The Business of HockeyDiscuss the financial and business aspects of the NHL. Franchise sales, valuations, TV contracts, ratings, expansion, relocation, the CBA and work stoppage discussion goes here.
If the standings stay as they are today, the Coyotes will be facing the Canucks come next week. Something tells me, relocation will be a constant reminder from everyone at the CBC (who will likely cover the series) and the rest of the Canadian media. Should be fun!
Unless of course your a Coyotes fan.
The fun would come from beating the snot out of the Canucks.
Excellent find!! However, Jan Brewer was able to sell the State Capital buildings without having to go through such as you pointed out so maybe there are some ways around this for the sale of Jobing.com Arena?
Definitely could, as nothing is impossible... particularly if it makes sense to those in power.

I wonder if the Jobing.com arena would be overrun with Canucks fans like in the regular season, or if more and more Coyote fans will show up given it's the playoffs?

That would be so cool and broadcast coast to coast
Glendale is backwards, they still require the WMP codec, I can't imagine that anyone else does.
They can't pay their police, they're now in a position to find $5 million they don't have for the NHL & they've still got no idea how much it's going to cost to run their white elephant arena. Of course their IT is backwards. The council meeting's video is probably hosted on an old 486 running headless in Scrugg's basement

Sadly I don't think there are enough Yotes fans left in Arizona and (with all due respect to the fans still with us, who deserve a lot of credit) we all know it's never been a team that's captured the city's imagination. The D-Backs Opening Day is happening as I type this, which will capture more of the sports pages in Arizona - the Suns playoff chase is touch & go - so I don't see the Yotes finishing 8th grabbing enough attention in AZ. So yes, I think there's going to be a lot of blue & green (and all the other colours the Canucks have worn!) in the job if it's VAN-PHX.

If Mike Smith continues his strong play in goal, I think the Coyotes could actually give the Canucks are run for their money. Still, I take the Canucks in 6. However, I think St. Louis would be a better opponent for them. Aren't they playing tonight!?
Alright, I seriously have to ponder with the Yotes making a push for that 3rd seed.
IF they were to win the Championship....would that save the team?
I mean, the one reference we have to go on is the 94-95 Devils but I'm not sure how close they were to moving.
The 94-95 Nordiques were the best team in the league during the lockout shortened season, if I remember correctly. If they had won the Cup rather than crashing out to the Rangers, would they have survived in Quebec?

Reason: Just checked: Best team in the East, not the league.
The NHL is going to do what they want to do at this point.
It would put them in an awfully awkward spot, Legend, if the die has been cast for a move to Quebec that the league is merely trying to keep under wraps.
For that very reason, with the Leafs now out I'm a Yotes fan for the duration. Go Yotes!

... sold out the what to whom Hal?. I thought we'd worked out our problems during our last Space Odyssey in 2001 when you recklessly & wontonly took control of the station killing my co-pilot in the process.
And now this. What are you trying to say?. "I dont know what" Hal 9000. But Im frightened....
... and Id appreciate it if youd turn down the volume on that Strauss waltz loop. I can hardly hear myself think.
As a follow up to my long standing skepticism about the sale of the arena, I took a minute to visit to the Arizona Revised Statutes. The idea that the sale of the arena is included in an imminent deal is even more absurd than I realized.
Glendale would have to call a special election and get the voters to approve the sale of the arena.
Note: The city could potentially bypass the election requirement if the Arizona state legislature wrote up a bill, got it passed and signed by the Governor. It seems that a similar bill was passed in the 2009/2010 session allowing the state to complete a sale and leaseback.
Once the special election or legislation exempting the election is passed, the requirements for sale of real property must still be satisfied.
As such, I continue to suggest that any report indicating that the arena is included in a sale of the franchise is patently false.
Are you casting a cloud on what the NHL is saying????

Wasnt it Sunnuks who floated this nonsense or someone else?. No matter. Someones talking through their hat...
Well, we know that CoG doesn't care about rules and regs......

I'm sorry Dave, I was disconnected, what i was saying is that the people in phoenix better sold out the arena and commit for a season ticket next year and we will close this thead. What they dont understand is whithout the support of the community, no one will buy the team....
I'm from quebec city, I lost my team once, I was heartbreaken when they leaved to denver, but never i was bitter to the people in denver, my lost there gain...
I just want you to know that if there's was a another way to get my team back, I gladly take it. But the fact is that you are not enough to support your team... Prove me wrong...
She also asked the council to join her in asking the National Hockey League to release $20 million, which the city placed in escrow as part of a pledge to help the league pay for team and arena losses during the 2011-12 season. Scruggs seeks a payment plan-agreement with the NHL.
None of the council members responded to the mayor's request.
Seems the Mayor didn't get the support she was looking for.
One would think if the NHL is really committed to seeing the team stay in Glendale, they would agree to the payment plan. But on the other hand, if there is in fact no buyer ( and we are just playing out the string ) why would the NHL agree to a payment plan with a city that will have no team.
