I think acquiring Ville Leino from the Sabres in the offseason would be a shrewd move on Murray's part. He's a very crafty, creative player offensively that would fit nicely on a line with two other players who play similar games in Turris and Alfie. His value is at it's lowest, likely wouldn't take much more than nothing to acquire him.

The upside would be a free top 6 forward, the downside? Leino doesn't find his game and we're paying 4.5M a year for a 30-40 point forward.

I think it's worth a shot.

Not trying to sound rude or anything, but did you watch Leino this year? What about the year before that?

Because to be honest, I never thought of him as a 4 million dollar player. He cashed in when the market was desperate, and I don't think he's a top 6 player, or ever has been consistently.

Plus, Del Zotto or McDonough, Dubinsky and a 1st?

You're looking at something like Foligno, Noeson, Cowen, Silfverberg, Stone and a 1st.
The way I see it is if we send any prospects to Columbus would have their development stunted anyways, so they'd essentially be getting nothing while we get Nash.

This would be reckless.

The downside on this deal runs til 2017, that contract was bad the second he signed it.

Leino is not that good, one playoffs be damned.

I wouldn't take that contract if they paid us to. We have a number of young players with at least 2nd line potential progressing through the system. You don't block that with a significantly overpaid veteran.

Sounds like a certain Mike Fisher...

Either way, I'd pass on him... The contract is just too big imo.

What if we get Rundblad back from Phx in Offseason

I know it might look like a weird trade to make. Also poor Rundblad being tossed around like an eastern european Prostitute from team to team.

But since Phx is full of very good defensemen + with a few coming up in the pipe line.
Would it be possible to do a trade similar to this:

15th Overall + 4th rounder

for

Rundblad

Ottawa gets a player that could help come next season instead of waiting 3-4 years for the 15th overall pick to develop. Also Since Gonchar's contract won't be renewed in 2013-2014, We have another puck moving defensemen for very cheap & youthful, not to mention Swedish too

Hmmmmm, I don't think it's crazy, BUT...

It was speculated that during the trade Murray had the choice of giving up Rundblad OR our 1st Round pick, and he thought that the 1st Round Pick was more valuable.

That must say SOMETHING.

I disagree.

It was a hockey move, and he had good friends here. I mean the guy was writing a weekly blog about his time in Ottawa, so he couldn't of hated it.

Since we kinda sucked before trading for Turris. Maybe BM thought we would be in the draft lottery or very close. Which then would of been a bad trade off.

But all things considered, I think we should get our Player back. I almost Bought his jersey the day before he got traded. I reached for it & my friend smartly noted that i should maybe wait a year before purchasing it lol ... Now i owe him a life saving event !!

Not the kind of player we should be looking to obtain: small, soft, not very good defensively but with high ceiling in terms of offense.

We need stronger, more reliable D moving forward and Rundblad does not address that need which is why he was moved in the first place (that and Turris was available)

I'd rather just draft Olli Maatta.

Hm. For a guy so insistent upon English accuracy, I'll ask you what you think of this quote.

I would rather trade up a couple spots in the draft and take Dumba. The sens defence, including the prospect pool, could really use Dumba or a player like him.

Yeah, I'd rather we just add assets and TRY to move up. I really wasn't much of a fan of Rundblad or even his future.

That awkward moment when a team reacquires you after they gave up on you and traded you after only 3 months.

By small you mean...plays small? Because stature-wise...he's what, 6'2-6'3 and young and just starting to fill out.

Ceci > Rundblad.

If they can swing a deal to get in that top 10, it'd be worth it. I'd even do Puempel + 1st to get Ceci into a Sens uni. He'll be in the NHL very soon.
