Building Strength In the Off-Season

Renney specifically mentioned this in the post-game/season interview that they spoke with the guys at length about how this summer off-season training to build strength has to be a priority so that we can hang with the bigger/stronger teams out there (ie: he mentioned Vancouver).

I think that's spot on. We can't just sit around and wait for some Lucic type player to make us "physical". We have to build it from within the organization. Strength can be taught and acquired, it is not a skill.

Eberle is going to the Biosteel camp (Gary Roberts program). He needs to take at least Nugent Hopkins with him.

MPS and Lander need to get on a similar/same program in Sweden.

Couldn't hurt Petry either I suppose.

Knowing this organization, we're going to have one of the kids fail a drug test next season.

That's almost impossible to do, but I'm sure the Oilers will find a way...

I'm pretty sure Nuge isn't supposed to because he's still growing or something

He's 19, not 13.

If you're 19 and a pro athlete, you need to be pumping iron. Plain and simple, unless you're some athletic freak like Eric Lindros.

IIRC, Biosteel is invite only?

Ebs should take Nuge in his luggage. Hall too but he'll be busy rehabbing...

This really shouldn't be a shock to the players and it's something a good agent would be telling Hall and RNH who've suffered some injuries that maybe wouldn't be as bad if they were stronger.

Hall, Nuge, Eberle, and Gagner should join.

Gagner especially. I'm a fan of him, but I do agree with the critics, he still is easy to knock off the puck so building strength should be a priority for him.

I hope this doesn't mean Gagner will lose 10 pounds in the offseason to get "faster" again.
