Welp.... Not much we can do without our top 2 defenseman, honestly. It's not a lack of effort, just a lack of players...
Sekera and Regehr will have to be our horses, but without Myers and Hoff we won't do anything even if we do somehow win our last 2 and get to the playoffs.

i would like to think that robin and jordan had a defense only meeting to where they stress defense shot blocking and heads up playing ..they need to excite the kids and tell them have fun but they have to play sound defense ..not to many people get the shot they have

Regehr not up to top two time. If Sekera is 100% healthy, I wonder, to me he's the best candidate to pick up his play. Leopold can do more but only as so much upside. We're getting tons from Sulzer already. I think 2nd best candidate to step up is McNabb but that's a real longshot. Just a kid. But playing RR 20-plus minutes is asking for trouble.
There just isn't much there to pick up slack for Myers and Ehrhoff.

The one thing Leopold can do is eat minutes. And a lot of them.
We also need Weber to give us 15-18 sound minutes. He doesn't have to do anything amazing, just not be a liability. He's done it before, just not with any consistency.

True but you need a player who is threat to break out of the zone and go around you, somebody to keep fore checkers honest. Who can do that after Myers/Ehrhoff? Sekera, that's it. When he's on, he is dangerous off the rush. No one else. Teams will forecheck the crap out of this bunch. Forwards have to come back more, slows whole offense. You need to play almost a different way than we have.

I agree, which is actually one of the reasons I would have considered keeping Brennan up and sending McNabb down since Brennan is a more mobile D-man. But you're right, we're going to need the forwards to break the zone quite a bit.
Idk if it has been previously mentioned, but Brennan said Sulzer missed time because his wife needed surgery:
Quote:
“The team told me to come just in case on the trip. One of the guys, Alex Sulzer who the team traded from Vancouver, his wife had to get surgery suddenly that day. I had skated that morning thinking I wasn’t going to play and I ended up getting a high stick in the morning practice, I got stiches and was in the hospital for most of the day,” he said.
Does anyone else ever get the feeling that maybe we have a problem with conditioning on our team. I mean maybe the rules are to lax for the player in what they have to do to keep themselves in shape. I mean compared to the normal average person they are all in great shape, but I think paying someone millions of dollars entitles you to have EVERY player be phisically conditioned by the top trainers in the world, and entitles to you make sure they are ready to go into games with a reasonable chance of being able to take a big hit without missing 15 games, and the sabres just seem to act like every injury is just part of the sport of hockey when we have the most injuries in the LEAGUE, and you think they would make some changes after pretty much missing going to and probably winning the stanley cup in year 1 after the lockout.
ISN'T THERE SOMETHING THEY CAN CHANGE TO DECREASE INJURIES A LITTLE, because everyone has to face the fact that we are a top 5 team while healthy, and a bottom 5 team when missing half our team. that was the SOLE fact that we missed the playoffs. Personel means NOTHING if they aren't on the ice, and we really do have a VERY good team without a lot of holes when we have over 90% of our players, even with out backup goalie.
ISN'T THERE SOMETHING THEY CAN CHANGE TO DECREASE INJURIES A LITTLE,
Tyler Myers - broke his foot blocking a shot.
Patrick Kaleta - broken bones blocking shots.
Gerbe, Hecht, others - concussions....which really can't be prevented reasonably unless you're talking helmets.
Ellis, Ehrhoff - freak injuries that were more bad luck than anything else
