It was foolish for the Oilers to call him up and waste his last few games of Waiver eligibility just to have him sit in the PB for most of the time. They should have just called up Green or Keller especially since Omark spent most of the games he played on the 3rd/4th line.

Between that and the Paajarvi fiasco makes you wonder if they know what they're doing.
Sheer stupidity by the management team. Let's take a very effective AHL player out of OKC in the middle of a playoff drive and bring him up to Edmonton who is in desperate need for offensive players, only to bench him and put guys like Jones on our top line... In the process, making said player unable to play any meaningful hockey, which in my opinion, keep in mind I'm also an idiot, would not only increase his trade value, which right now is probably a 4th or 5th rounder, but would also give OKC a top line player for the home stretch.

Short answer: inept management and coaching.
I don't quite see it so simply as that.
I think this was Renney and Tambellini not seeing eye to eye. I think Tambo wanted him up here and playing, similar to why he was up here in the press box for 5 or 6 (?) games before management mercifully sent him down earlier in the year. In the end, it's Renney who decides who dresses though. Not comparing players, but the situation is very reminiscent of MacT and Schremp IMO.
Tambellini can bring him up and say, "I want you to play him."
Renney can look at him and say, "that's cool. I'll play my best lineup."
Clearly, the best lineup wasn't the best. Like 'second last' not-the-best.
That's what makes me wonder if they don't know what they're doing. Why put him on that list then call him up? Do they not plan more than one week ahead??

Exactly. Meanwhile, the Barons have hit the skids and might lose top spot in the Western Conference.

I'm puzzled as well, I still think there is more to it than we know or will ever know.
why send someone to OKC who doesn't want to be there?
Omark said it would be great to be down there in okc with the guys and try to win something but sense he was waiver eligible he thought oilers didnt want to risk loosing him for nothing and therefor hoped he would be allowed to go to wc.
I see the whole "size" thing get thrown around a lot in regards to Omark but from what I've seen his size is never an issue.
The way he uses his body/positioning allows him to keep the puck far longer than you'd think. Something I noticed he does is when someone's coming up behind him he'll give himself a 1 foot cushion or so. When he DOES get hit/pushed it just knocks him right towards the puck and he carries on.
Anyways, I'd heard from somewhere that they were going to send him down regardless and just hope he made it through waivers. Glad to see the management isn't quite THAT inept yet.
I remember Renney said in an interview maybe a month or so ago (maybe a little longer) that he wanted to see Omark up and playing... so I have no idea why management brought him up and then the coaches proceeded to bench him for most of the time.
I literally see no sense in that. Obviously he doesn't have any place within the org going forward but you'd think they'd want him playing and contributing "somewhere" to A) let him shake off the rust and get back into playing shape after his injury and B) let him actually increase his value by playing if the whole plan is to trade him away (which obviously is what they will do).
All I can think of is that Omark must be a complete ass in practice/ dressing room and Renney despises his attitude so much he can't see fit to play him over other 3rd/4th liners.
Maybe he legitimately isn't a good fit for the big club, but then play him in OKC where he can at least show his stuff instead of benchwarming in the bigs.
No I'm not Swedish and I describe myself as an Omark fan only in that just like every other Oiler prospect... I want them to develop and contribute as much as possible.
He'll most likely be dealt during the summer/draft and I wish him the best wherever he ends up.
Oilers will try to raise the value on Omark before they ship him away.
If he makes the WC spot it will probably be the right choice. If he don't make the WC-tryout, well bummer.
My guess is that he has chances to make the WC, not in no way a shoe-in. He need to battle for the spot. Swedens team seams pretty good atm, depending on which teams that will leave the Stanly Cup early.
Personally i would like to see Landeskog (who said we would love to play the WC) with Omark
