Game 2:
Burnaby Winter Club (BC) vs Northeast Wolfpack (Saskatchewan)
Burnaby dominated the game. Burnaby played an aggressive game and had an effective penalty kill. Northeast seemed a half second behind most of the game, but seemed to adjust the pace as the game wore on. It was a fairly evenly matched game physically.
Eye catchers:
Matthew Barzal F (BWC) - won player of the game, very soft hands, moved the puck very quickly, very strong and efficient skater
Ty Ronning F (BWC) - very slick with the puck, was setting up plays left, right and centre, a bit small, but still quite effective in battles
Ty Schultz D (BWC) - efficient puck mover, strong skater, anticipates well
Dante Fabbro D (BWC) - well rounded game, good puck mover
Adam Musil F (BWC) - goes to the hard areas and is hard to move, uses size effectively to protect the puck and win battles
Nik Amundrud G (NEW) - made some huge saves early in the game, finds puck well through traffic, makes terrific second effort when needed, athletic
Bryce Fiske D (NEW) - very solid dman, but got frustrated and took a few bad penalties later, skating needs work, but sees the ice well
Matt Long D (NEW) - I saw tons of potential, has a nice touch when moving the puck, hard shot, good with his stick in the defensive zone breaking up plays
Zac Paziuk F (NEW) - fairly creative, created at least four good scoring chances
Game 3:
PAC (Host) vs Pembina Valley Hawks (Manitoba)
5-1 Pembina Valley win
Pembina controlled the game early, but PAC gained some momentum early in the second. Pembina regained control in the third and cruised to the end. PAC defencemen were strong, but the forward group is young and small and had difficulty maintaining pressure deep in the offensive zone.
Eye catchers:
Lawson MacDonald D (PVH) - PVH player of the game, big and physical, anticipated well and moved the puck very well
Tyler Jeanson F (PVH) - good puck skills, good passing, not really fast, but elusive and quick
Colt Conrad F (PVH) - nice, soft hands, breaks through checks and uses body well to protect the puck
Nicholas Sutter D (PAC) - PAC player of the game, very physical once again
Brayden Ritchie D (PAC) - good speed, skated well with puck, played a strong physical game
Kieran Arcand D (PAC) - big and strong, but made a few too many mistakes for my liking
Game 4:
SSAC (Alberta) vs Northeast Wolfpack (Saskatchewan)
9-4 SSAC win
SSAC controlled the first half of the game with fantastic team puck movement. Their powerplay is absolutely deadly. Saskatchewan's first goal was a weak on when the score was 5-0. However, after Saskatchewan's second goal they seemed to spring to life and their forecheck came much harder. SSAC's ability to manage the puck and break out quickly made it nearly impossible for Saskatchewan to sustain any pressure in the offensive zone.
Eye catchers:
Estephan, Benson and Quennville: they controlled the PP and continued to be effective
Scott Pungor F (SSAC): big forward used size well and drove the net effectively
Josh Hayward F (SSAC): great stickhandler, put up three points
Devin Gerwing D (NEW): big defenseman, made several nice passes including a beautiful stretch pass to create their second goal, closed gap effectively and finished hits
Tristan Elder F (NEW): big forward, used size down low on forecheck, good top end speed and a nice wrist shot, led the Saskatchewan effort in the third period
Game 5:
Burnaby Winter Club (BC) vs Pembina Valley Hawks (Manitoba)
6-3 BWC win
Evenly contested match for the first half, but BWC finishing was absolutely clinical and they got up 5-1. PVH came charging back with two goals and seemed to have momentum going. The pace of the game really elevated in the third and there was some phenomenal hockey. However, an injury to PVH player had the play stopped for 20-30 minutes and seemed to kill Manitoba's momentum. BWC scored another to put icing on the cake.
