who was the Pirate face down on the ice after the attack? Seeing how they interrupted the Pirate's celebration, the fines/suspensions should be heavily tilted towards the Sharks....hopefully helping the Pirate's playoff push. I don't ever remember seeing that happen...dumb, cheap, and dirty.

The player on the Ice was Tyler Eckford, you can see from the last video that Jimmy Bonneau sucker-punched him in the back of the head looking like it knocked him out cold, face flat on the ice, where he stayed a good couple of mins before the trainer got to him.
Jimmy Bonneau needs to be fine majorly and 10+ susp easily
Pelech with the same or more for the spear and starting it all. He split rome open pretty good in the fight as well. punching him in the face with gloves and stick.

Can the rule be skirted by utilizing the conditioning stint loophole? Actually, its not really skirting anything.
Stone's got a coupla games under his belt recently but Summers hasn't played in quite some time.
It probably wouldn't hurt Schlemko to get some ice but I don't see that happening.
If the Pirates don't squeek in to the playoffs the opportunity to get some game TOI will be gonzo.
Also, you had mentioned Chris Brown would be in town once he finished up a course - any word on when Mike Lee?
The NHL has to approve the conditioning stint and they wouldn't... As for Brown, he's still dealing with classes at school. One professor is not being very cooperative. Lee won't be here til next season.
The AHL has announced suspension from Saturday's game vs. Worcester.
Jimmy Bonneau -- 8 games
Matt Pelech -- 4 games
John Cunniff -- 1 game (incident with Dean Arsene)
Curt Gogol -- Fine (AHL doesn't announce fines to players)
Plus, the Sharks organization was fined a undisclosed amount.

Why would the league choose not to approve a conditioning stint for Summers? He hasn't played in weeks and barring injury, won't be playing anytime soon. He would appear to be the ideal candidate for a conditioning assignment.
Pirates muck out a win; move into a playoff spot

Portland, ME – It wasn’t pretty, in fact, it was downright ugly at times, but the Portland Pirates found a way to get their third consecutive win and move into a playoff spot by eking out a 2-1 victory over the Connecticut Whale before 3,280 at the Cumberland County Civic Center.
Where are the Pirates at in terms of tie-breakers should it come down to that? With others having a game in hand it would be nice if they held any tie-break.

Pirates don't hold any of the tiebreakers... They need to get in on points.
Hey Wildcat, has Nick Ross finally figured it out? I'm looking at the stats and I was surprised to see that he was 1/2 a point per game and a team leading +14

Based on his stats it appears Ross has returned to being a legitimate prospect for this franchise. I guess we shouldn't complain about that. We could in theory deal him at this point. Linus Omark maybe?
No thanks on Omark. Don't want a perimeter player who isn't a Tipp type player. I really like Brule, he looks like he could step into a top 6 role and play just fine. He certainly looks a lot better than Omark and plays a Tipp type game.

Good point.
I would absolutely love to snag MPS out of the Edmonton system without having to give up Gormely or Rundblad. I know his value has dropped but I absolutely loved him at the 2010 World Juniors. He was the best player in the tournament. With Yakupov a likely Oiler MPS is hugely expendable.
I agree, I'd like to get MPS and see if he is a good fit, but I wouldn't want to give up anything significant to do it...certainly not Gormley or Rundblad.
Summers for MPS, maybe
Schlemko for MPS, definitely

I think Edm wants top pairing d men. Like most teams, they have enough bottom pairing guys. Unless they think Summers or Schlemko is a clear upgrade on character.
Ross in the last month or two looks nothing like the Ross of the past, it seems his understanding of the ice and confidence has sky rocketed.
On the other hand rundblad has been pretty brutal his offense is almost not worth what he cost defensively.

I've seen the Oilers "D", both Summers and Schlemko would be upgrades...but they wouldn't do the deal, unfortunately.
Ross over the last month has been consistently one of the best defensemen on the Pirates. He leads the team in plus-minus, he's leading the team in ice time among defensemen and he's being used in virtually all situations.

It's amazing how fear of not having a career or source of income can motivate players to improve. Ross was weeks away from being out of the pro game. He's now done enough to at least garner another 1 year contract.

That's a big sign to me that he won't ever make the NHL. The knock on him before being drafted was his work ethic. I don't usually like those types of prospects, but 2007 wasn't a very good draft.

Ross has gained confidence theese last few weeks. On the other hand it seems like Rundblad is playing without confidence, but he has had a turbulent season aswell, with the trade and all. He has looked great in the last few games, finding his game again. I look forward to seeing him next year playing with confidence.
The key with Rundblad's development is he needs to learn when to pick his spots in the offensive zone. At this point he's likely caught between two games and is likely second guessing his gut instinct at times. Signs of indecision are to be expected. With some coaching he will be able to work through this stage.
Rundblad was drafted for his offense, was he not? When you've gotten so far with such a one dimensional game it takes awhile for the realization that it won't carry over to set it. I personally think he should be with the big club, weight training and attending a Sean Burke nightly "**** and Listen" class.
