I haven't personally seen any of the players in action, but from what I read, Cousins is the only player on the list who should be a regular NHLer some day.

I have heard Placek is a great pick considering we picked him in the 6th(?) round. Dont know what that means NHL wise

If I recall, he's extremely raw in his talent, but athletic and very big. Unfortunately he either didn't have a very good freshman year at Harvard, was hurt, or not used a lot.

The bolded players I see having a shot someday with the team. Ranford is probably the best out of all them followed by Cousins, then Noebels, then Placek. Other than that you will be lucky to see anyone make it up to the NHL.

By the way, I believe Chaput was traded to Columbus for Sestito.

2009 3 81 Adam Morrison G - rights gone, signed with Boston IIRC
2009 3 87 Simon Bertilsson D- rights gone, injury prone
2009 5 142 Nicola Riopel G - rights gone
2009 5 153 Dave Labrecque C - rights gone - too small
2009 7 196 Oliver Lauridsen D - a possible NHLer, but needs another year in the AHL. Big, strong kid, might put it together.

2010 3 89 Michael Chaput C - traded to Columbus for Sestito
2010 4 119 Tye McGinn LW - Phantom prospect - big winger whose brother is a not bad player - I'd give him a chance at a low-line role someday, maybe not in Philly.
2010 5 149 Michael Parks RW - still at college, only saw one game- for team USA, a fast smurf RW.
2010 5 179 Nicholas Luukko D - at college, hurt a lot this year.
2010 7 206 Ricard Blidstrand D - needs to be signed, not overwhelming talent, although I've never seen him.
2010 7 209 Brendan Ranford LW - I'd like to see him signed, you can't teach hockey sense like he's got.

2011 3 68 Nick Cousins C - a definite NHL prospect but will need another year of Jr. next year first.
2011 4 116 Colin Suellentrop D - watched him quite a few times. A steady RHS Dman who is steady, tough and with decent skill. Maybe an NHLer after he fills out - he seems to want it.
2011 4 118 Marcel Noebels LW - got good reviews on this board - big strong fast forward with some skill.
2011 6 176 Petr Placek RW - per the other poster, raw rookie at Harvard will take some time to fill out his frame and game.
2011 7 206 Derek Mathers RW - big goon-type who needs work on skating to have a shot, lots of character and desire, could end up in the NHL in a few years.

I've heard good things about Cousins, but I am really pulling for Lauridsen. The guy is a beast size-wise. If he can turn into a bottom pairing defenseman, I'd be psyched.

It's shocking that almost the entire 2009 draft class went bust within 2 years.

I would hardly call a handful of players drafted in rounds 3-7 who haven't made the NHL in 3 years "busts".

It doesn't look so good at first glance but when you take into consideration that our first pick was 3rd round and we still got a NHL players out of that draft it doesn't seem too bad. The Dane isn't a lost cause yet either.

As for the earlier post about Ranford possibly being the best of the group I have to disagree. I smell Pither 2.0 with him. I can't see his skills translating into the pro game but I sure do hope I'm wrong. The org doesn't seem to be in any rush to sign him either and historically Homer doesn't wait till near the end to sign the guys he intends on keeping.

They are busts because the Flyers decided they weren't even worthy of a contract. It's bad when 4 of 5 picks are gone from the organization 2 years later.

Placek had 1 assist in 16 games at Harvard this season.

It's common for first year players to have miserable stats.

The nice thing about college players is that the Flyers have another three years before they lose his rights, so he can develop at his own pace. Detroit, everybody's draft darling, has switch to focusing on drafting college bound players because of this.

I would think the dane, noebels, cousins, and placek of everything works out. Ranford probablly has the most skill out of everyone but really has a long road of achieving it. First step would be getting a contract

He was on Homer's radar during the draft, but he decided to pick Derek Mathers, career goon, instead. He then assumed that Hyka could be signed as a free agent, but turns out he was wrong. Hyka then starts to produce this year and has seen his draft stock rise to a 2nd-4th rounder.
