If(big If) the flyers sign a big names free agent d-man, Mez will be outta here. Sad to say, I like the guy, but he will be expendable.

Suter-Coburn
Grossmann-Kimmo
Bourdon-Pronger
LOL how great it would be... Oh and F the salary cap. Homer doesnt play by it anyway

Damn probably wouldn't work with our free agents unless Jagr takes less or doesn't resign

Just got in and saw this signing! Very happy with the years and term for a very solid d man.....Grossmann could have gotten more on the open market for sure .....

This is one of the great things about the Flyers franchise.....we have no problem attracting solid free agents for good deals....players love to play for us.....it keeps us solid year in and year out!!

how many of those 40 points are tied into Hartnell/Giroux/Jagr.
I dont want him back. Extending Grossman is a clear sign that the Flyers more then likely wont be bringing back Carle.
For the record, I dont hate Carle
Not with a rookie, but with a strong defensive partner sure. He's been in tough defensive situations like that before. He also had 40 points early in his career, 40 points last year, and 35 points the year before.

He's been exposed a lot because he's been asked to carry pairings with rookies, or to play a more stay at home role in the pairing, which he isn't meant for. He'd probably do well with a guy like Grossmann.

You're right that he's prone to boneheaded decisions with the puck, and that is why he isn't worth what someone is going to pay him. I don't think we really have anyone that can replace him next year. Maybe Gus could down the line, but most likely not next year. However, I don't want to see him back at $5m. I'd rather spend that money elsewhere, like on a raise to Voracek.

Go figure.. yet the organization's treatment of Carter and Richards was supposedly going to cause the entire NHLPA to boycott the Flyers.

I've never watched a miracle happening with my own eyes, but one can dream and hope at least until the offseason is over...

What fantastic news to start the day. Grossman could of been looking at 4.5+ on the market. There are very, very few decent defenseman on the market at the moment, and everyone is looking for one.

Everyone still talking about Suter face the facts with the new CBA and the cap going up but might go down with the new CBA we might not have the cap space for Suter.

Nashville holds all the cards for Suter and Weber so the team needs to plan without them.

Cap space is going to be tight but you are assuming no trades, no ltir, and no buyouts. Suter is going to get around 7 mil a year, although I think the Flyers could get it around 6.5 for a long time. Pronger's hit is about 5, so they only need a couple million more. If the cap does go down after the new cba, it would not be lower than just over 60 mil, since that would be the 50/50 split in revenues the owners want. So about 4 mil less so JVR could be moved, Mez could be moved, and or Briere could be bought out. If Suter is willing to sign and the organization wants him, he will be a Flyer before July 1st and probably before the draft in my opinion. After that, it will be the Flyers normal cap dodging summer.

How?

I understand about Weber, but Suter will be an UFA.

They have leverage on Weber's rights but nothing on Suter. He can walk.

No that will not happen because your d lineup is very short term. Pronger will not return and even if he does, he wont last long, and Timo will not be that effective for long either. Think age.

Grossman is the replacement for Pronger, stylistically, although you never replace Pronger.

Note that Grossman will make what Carle does now, and I would not be surprised to see Carle resigned too. There are lots of ways to do it. Carle wants to stay, so he could settle for one year at $5M (Pronger's actual salary) and then go for a longer deal after Kimmo's gone next year. It doesn't seem we'll keep Kubina, but he might be an option if they decide to trade Meszaros and sign Carle.

Timonen-Meszaros
Grossmann-Coburn
Carle-Bourdon
Lilja-Gustafsson

We'll see.
If Carle signs here for even one year at $5mill, I will completely rage.

I don't really like the price...one of years or money should have been better....either 2/7 or 4/12.

Fair deal, and fair deals manage to look like steals in this bloated contract time.

I agree. Not a steal, but fair money to convince Grossmann from testing the market, and rewards what he has done since arriving from Dallas. Hopefully, he will play with the same intensity and physicality now that he'll be here awhile.

What would you consider a steal? I think he could of gotten 4-4.5 on open market.

4-4.5 is definitely high for me. Unless the FA market is completely dead and really drives his value up, this is right on par with comparables.

True, but do not want.

I would rather Mez than Kubina. Kubina simply isn't very good. I am not saying he's horrible, just not good enough and not for 3.85 million. He's also slow and the Flyers aren't using him on the power play in the way expected. We have enough dinosaurs on defense to meltdown and gas up the Flyers bus.

After the 15th of this month, any new contract for Kubina is a 35+ contract, which sucks.

Grossmann's contract is fantastic. 3 million was the ballpark and they only paid a bit more than that to keep him from testing the FA waters.

I'd rather Kubina's spot be taken up by MAB, Gus, Manning. Cheap, young, fast, and low minutes.

Grossmann is almost what I wish Mez was. At 4 million he's a little too inconsistently physical, not superb with the puck, sometimes looks awkward defending. Grossmann sticks with his man and almost always plants him into the boards and keeps him there. Mez prefers to skate. If Mez could get moved and free up that 4 million and let Carle walk. That's 7+ million to throw at Suter. A real risk to take.

I think this might mean Pronger is done. He's probably waiting for the offseason to retire.

Very good cap hit. He has been very steady since he arrived.

I would pass on Kubina.

Suter is a long shot, but one thing we know is that if Homer wants him, he will be as aggressive as possible to get him. That means picks or maybe even our first rounder. Homer traded a first for Timonen and Hartnell's rights. It would not surprise me at all if goes for it hard.
