As I was reading this, it suddenly became a 4 goal deficit.

Need either a combo of Van/SJ losses or VAN/SJ wins (both in regulation).
Really want to play the Sharks in round 1, not the Kings.

I'm a LOT more afraid of Vancouver. I'd rather have Vancouver lose and play The Kings. If The Blues play the way they've been playing lately, they'll lose to The Kings or The Sharks. If they find their mid-season game, they'll beat either of them (given that they'll have the extra home game). I'd rather get the extra home game and start the series at home for The Western Conference Finals. The Blues will need that IF they get that far.
Vancouver just scored (and lead 1-0). Drat!

I'd honestly rather play as the number 2 seed in this year's playoffs. If we get by the first round, we would have to play the winner of Chicago/Phoenix, instead of the winner of Detroit/Nashville. We wouldn't get home ice in the WCF if both of the top two seeds advance that far, but I think the road to getting there would be much easier. Winning the West is never a bad thing, but I think it's a win-win for the Blues.

2-0 Vancouver, now. Too bad we couldn't beat lowly Columbus at home, eh? Or couldn't hold onto a 2-0 lead with 9 min. left in The 3rd vs. Detroit, or couldn't beat lowly Anaheim.
Kings go ahead 2-0! Looks like we might be playing vs. Kings, and we won't have home ice adv. in The Conference Finals.

Eh, guess we'll be facing LA unless San Jose can come back in the third. So we'll be facing LA.
I'm not excited about it. Quick is great and they're averaging about 3 goals a game since the Carter trade, I believe.

Yeah, same here. That hit on Couture looked pretty dirty, I can't help but wonder if they'll get away with some nasty hits on a couple of our guys.
Looks like Nucks are gonna score the Prez Trophy, they are up 3-0 in the 3rd.

Hmm Sharks score, it's only a one goal game now. Plenty of time for them to score another... we might not be stuck with the Kings just yet!

SJ wins it! Now it's time for the Blues to exorcise that 99-00 demon.

Optimal first round opponent. Bring their A game and win.
Possible second round opponents: PHX, LA, NSH/DET winner.

That Blues team did beat the Sharks the next year in six games, so that's over. But now we owe them for 2004.

I thought they would face the winner of Phoenix/Chicago? What am I missing? How would they play LA, NSH or DET in the second round?

Reseeding. 2 can never play 6 in round two. Same with 3 and 7.

LA if the beat Vancouver. Chicago will most likely beat Phoenix, so they play Vancouver if they win, meaning we get Nashville or Detroit.
they reseed everyone after each round, it's not like the NCAA tourney

An excellent policy.
I'm sure we're all going to be plenty busy for the next two weeks or so.
