Let's call out Trotz for not having the forsight to anticipate that his Olympians wouldn't have there legs and not playing Hall instead of Erat, not playing Suter instead of one of his Olympian defensemen, or not going with 7 dmen to lessen the ice time burden any one of them would have to carry.
Let's call out Trotz for having the creativity of a sanitational engineer in his game plannings and system adjustments....
Let's call him out for having no clue how to bring out the best in David Legwand and Jordin Tootoo and always sending mixed messages......
Hell, while we are at it let's just call him out for having no neck.....
I think he gets bonus points for praising the play of Kariya. You know, maybe if Kariya had the skill level of Fiddler that performance would have deserved praise. Nothing like bashing a guy who played pretty good considering the situation and praising a guy who produced nothing considering his skills.
The fact that Trotz actually PRAISED Kariya, Sillinger and PERREAULT...while trashing Legwand once again...makes me wonder how drunk he was, when he watched the game.
Criticize Legwand...fine. But grow some balls and call out the invisible man Paul Kariya while you're at it.
I think he holds Kariya on a pedestal because of his star status. The guys making point per game money on the old NHL scale. But in the new NHL, I'd expect a little more bang for my buck considering that salaries are down across the board while scoring is up. And the measure of a player like Kariya is points. He hasn't been a bust, but he surely has been less than we'd hoped.
Trotz needs to call a spade a spade, even if the name on the back is Kariya. That are don't call anything at all publicly.
I'd be curious to see how many of Kariya's points have come in games we were already comfortably leading or even blowing out an opponent. When we need him the most, he's firing the puck three feet wide of the net or right into the skates of the opposing defender.
Sadly, you could apply the above paragraph to either one.
Now you're talking. PK is NOT as advertised. Sully is triple PK's value to the team. We don't pay him 4.5 for cute passes. READ MY DANGED LIPS! PUT THE DANGED PUCK ON THE DANGED NET! WE NEED OFFESE NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Poile was very smart/lucky to sign Kariya to a 2 year contract, with all the five-year contracts that were being dished out.
I don't consider him a major disappointment (as he's on pace for his highest point total in 6 years). But, I would not at all be opposed to spending his 5 million on a center next offseason (jokinen? elias?), then shipping him to an eastern conference team for the best offer.
But again, smart move to be able to sign him for 2 years. I still think/hope that Kariya can kick it into another gear, though I'd only classify him as a minor disappointment right now.
