I get the impression many Penguins fans feel Martin is over paid?

If this is the case what would Pens fans think about a Cammalleri/Martin swap?

The Pens add only a million in salary and they get a scoring winger that can play either win to play alongside Sid.

The Flames add a top 4 defenseman that can eat some minutes and push Butler down to the #4 role where he belongs.

If the Penguins can't or don't want to add a million to their cap the deal could be expanded to even out or send salary the Flames way.

I'm not sure they could fit Cammalleri in long term as they need to re-sign Sid and Staal.

I don't think Cammalleri would hurt them in that sense since Martin is signed 2 years longer than Cammalleri. I think this deal while costing an extra million in year 1 of Sid and Staal's new deals it would help make their new deals easier to afford starting in year 2.

It's possible but I think they'd probably be looking to drop some salary if they trade Martin. I also think that Calgary might be on Martin's NTC list but it's impossible to tell.

they may be because of Sutter (I think he played under him in NJ?) but Sutter is likely gone this summer and there will be new blood behind the bench.

If the Pens are looking to shed salary I think something could be worked out with Calgary in that respect too, cap space won't be an issue for us next season, I am just unsure who you would consider for a salary dump and how much you would want for them as I don't think any have "negative value"

I likely wouldn't do it either. Not because I don't like Camm, but because of the cap hit. I'd rather look at bringing in a 2.5-4m winger than a 6m winger. A 2.5-4m player is much easier to move than a 6m winger - unless he's producing. And if he is producing, is it because of his center?

Looking over the rest of the Flames lineup for someone who's under contract past this season... there isn't anyone that really interests me. Tanguay has too much term for someone who hasn't produced outside of Calgary and Glenncross has a NMC and has indicated he wants to stay in Calgary, and that he signed for less to stay there.

where did the bolded myth come come? he produced in Colorado, Calgary and Montreal. The only place Tanguay never produced was Tampa Bay.

Sorry, wasn't thinking of Colorado. Montreal was so so. Put up some points, but I heard nothing but *****ing from the Habs fans.

the complaining from Habs fans came towards the playoffs when he was out with an injured shoulder (I believe it was the 2nd injury to that shoulder in 6 months) and they thought he should have been playing through the injury. Prior to the shoulder injuries he was phenomenal.

Not all "contenders" have an equal shot at the Cup. I'm pretty sure that ZP knows that a team with the top three lines of:

Kunitz - Malkin - Neal
Parise - Crosby - UFA/Trade
Cooke - Staal - Dupuis

would be the top contender for the Cup by far. ZP can sign a 5 year 6.5M deal with the Pens, win a Cup or two then take as much money as he wants when he's 33.

I like David Jones as a pick up. If I remember right he has had a few injury problems, but that means we could possibly sign him on a low ball-ish contract for 1-2 years. Good upside at a low risk.

Kunitz - Malkin - Neal
Dupuis - Crosby - Jones

I like it. If we could get someone else to bump Dupuis down to the 3rd line even better. But if not he plays well with Sid. Not sure how I feel about bringing Sully back as some people have penciled him in, he later season was much better than the rest but I see after this post season especially if the team goes deep that his tank will be empty and his legs will be gone.

Also I like Chris Kelly if we could squeeze him in for Staal. If Dupuis will be playing on Sids line. Lets replace TK on Staals line with someone more productive...

Kunitz - Malkin - Neal
Dupuis - Crosby - Jones
Cooke - Staal - Kelly

I really like that top 6. Three solid threats to roll with wave after wave.
