What pisses me off is they have it because they lost more games in ot than detroit. So somehow it makes you a better team to lose more games in ot???
No, it makes them a better team because they didn't rely on the shootout to get their points. You are looking at it from a weird angle and clearly biased.
So the shootout makes you a better team? Is that what you are saying? Because really it is just a gimmick that the Wings excelled at this year.
NASHVILLE
Overtime losses: 3
DETROIT
Overtime losses: 3
So no, they aren't the better team because overtime losses/loser points. They are 5-5 in the shootout. Red Wings are 9-3. Wings are only tied because they win in the shootout instead of losing and winning the same amount like most teams. It isn't a LOSER POINT if you lose in the shootout. Red Wings just have an abnormal amount of Tie game points.
Records without the shootout AND NO LOSER POINTS(losing in overtime=0 points, Going to shootout=tie=1 point)..
Nashville 81 games, 42 wins, 29 losses, 10 ties = 94 points
Detroit 82 games, 39 wins, 31 losses, 12 ties = 90 points
And Nashville has a game in hand that will probably put them at 96 points. 6 more than Detroit. The only reason I'm posting this is because I've seen you post multiple times crying about how all these other teams are getting "LOSER POINTS" when they are getting them from losing in a skills competition/shootout. Are the Hawks better than the Wings because they won a shootout today? lol no. It is a coin flip that Chicago got the best of today. Detroit got the best of it all year long but it is not hockey. So Detroit is actually the ones to benefit from the shaky rules. Nashville has more wins in regulation and OT than Detroit and most people consider that the "real" standings.

Ok they lost and they get a point out of the game. No other sport do you get a point for extra time loss. Imagine baseball half a game same with basketball and football. In the end losing is losing. First tiebreaker should be loser points. Then head to head.
4 on 4 is a gimmick as well
Franzén-Datsyuk-Holmstrom/Hudler/Bertuzzi
Nyquist-Zetterberg-Filppula
Abdelkader-Helm-Bertuzzi/Hudler
Mursak-Emmerton-Miller (Holmstrom)
Eaves(he is still not healthy?)
Lidstrom-White
Stuart-Kronwall
Ericsson-Quincey

I HATE when people call shootout a "gimmick." It's a skill. Skill is as much a part of the game of hockey as physical strength, will, and perseverance. 4-on-4 is much more gimmicky, because it hardly ever happens during the game, while coming down on a breakaway happens regularly.

At four-on-four, at least there are still defensemen and people on the ice defending. At least there is teamwork.
Shootout is much more gimmicky, in that it's more of a skill competition than it is hockey.

so why then not clown show shoot out from the all star games?
why not fastest lap, ultimate fighting on skates or fastest goalie?
slapshot competition is part of the game as well or this clown show?
where is the point in watching practice after the game and give points for it?
i thank god on my knees there is no gimick in the playoffs at all.
they should get rid of this ot at all. if a team cant beat the other in regulation then they dont deserve a second point.
Was at the game tonight, Row 2 in the corner above the Kroger sign. Awesome seats and I was on TV all day. Game was awesome and you can tell people are ready for the Playoff's. Also loved the Nordique takeover today too. Despite the loss I thought we played good. It looked more like we were trying to not get hurt, so I'm not upset we lost, we still got a point.
Chicago was lucky to get the 2 points. That was our game. From the puck drop we set the tempo, had the momentum, chances, everything. Our careless penalties were our downfall and a few crucial mistakes, bam, 2-0 and we're playing catchup yet again. This game more than any this season we deserved the win and didn't get it.

And yet, they scored two, really good goals. We scored a lucky fluke from a bad angle and then another with our goalie pulled.
