I made a statement on here about his questionable decision making on his own zone, but I watched him closely last night and he played it much safer in his zone, the guy seems to be getting it.

You know OKC must have a good pk if Anton Lander isn't in the regular rotation. They will likely go Vande Velde/Tremblay and House/Tyrvainen. Lander always fills in if one of those 4 is in the box though.

Tyrvainen has like 6 points in his last 4 or 5 games. If that's a sign that he has some untapped offensive potential, the Oil could have themselves a player here. Guy is a warrior, would love to see him and Lander causing havoc on a line in EDM together in the future. They both provide a lot of energy for OKC since being united.
Hartkianen, Lander and Tryvainen is the future grinder line I suggested in training camp this season. I'll stick by it.

OKC Barons vs Peoria Rivermen 04/6/12

Healthy scratches: Mike Marcou, Cameron Abney.

Injured scratches: Andrew Lord, Kevin Montgomery, Curtis Hamilton, Dan Ringwald.

After his shut out last game David LeNeveu with another start tonight.

Mainly back and forth, feeling their way into the game type play in the first half of the period with neither team really doing muhc of note. Paajarvi had a couple rushes but Dmen deflected away his shots both times.

Hunter Tremblay and Tyler Pitlick nearly had a 2 on 0 break but they went off-side.

Martin Marincin takes a hooking penalty. A Peoria power play that has had good success in the season series against the Barons goes to work. Hunter Tremblay gets a partial break and forces the Rivermen goalie to come up with a nice save. OKC kills it off.

Mark Arcobello on a rush lets one rip and the Peoria goalie makes the save.

Peoria scores to make it 1-0.

I did not hear which Baron it was as the announcer was talking so fast. But one of the Barons knocked the puck out of the air just before it would have went into the OKC net in behind the goalie.

OKC heads to their first power play. Bryan Rodney does some nice work QBing the PP and making things happen and some nice offensive pressure comes from it. Martin Marincin on the other blasts a howitzer on net and forces the goalie to make a good save.

Just after the above penalty ended and with only 7 seconds left in the period Peoria takes another penalty. So nearly a full two minute man advantage to start the second.

Shots at the end of one are 13-8 in favour of Oklahoma.

---

I missed the first couple minutes of the second. But when I tuned back in the power play had just ended and the colour man said something like give credit to Coach Nelson for putting the raw rookie Marincin on the point of the top PP unit. But he was not very good on this last power play and made a couple poor plays with the puck.

Anyway the score is still 1-0 for Peoria.

Magnus Paajarvi gets stripped off the puck, the Magnus steals the puck right back and races up the ice on a clear cut break away but the goalie makes the save.

Anton Lander sets up Tyler Pitlick in the slot for a good scoring chance.

Josh Green with a shot between his legs that almost fooled the Rivermen goaltender.

Peoria goalie Jake Allen absolutely robs Hunter Tremblay on a shot. On the play Pitlick dug out the puck along the boards and moved to Arcobello who fed Tremblay with a nice pass.

Off the next face off Bryan Rodney with a rush up the ice and he passes it over to Mark Arcobello and Allen comes up with another good save.

Anton Lander with another scoring chance and the Barons are starting to feel it offensive it seems.

Alex Plante takes a roughing penalty. OKC kills it.

---

Dylan Yeo takes a tripping call. The Barons PK goes to work. They kill it.

Antti Tyrvainen works his way in going around a defender and goes on net forcing the goalie to make a good save and OKC scores on Tyrvainen's rebound.

The score is now tied 1-1!

Goal scored by Ryan Keller with assists to Antti Tyrvainen & Josh Green.

Bryan Rodney pinches, gets caught up the ice and a Peoria Rivermen player gets a partial break and rips one cleanly past LeNeveu to regain their one goal lead. Score is now 2-1 for Peoria.

Got a phone call so I missed a little chunk of the middle of this third period.

The announcers mentioned they are pretty sure they have not seen Tanner House since late in the 2nd period. Not sure if he injured or not.

Magnus Paajarvi with a big rush up the ice and takes the puck to the net forcing the Peoria goalie to make a nice and Alex Plante shovels the rebound back at the net the goalie Jake Allen had make another back to back big stop.

OKC pulls their goalie.

Keller to Marincin and apparently Marincin shot it in before center and caused an icing. So the Barons goalie has to go back in net.

