Of course according to the majority on these boards a coach can absolutely spin gold from garbage.

So once again we rejoice in being in the lottery and the glorious new coach that will lead the team to the promise land.

Good grief.
No doubt but make no mistake, a better coach would have made a difference this year. Renney was completely lost all season, he had no idea what to do with the team. He was a joke.
I guess we'll find out next season if the bigger problem was the GM or the coach.

Yeah a change of coach is going to make the vets any better. If this team doesn't get a stellar year from a 20 year old, the best year of a 22 year old, a good year from its 19 year old and a great year from its 18 year old it is worse than Columbus. If some of the joke vets are not off this team next year be prepare for more pain.

If friggin horcoff is on this team in any capacity next year it will be an utter joke. And no he is not a good 3rd liner, he is sheer and utter garbage. Smyth burnt out Hemksy under acheives, the defense is bloody horrendous.

The oilers will bring in a new coach and it will take him a year to figure out some of these guys are total frauds. I actually think that Renney was talking about major changes in the dynamic of the team. New coach, back to square one.

To lose like that on the last game of the season.....

- Hordichuk and Eager got owned by Lapi, who played their role better than those two ever have in an Oilers sweater, and shoved it right in their faces.

- Hemsky had some nice moves, but nothing to show for it. Can't really blame him when his linemates are killing his plays (story of his life).

- Speaking of Hemsky's linemates, Gagner fails to hit his career high in points. This could be the last game in an Oiler sweater that we see Sammy.

- Dubnyk was amazing. This was probably the best goaltending performance of the season, and we put an effort like in. The guy deserves better, and his 2012 has been tremendous. Hopefully it continues.

- Horcoff, Belanger and Smyth, while had a nice start to the game, completely went invisible. Seriously, whenever this team faces adversity, the veterans fold like a cheap lawn chair and disappear. Disgusting.

- Harti-RNH-Eberle were smothered on the offensive side. They got all the attention and weren't able to get a whole lot done. Eberle hit a goal post.

- Teubert got beat on the outside a few times. Sutton was ineffective on the whole.

- Schultz played well, Whitney was below par(another bad pinch in this game).

- Petry got beaten on the inside, but apart from that was ok.

- Team got thoroughly beaten by a better team. Next year we'll get 'em, motto for the Edmonton Oilers 5 years running.

Belanger on the 4th line to play wing with a strong center like Gaustad (10th PK). and As much pk time available.

get rid of him! TSK! TSK!

Oilbleeder:

Disapearing against the bestline? Oh you mean they played them even.

That means Eberle and RNH had lesser players to beat. they went -1. oops!

The good news is that there are plenty of veterans out there who aren't terrible hockey players. Much easier to find than high end talent.

The bad news is that it's up to the Oilers management to identify and sign or trade for them.

Ok I'll agree IF he's regulated to the 4th line, plays PK and NO PP, and isn't a d!ck to the kids.

Sorry Oilers, just think in a few years how dynamic your team is gonna be regardless of what happened next season. Just think. Keep your head's high Oiler fans.

Its amazing what a few GOOD PMD can do, I've been saying since last summer this was our #1 problem and somehow Tambellini still hasnt realized it.

I wonder how this team would do in the KHL ... maybe we could talk one of the Russian teams into a swap?

Perhaps but there is some talent here and there was clearly a disconnect between players and coach. Smyth, Eager and Belanger went from effective players on other teams to junk here, i hardly see that as Tambo's fault.
I can't remember one game when i thought that Renney made all the right moves, he has been that clueless.
Tambo has his faults too obviously but crap coaching was a big part of the fail this season IMO.
