He isnt NHL quality, but he is pretty good AHL player. His strong point is that he has a pretty good shot which is a reason why he is high up there on the AHL scoring list.
I wouldnt be surprised if he was on the taxi squad during playoffs.
Eh, wish a contract slot wasn't taken up for a guy who apparently won't be playing for the Flyers
Meh. A good portion of the guys under contract on the Phantoms will not ever wear a Flyers jersey. It's the nature of the beast. Every team has guys that are specifically AHL guys.

Yeah and we are also losing 3 deadweight contracts in Leighton, Lappy(no offense to him) and Betts.
And we can always hope we somehow lose Walker or Shelley
there's nothing wrong with this signing. i don't understand the complaining. he's there for the Phantoms, with the slight possibility of getting called-up as an injury replacement
I think the concern is that the Flyers have bumped against the 50 contract limit a few times over the last 3-4 years, and signing people you know won't play for the big club is a strange move when you keep hitting the limit.
I'm meh, unless it does cause problems with the contract count. Then, ugh...learn to count! Even my almost 4 year old can count to 50.

If you don't give this guy a two-way contract, he'll sign somewhere else. All stars AHLers like A.Giroux, K.Aucoin, Locke, Matsumoto etc. are all signed to NHL-AHL contracts even if they don't see much time in the NHL.

Lapperiere, Betts, Backlund and Leighton are 100% gone. Baccashiua, Rowe and Jancevski likely won't be retain. I guess that the jury is still out on Kubina, Sestito and Testwuide. Jagr, Carle and Grossman are UFAs (doesn't mean they will leave)
I know that they have already signed Cal Heeter, Matt Konan, Matt Mangene and Marcel Noebels for next year. However, with Brendan Ranford being the only prospect from the organisation that they have to sign this summer, the 50 contracts limits likely won't be an issue next year.

I'm not sure they wouldn't rule out him making a stop up here eventually.
Or maybe they didn't want to lose Kevin Marshall for renting an AHL player.

Bump. Ford's played great and Marshall?
Found a reference to this while looking at the Phantoms blog. Kevin Marshall scratch for discipline. Wonder if that just started when he went to Hershey?
Hershey defenseman Kevin Marshall, banished to the locker room by French during Saturday night’s game, was a healthy scratch. “It was a continuation of the discipline,” French said.

Well, Paul Holmgren cut him loose very quickly when he got the opportunity earlier this season after backing him up and tagging him as the shut down defenseman of the future for so many years. At least a little bit suspect...