Goalie back at the bench. A couple shots wide of the net. Marincin tried to shoot the puck right into a Peoria player rather than get it deep where 4 forwards were waiting around the net. The Peoria forward blocked down Marincin's shot, then skated down the ice and put it in the open net.

OKC loses 3-1.

Olivier Roy and the Stockton Thunder beat their opponent tonight; they swept the series 3-0, and Roy allowed 5 goals on 88 shots during the three games.

After his QMJHL play-offs and the WJC, it's nice to hear he's doing well in pressure games.

I'm pulling for the kid.

Me too, I really think he has what it takes to be honest, I don't have worries going forward in net because I'm sure on of Bunz, Roy, or Dubey turns the corner.

Great news! Less that 2 GAA when facing a little over 29 shots a game. Goalies are unpredictable as hell, hopefully he continues to progress and becomes a viable NHL option one day.

I obviously did not listen to this one. But OKC continued to not finish the season off right and throw up another loss tonight.

They lost 3-0 in this one against the baby Canucks so the same score as the big clubs and same results. How ****** is that to get beat by the Canucks twice in one night?

I guess something of note tonight is Magnus Paajarvi actually picked up a roughing penalty in this one.

Tristan Grant also obviously was also in a surly mood tonight as he picked up 14 minutes in penalties, including penalty for "Misconduct - Continuing altercation". I guess he did not want to stop when the refs told him I assume.

Not much else of note appears to have happened in this one.

Anyways the Barons have 3 games left in the season and some troops are on the way soon (Teubert, Hartikainen, Vandevelde).

5 goals in 31 games for #91? Ouch!! I would say he should spend next season there also, not going to help the Oilers win to many games with that brutal production.

Yeah he really needs to go back to the drawing board this summer. Here's to hoping that he has a productive playoffs and that it gives him some confidence heading into next years camp. I also believe that he trains with Landeskog so maybe Lando can give him some pointers?

I've got a question... And it may be silly.

Why are Pitlick and Hamilton in the AHL? Don't most players play 2 seasons in the CHL after being drafted before goin to the AHL?

If guys like Etem And Coyle are still in the CHL.. Shouldn't our guys be too?

It's because they have late birthdays.

Guys like Etem and Marincin are '92s, where as Pitlick, Hamilton and Martindale are all '91s.

If a player's birthday is between Sept. 15 and Dec. 31, they can go to the AHL one year after their draft year.

Not 100% but it might be because Pitlick and Hamilton are '91s. Hamilton has already played 4 seasons in the WHL as well.

EDIT: dnicks has got it. Late to the punch.

But.. Was that the right decision? To me it looks like the oilers rushed both of them.

Oops. I definitely misunderstood. I read it as how not should.

Yeah, in hindsight, I don't think it was the best idea. Even though his season was the most disappointing of the three, I thought Martindale is/was the only one who should have went to the ECHL/AHL.

Its all about long term. Many people are of the notion you have to make every year in the development cycle harder.

You can't surely be giving up on them? A big part of this rebuild was replenishing the cupboards and making sure prospects weren't being rushed into the NHL.

If people keep saying they want to emulate the almighty Red Wings, they need to understand, that the Red Wings never rush their prospects.

I myself am still high on Pitlick. The guy has all the tools to be a perfect complementary player. A player that this surely team lacks and needs.

Paajarvi to me is looking like he's moving into bust territory for where he was drafted. Horrible finisher. Decent hands... but yeah, horrible finisher. I'll be happy if he turns out to be a third line checker who can chip in 10-15 goals a year, maybe even the odd 20 goal season if he gets top 6 time. I think his rookie season he got a bit lucky with zero pressure and playing with Omark, who set him up for a lot of those. I know he was never predicted to be a big time goal scorer, but for the amount of talent and the toolbox this guy was supposed to have, and after his successful rookie season in the NHL last season, I'd expect more at this lower level. Might be slowly turning into trade bait for the Oil. Probably should play another full season in the A next year as well.

So Scott Glennie is a bust as well. Comparable points in the AHL this season. I think it is way to early to declare anything other than Magnus should have himself a good playoffs and get ready for next season to challenge for a roster spot.

Certainly the Barons should be in the running, but it's really tough to say as you don't know what junior/college kids other teams may get. All it takes is one Carey Price or Mike Richards to significantly upgrade a team.
