So with Colorado eliminated does the playoff factor have any bearing whatsoever on the Calder race?
Matt Read eh. He's old. He wouldn't be the oldest, but gimme a break.
Last year Skinner got it with the Canes, and they were a non playoff team.
Forgot who else were the nominees last year.
If it's gotta be the Nuge or the Kog I'm going with the Kog.
Henrique is the only likely ROY candidate to a) make the playoffs and b) play in a division with 3 other 100pt clubs. For the majority of the games against NYR, PHI, and PIT, he was on the FIRST line...and the 2nd PK...and the 2nd PP.
You know how many times he caused the Devils to be shorthanded during all of that?
Once.

Just gotta be someone on this board unhappy about a 28-7-2 record.
What record is that? I think we've lost more than that since the all-star break.

I would argue that Parise-Henrique is actually our first PK unit. Even more impressive. I don't think he has a positive goal differential on the PK any more, but it's probably still pretty close to even.
There is literally 0 reason to dress 7 defenseman, aside from complete indecisiveness.
The d-man isn't going to do any better than Zharkov or Tedenby in that spot, and more than likely someone is gonna get double shifted over them anyway. We have no PP specialist that needs 5v5 protection, so dressing 7 d-men would serve no purpose at all.
I really don't get why Zharkov isn't being called up. He's a reliable 4th liner who isn't going to make a game altering mistake. When our 12th forward is a toss up between Stephen Gionta, Eric Boulton, and Cam Janssen, all you can do is pick the one that's going to cost you a game, and that is mostly Zharkov.
If they were to dress Zharkov then I wouldn't even want any of this 7D nonsense, but they aren't and I don't want to see any of the other scrubs out there in his place.

lol, who's unhappy? Just pointing out it's an arbitrary stat based on the calendar that's usually around 4-5 games a year and also separating regular season and playoffs. It's like me saying we have a great record on Thursday home games played before Easter.
Finishing 9-0 in 2006 or winning the goofy last game against the Sabres a couple years back have nothing to do with this year's team.
I think Henrique should be ROY, but I doubt he'll get it.
They'll either myopically go with the point leader, or simply go with the Canadian candidate.
I don't think RNH will get it. He's missed too many games, and literally half his points have been spoonfed to him on the PP. Landeskog will probably get it.
I wouldn't be so quick to put him back in the lineup, Harrold has been impressive and I would give him the start in the playoffs, but if he struggles I would insert Larsson back in.
Harrold looked great outside 1 silly mistake early in his own zone reversing the puck too many times and getting checked into the boards creating the turnover.
Larsson has more mistakes on average per game from what I've seen. I agree with you - Harrold until he starts messing up then back to Larsson.
I just finished watching the game after recording it to go play trivia (and win first place overall - wooohoooo shots!) and the only real complaint I have is the league is regressing to letting everything go. Interference, holding, hooking is taking place all over the place and nothing is getting called unless it's a blatant stick hold or results in a trip. I'm not going to like the playoffs if games are decided on non-called penalties.
Sorta depressing really to see it creep back into the game.
I'd roll 7 defencemen and play them both. Harrold is capable as a fourth line forward.
I feel like this is what they will do, but roll a 4th line how they did in the 3rd last night, double shifting vets in. It is just beyond obvious at this point that Pete and Lou don't think anyone in Albany will do any better then Boulton. Everyone here can agree, or disagree but that is what they see and think just need the big boys to be big and hope we get deep enough that we can talk about Yayo coming back.
I think you have to play Larrson on Saturday just to see something but dress 7. Clear Harrold brings something to the team, but we know Larsson has the ability to bring a lot too. Give the kid a chance, but keep his leash short.
Still irks me to this day that somebody gave Josh Harding a vote. That person ought to be made to explain why he thought Harding had a better rookie season than one of Malkin, Staal, Stastny, Kopitar, or Penner (29 goals that year). Harding boasted some great numbers in the NHL that year. 1.16 GAA, .960 save percentage......in a whopping seven appearances and only four starts. By my count, he was still eligible for the Calder the following year.
I think I've accepted the fact that journalists are lazy and like to save a couple votes to fanboy their own teams.

That person should explain to you why he voted for Harding in replacement of ONE of those.
It was a 5th place vote, but still yeah somewhat strange.
