GKJ what are your thoughts on Rini thought the whole season. I noticed you seemed to be the most skeptical of him during the year.
As a whole, he has done well what has been asked of him, but he's still not one of the 20 best forwards available to the team in the playoffs.
Regardless of whether or not his play or penalties he takes are good or bad, if the referees are going to target him he serves no purpose in the playoffs going forward other than to put Crosby and Malkin on the ice for power plays. For a series that will likely be dominated by special teams play, his spot would be better served by Eric Wellwood or a 7th defenseman.
People can argue how unfair that is to Rinaldo himself, but it's been going on the entire season, and at some point the coach and the team has to acknowledged the reality of the situation that he is more likely to hurt the team than to help it.

It wasn't a "normal hit." Michalek's back was locked in from the blueline in. It was a minor penalty that was overzealously called a major (if only because 'checking from behind' which gets called pretty much never, cannot be called as a minor penalty). These things happen when a rivalry boils over the previous game. Of course the referees intentions were to make sure things didn't get out of hand, in that regard it was accomplished. This is going to be NBC's lead series in the 1st round, so the team needs to be prepared for whatever that means.
I wasn't too concerned about winning today. Nice to see Jagr get a goal. The call on Rinaldo was amongst the worst all season. We still looked pretty good when we were trying. Hopefully with Giroux, Grossmann, And Briere we can convert on some goals.