Eye catchers:
Mitchell Dyck D (PVH) - huge defenseman, effectively shut down Barzal and Szeto, big shot, unleashed a few howlers from the point on the powerplay, but wasn't rewarded
Scott Owen D (PVH) - paired with Dyck, very reliable
Colt Conrad F (PVH) - PVH player of the game, led the charge back into the game, drove the net very hard and was rewarded with a great goal and drew several penalties
Adam Musil F (BWC) - BWC player of the game, controlled the slot in the offensive zone (4 goals, 1 assist), created fits for PVH with his size and puck handling
Ty Ronning F (BWC) - controlled BWC powerplay from the half wall, excellent passer and was rewarded with some beautiful assists (1g 4 assists)
Dante Fabbro, Ty Schultz D (BWC) - neither dazzled, but both moved the puck very well and generated offence from the blueline
Game 6:
PAC Saints (Host) vs Northeast Wolfpack (Saskatchewan)
2-1 NEW win
PAC controlled the second and third periods of the game after an evenly played first with a gritty dump and chase style. Shots were 48-23 in PAC's favour, but NEW goalie Nik Amundrud put on the performance of the tournament with multiple highlight reel saves. PAC threw plenty of traffic in front of him as the game wore on in an attempt to crack the seal, but he found every puck. PAC hit a crossbar late in the game, but couldn't beat the NEW goalie who continued making key saves including an incredible one with about twenty seconds left with PAC's goalie pulled. PAC played a very solid defensive game and didn't give up too many quality scoring chances. They have a big and solid defence, but their forwards are small and don't manage the puck as well as they need to to be effective.
Eye catchers:
Nik Amundrud G (NEW): NEW player of the game, incredible performance, good size, tracks puck well and stays square well, fairly good rebound control and always seemed well positioned to make the second save
Tristian Elder F, Matt Long D, Bryce Fiske D, Zac Paziuk F, and Devin Gerwing D (NEW): all played well physically, but like their team didn't do anything spectacular
Conner Lukan F (PAC): great shot, hit two crossbars, one of a few PAC players capable of carrying the puck into the offensive zone
James Miller D (PAC): great skater, tall but thin, plays with an edge, had four or five very nice point shots that he threaded through traffic
Nathan Bizeau D (PAC): small but mobile defenceman, can turn on a dime, not great top speed, was moving the puck well and skating the puck up the ice quite a bit
I missed the last game on Friday and all the games on Saturday due to Easter celebrations, but I will give updates on the at least the gold medal game tomorrow.
Game 7: Manitoba vs Alberta (6-1 Alberta win)
Game 8: BC vs Host (5-0 BC win)
Game 9: Manitoba vs Saskatchewan (7-2 Manitoba win)
Game 10: BC vs Alberta (4-3 BC win)
Bronze Medal Game: Saskatchewan (4th) vs Manitoba (3rd)
Gold Medal Game: BC (1st) vs Manitoba (2nd)
Gold Medal was BC (BWC) vs Alberta (SSAC).
3-0 BWC win
Alberta's top player, Giorgio Estephan looked pretty gassed and couldn't get much done. Both goalies played well, but BWC controlled the game. Barzal's speed created many problems. Ronning was dominant with his puck skills and passing. Schultz played fantastic and dominated low in the defensive zone. Musil played well despite playing with a broken thumb (rumour). Benson looked to give SSAC some life in the third period with several good plays, but the SSAC lacked the energy to keep pace while the BWC players all seemed fresh and were flying. Barzal put in the empty netter to seal the victory. Both goalies played well. McBride was solid for BWC and challenged shooters well. Skinner kept SSAC in the game with solid play after the second goal. All around it was a very good game, especially on the defensive side both teams being limited to very few good scoring chances.
I didn't wake up in time to see the bronze medal game, but it was a 8-3 win for Manitoba.
Colt Conrad played well from what I heard and saw on the gamesheet (2g, 3a) as well as Jeanson (3g, 1a). Tristan Elder won player of the game for Saskatchewan again and from what I heard Paziuk and Gerwing both played solid games.
I don't follow the west....but I was reading the thread and have a question.
This Morrison kid put up 80 goals and 57 assists.....and he's only projected 6? Is the league he plays in not as strong or am I missing something here?
What about Jake Fletcher from Semiamhoo. He fast strong and skilled. Could work on his positioning a bit, but a good all around player. I think he is more noticeable than Matt Bradley. Also dont take your eyes off Glenn Gawdin.

Morrison is skilled yes... But against top teams he was shut down.
Colin Grannary from South Delta. He has great hands, good vision, and is a great hitter as well. Could work on his skating and attitude a bit, but overall is decent.

So Barzal is the consensus 1st overall pick, but what would be a possible outcome if we fuse the 2 lists together? Would Olson be in the top 3 or top 5?
Has big frame and lots of speed with a decent shot. The kicker is that this is only his second year playing out. He was a goalie before hand. His quickness and skating are improving immensely. PAC is hosting the Western Canadian Bantam Championships. His team is very weak, but hopefully a few take notice of him.
I'm not sure why he didn't play much this year. But he is a great puck mover and can quarterback the powerplay. Hopefully someone saw him before this year.
These 2 are real sleeper picks as neither made their respective AB Cup teams.
