Playoff D

So, assuming Grossman is back, who are the top 6 for the playoffs? I'd like to see Bourdon in the lineup instead of Lilja and Kubina, but I'm sure they are not paying Kubina's salary to sit in the press box. Here is what I think it will be:

Coburn-Grossman
Carle-Timonen
Kubina-Bourdon

Thoughts?

Bourdon will probably go back down instead of having Lilja sit.

I think Lilja has possibly been our 5th best healthy defenseman lately. But I think they are going to use all of their bodies throughout the series. I wouldn't expect Bourdon, Lilja or Kubina to sit out the entire series unless things go WAY better than expected.

I think Kubina should sit instead of Lilja. I don't care that we traded for him, because he's been garbage the past couple of games. Lilja has seemed to turn it up. But it doesn't matter what I think, because Lavi will probably play Kubina.

Ok...
1. coburn has looked like a beast the last few games. Im VERY excited to see him continue in the playoffs
2. Kimmo is wearing down.
He's been my favorite d-man for a while now...but this is a sad reality

3.
Meszaros needs to come back ASAP

That said:
Coburn-Grossmann
Carle-Timonen
Kubina-Bourdon
(Lilja)

Is likely.

And that's not a bad top 6 given the injuries

Idk, honestly lately I would rather see Kubina out and Lilja in...but that will never happen.

If only we had Pronger, Coburn and Grossmann all playing angry and physical.

Id love to see lilja in there. He has proved me wrong as the year has gone on.

Also whoever we pair kimmo up with has to have some speed. Ive said it all year, Kimmo is slow as hell and always gets beat in a one on one situation to the puck. He has taken so many penalties this year to stop those plays. Also He is very liable against a SH breakaway. I wish we could replace him with someone else on the PP.

I think Lavi plays it safe and picks Lilja instead of Bourdon in game 1.
They will tighten it up and the footspeed or lack thereof in the third pairing will not have that much impact in the playoffs...hopefully.

I have not seen it yet.

Kubina did not make an attemp to hold him because everything Ashem threw landed. Pavel is soft giant now days..

If only he could put all of his 250lbs into a few hits against Malkin. I am sure we would get PP time and Malkin would think twice when he is on the ice with Kubina.

I know he hasnt been great since he came back from injury, but there definitely is a mean streak inside Kubina still. He beat the **** out of someone in Toronto (forget who). If the right buttons are pushed, it can come out

I think he fought Montreals Gorges. Do not remember him fighting in Toronto? Did he fight? Anyway, does not matter.

Simmonds was putting his career on the line trying to protect his teammate and had to fight Engelland (who by the way is no ****ing joke) with one eye shut, Kubina was not even hugging Asham.

I guess the right buttons were not pushed that time.

I'm hopeful Kubina steps it up for the playoffs. He's definitely been dissapointing.

I vote Lilja for the final spot over MAB in game 1.

at least for game 1, I would definitely have Lilja in over Bourdon

Its funny with all the upgrades, who would have thought going into the playoffs with another weak 3rd pairing and a battered first and second pair.

Am I the only one who actually think that Lilja is a good 3rd pairing D? He's competent.

The defense injuries of Flyers are ridiculous. Seriously. Pronds get hurt and we bring in Grossman to replce some of his hitting, then Grossman gets hurt. And Mesz on top of that.

Cobra nicked. Python gouged. Snake. Bitten.

coburn........ would love him to develop the angry "playoff switch".

stays healthy for the regular season and turns on the all out angry 6'5" 220+ wanting the cup machine for the playoffs. I see some flashes, lets go coburn. time to step up to the next level.

I guess people forgot what happened the last time Kubina-Lilja was a pairing? If I remember correctly, the other team scored like 2-3 goals and it was always against that pairing, the slowest pairing in the nhl.

I can see it now...Kubina and Lilja getting stuck out there against Crosby or Malkin... Atleast MAB is faster than those two are. I'd easily have MAB in there instead of Lilja.
