I think Smith has a better case than Rinne as the third finalist. Save percentage difference is huge between the two.
No, he doesn't. It's not a damn stat-trophy. There's the Roger Crozier Award for that. Rinne is a significantly better goaltender than Smith, which is exactly what the Vezina is for.
Rinne's a great goalie and Nashville's a good team, they don't need to come up with dumb stuff like this to make themselves sound better. Goalie assists? Is there anything more pointless? 99% of them come from the goalie stopping the puck behind the net before a rush up ice.

It's a regular season performance based trophy. Not a, I would pick you first in a pickup game- trophy. Save % is a very good indicator of performance over the number of games a starting goalie plays in a season. I don't think Smith is a better goalie than Rinne, but he is having the better season.

I obviously disagree. Rinne has been the better goalie this season, as well. Smith has a better fantasy-hockey season.
The only true Double Double from In-N-Out Burgers, in fact they just sued someone over using their trademarked name. Had one last night, mmmm mmmmm good.

Rinne deserves the Vezina
I'm glad i'm not the only one who's mind went instantly to In N Out upon reading the thread title lol

No, actually on 4 of the 5 assists, Rinne actually made a pass up ice in order to record the assist. There was one instance where he made a save and the defenseman sprung a forward on a breakaway off the rebound.
Rinne has developed his puck handling skills since teaming up with Dan Ellis a few seasons back and the Nashville goaltenders now help out the defense by beating the first forechecker with a pass on a routine basis now.
A statistical anomaly, but nonetheless being just the 2nd person in league history to do something is newsworthy...

It says he's the second goalie since the 93-94 season to do this. I dont know how many goalies have done it before that but I do know Barasso won the most games in 92-93 and had the most assists so there's atleast 3, probably more.

Rinne has been awesome this year, but Smith has had a fantastic season.. I think it's quite possible that Smith will be a finalist for the award even though it could clearly be Rinne aswell.
- who gives a **** about goalies' assists
- Rinne had a fine season but there were at least two who had better
- "Rinne : Lundqvist = Lundqvist : Elliot as far as workload is concerned" LOL no way
- Lundqvist and Quick locks for Vezina finalists, not sure about Smith; Rinne doesn't deserve any serious Vezina consideration
Explain to me why Rinne's season was significantly better than that of Kari Lehtonen.
Fwiw. I think as long as a goalie plays something like 63-65 games he shouldn't be penalized for lack of workload.
