for a team still in the midst of a rebuild.

Yeah, I found it with a google search of O'Brien's name. It also comes up for JVR though.
