Watching this video makes me almost feel how fired up Sid is to prove a point. Why the hell are coaches trying to fire these guys up? Have they not learned that lesson before? Do not piss off stars who are willing to explode.
ESPECIALLY the Flyers, who time and again piss him off and elevate his game. His GAA is amazing against them, his highest against any team in hockey. Honestly, I sometimes think that organization is dumb or has a death wish when it comes to Crosby.

I honestly think in Torts' case there was method to his madness. He is coaching a team that is the best in the East, possibly in the league, but against the Penguins they've had their issues and he might be a little concerned about his team's confidence level going into a possible future playoff matchup.
Enter the Orpik incident. Torts called him out for sure, but to leave it at that would've been a bad move, because if he makes Orpik the Villain here, players on his team might be enticed to stray out of the system to run around trying to target Orpik to exact some kind of revenge. Instead, he used the opportunity to make the entire organization the bad guys, and turn it into an "US AGAINST THE GOLDEN BOYS WHO THINK THEY SHOULD GET SPECIAL TREATMENT" kind of rallying cry.
Obviously, there's something to be said about not poking the bear, but this isn't a situation like Philly ... the Rangers are already getting mauled by the bear in a sense, they dropped 4 out of 6 to the Pens this year and haven't been successful against them in quite a while. Labialette i agree was really stupid in his actions, but i think what Torts did here was actually pretty smart.
I'm sorry, but I beg to differ. We're talking about a guy who is a known hothead and once got into a water bottle squirting altercation with a Washington Capitals fan. There was no strategy involved in the planning of his rant and if anything it will be detrimental to him because it makes him look like a man-child crying about everything he can possibly cry about in two minutes.
We would officially no longer have friends on here if Parise signed. The hate would boil over from the thorough ***kicking teams would get from our lineup

Disco's right. Its part of his coaching style. Torts is a pretty good coach but a master cheerleader. This is how he rally's his troops.
I live in NJ. I know that everyone see's his rants every now and then but if you have MSG the guy brings crying and eyerolling to a new level. Its there every game. John "Excuses" Tortorella is nothing more than walking *****fest. Thats why he doesn't last. His act gets old after a while and people catch on. The funny thing is that he's gotten better.
Officially jumping on the Pens bandwagon. Can't wait to watch this series.
Welcome aboard, Falcons93! Here's your complimentary poncho...expect a lot of tomatoes to be thrown your way.

McLarge I just noticed your avatar text. You need to make it white so it shows up. Decrease the ole font line spacing there too and you'll be all set. Covering Ron's chin is a crime.

Wednesday will speed along about as fast as a day at the dentist's office. I do volunteer work that day and the whole time I'm going to be thinking about the game. I know what you're thinking... I'm probably going to hell.

Is it officially set for Wednesday? I haven't seen a schedule
I just do not see it with the Flyers in this series. Almost every factor favors the Pens. The Flyers are more injured. Grossman may be back, but Briere is less likely. Some key guys will definately be out the entire series, JVR, Meszaros, others. Fleury > Bryz. Offensively we score more, PPs the same, better PK, and even the games the Pens lost, the Pens seemed to let up and blow them after taking control. And most of all, both teams have great depth, and can roll out several talented lines, but usually the stars are the difference makers, and Malkin-Crosby obviously trumps Giroux pretty big, both individually and in quantity. The Pens have almost an entire team that has been there before. The Flyers are a rookie mistake.
Can the Pens lose? Yes, but in my opinion it would be just that. The Pens losing, as on paper they should win this series in five.
I also think that then teams are mischaracterized by most. Neither team is particularly gritty, though there is some. Rinaldo for instance is a walking talking PP opportunity every time he steps on the ice rather than adding anything. Glad he plays for them. The teams are certainly not as gritty as past years, and both are much more skilled. Both have some defensive questions that are the potential achilles heal.

I see our power play and our d zone as the two reasons we can lose. Our power play because of the lack of defensive responsibility. Our d zone for watching the play and losing assignments. If we can sure those two facets up, we look damn good. If we piss away an important short handed goal or play loose in our end - lights out.
We have to be aggressive and work the power play from the weak side in my opinions. I am begging bylsma for that.

The thing is, defense is their achilles heal as well. In many ways these teams are mirrors of one another. I say what I did above because I just see the Flyers as lesser versions in almost every area, like I set out above. Does that mean we are guarenteed a trip to round two or an easy time of it? No way. But it is worth noting the above.
