I'm in agreement. No sense in worrying or obsessing about things that cant be controlled. We find out Tuesday night. And whatever fate happens to deal the Jackets, will just have to make the best of it.
If we want Nail he may even be there at 2. I would say there is at least a couple good options if he isn't. By that time we will know about the Nash situation and act accordingly (I hope) with the LA pick and the 2nds.

I'd have to imagine that if Edmonton wanted a defenseman, they'd trade back to #3 and pick up something else in the process, banking on that defenseman being there.
Obviously, the fear with Columbus picking #2 is that someone else would make the jump over top of them.

Howson is not trading the pick. Unless it is within the first four picks. Grigenko is not an option. That leaves Forsberg, Murray, Yakupov and Galyenchuk. Anything less than those players is bull.
Which is why we'll trade it!!! I can hear Leafs fans beaming all the way from over here: "One of our bone-headed trade ideas actually happened! The #1 pick at the draft, Rick Nash, Jack Johnson, and every other (both) good player(s) on the Jackets for Mike Komisarek!!! I love you again Brian Burke!"
Jackets fans:
In all seriousness though, I actually agree with what you said. I don't see us trading out of the top-5 or so. doubtful, at all.
how far could we move up if we traded the kings pick and the Senators 2nd?
If we could move far enough up we could get some serious mileage out of this draft. I think we nab an elite talent with our 1st, if we can move up into the 8-12 range and grab one of the very interesting d prospects like Trouba or Finn, then use our 2nd to grab a goalie like Subban or Vasilevski.

I am not sure I would do that. We need too much help to be trading picks, IMO. I would want to move up if we weren't already getting 1 elite player in this draft, but we are with our 1st pick (1st or 2nd). I would only move up if someone we really like drops out of the top 8-10.

Certainly worth thinking about, but for me, I'd rather only trade the LA pick in a package for a current NHL player.

true, but that level of d-man would be projected as top pairing D which is one of many areas we don't any depth (Only JMFJ). Moore and Savard may end up being good enough to play top pair but right now they seem to be very good #3 guys, and with Nikki and Tyutin that would be a really solid D-corps.

I am on the fence on that one as well. I guess to me it depends on what we do with Nash. If we trade Nash then we aren't going to sniff the postseason for at least another 2 years, so trading a package for a player in his prime would likely be a waste of their talent. On the other hand if we are just viewing this year as an anomaly/bad goaltending then trading for current help would make a lot of sense.

This is why we shouldnt spend our high draft picks on defenseman, our offense will struggle for awhile, so we will need as much help as we can get on that side, as well as in goal. Believe it or not, we have a pretty solid d core when healthy, and we dont need more d prospects when we already have Moore, Savard and Goloubef. Draft forwards and a goalie in the early rounds.

I think we're in agreement. I'd hope a trade of that pick would be targeting a player who maybe isn't yet "in his prime." Whatever becomes of it, it is a good asset to have.

We'll have 4 picks (executing LA's 1st) in the first 44 or 45 (depends on if NJ forfeits this years 1st). I think there is enough depth to grab 4 solid future contributors. I can foresee two forwards a goalie and a defenseman that could all be very good players. Although I would love to turn LA's pick into some immediate goaltending help (as part of a package)
I don't see a need to move up unless there is a player that falls and the CBJ feel it's imperative to move up to get him. There are surprises every year. Who knows what plays out but I'd like to keep the picks at this point. A player like Skej or Ebert could drop to the middles of the 2nd and I think both could be very good players.
