We need to go out and beat Columbus. I think losing to the team with the worst record is a bad way to end the season. We're going to end up with either the 4th, 5th, 6th, or7th pick. From everything I've read, Yakupov is a clear #1, after that it's a bit of a tossup.
Not 1 fan or player will remember a loss on the last day of a lotto season. We will remember a useless win if it costs us a top player. The players will forget about the game within two days when they start going on vacation or go home.

The Hockey Gods have been cruel enough to us, maybe we win the lottery this year.
... or not, and we pick 8th or 9th.
Good Game by Grabner,i hope this is that what we all need to see next year from him!But 19 Goals not are SOOO bad!
It's a stat sheet illusion that is not indicative of his play. Padding stats towards the end does not make for a good season. He has a lot of learning to do. Ditto for Okposo.

I have heard it said time and time again, in every sport, it's helps to go out with winning ways. It sets the ground work for the following season and builds a little confidence.
Speaking of the fans, if the Islanders lose to Columbus, just wait to you read the posts.

I think with Okposo it's about chemistry. He's not good enough to carry a line, but with the right linemates, he's going to score. Josh Bailey is a perfect fit for him.
I think Bailey is a better all around player then Okposo, but he's been stuck with awful linemates most of the season. I think his play deteriorated out of frustration early on. He looks like a completely different player alongside Okposo and Nielsen.

I have to agree. Anyone here still glad we won that shootout against NYR that cost us Alex Pietrangelo?

Me, I like beating the Rangers.
Just think, if the Islanders had won a few more games in 2005-2006 and they missed out on Okposo because they had a later draft pick, they might have been stuck picking Claude Giroux.
Given that the Islanders still don't have the talent level to make the playoffs, you're probably one of the few Islander fans that's pleased with the Islanders season this year. I personally think it's a disappointment. If they had won a handful of more games, they might have made the playoffs.
Who wants that?

When did I ever say I was pleased with the Islanders' season? I drank the offseason koolaid and thought we had a shot at the playoffs. I am in no way pleased with the Islanders' season. I personally took no joy out of winning the last game of the season when it cost us an impact player that would be our best defenseman right now (assuming we didn't screw him up), and this could very well happen again this year.
For those of you saying "we have to lose," the Islanders aren't making the trip to Columbus to lose a game on purpose.
Tavares, Hamonic, Martin, and the few players who play their heart out every game will not lose on purpose. Thats pathetic and embarrasing.
If they lose they lose, if they win thats alright too. I would like to see them finish with over 80 points.
The Islanders are going to **** up the development of this pick anyway. Might as well try to trade it in a package for a top 4 Dman in my opinion.
Like LAIslanderfan said, you play to win the game.
Jeez, no one is advocating the players tank -- nor would the players listen. Guys playing for jobs next season (with the Isles or elsewhere) aren't going to go out and purposely stink up the joint.
That said, management and the coaching staff could finally intervene in a good way for a change. Rest a player with a minor injury that he might normally be able to play through. Move a guy like Nino up to the top line to see what he can do. Give Streit less minutes per night so as to cut down on the wear and tear. Mix-up the PP combos, gives some other guys a look. Stuff like that.
Could be unfair to the team they're are playing that night, but that's not my problem. If the NHL is seriously concerned about it, they can stop incentivising losing. Drop all the non-playoff teams into a non-weighted lottery or reward the team that just misses out on the playoffs.
Not holding my breath as this is the league that can't logically award points on a regular season game or decide if SO wins should 'really' count as a win or just kinda, maybe count as a win.
