I for one not impressed with the Knights draft,3 goalies drafted,whats with that,after Houser leaves this year or next{they better hope after next}
do they think they are allowed to use 2 at once
As usual drafted small except for a couple D-men,
Last year I thought they did very well, small for the most part but skilled, this year i dont know
They are setup pretty well for this and next year, especially if Houser returns,in fact next year should be a run year
As for the year 2013/14 projecting forward, they look real upfront, however on the backend,I expect Mataa in the Nhl leaving Raine as the only D-man on this years club on the team,as an O/a no less and a couple young tenders
I thought they were high on Patterson, despite the fact he got jerked around in JrB,and the Wheaton kid from Windsor
So why take 3 tenders, and 1 in the 1st,the last time they did this it was zador and we all know what happened there
Hope this not zador 2.0 for the Knights
Unless they really build up the defence 2013-14 for hosting the mem cup mights be a pipes dream sorry for the pun
Liam Herbst was the best available and the Knights took him. Broadhurst in the 2nd has MacKellar written all over it...and the picks of DiLorenzo(see DeAngelo in Sarnia) and Centorame are no slouches on the back end.
Glad you're not impressed though. It'll be that much sweeter when Herbst shuts out the Spits.

PP31
thought i might get a response out you, especially after u messed up so badly on the Schmaltz pick tsk tsk lol
If Herbst shutouts the spits next year or the year after,I will personally cover tickets for you, your dad and that other Spitfire hater and London slappy Nelli
Still dont think u draft a goalie in the 1st,just saying
Broadhurst is a lock to report. London wouldn't take him so high otherwise. Interesting pick. A "now" player who could potentially have an OA season with you as well.

You're listening to too many people who believe they are "in the know" my friend.
If Herbst shuts 'em out...I'll say when he does and I'll take 4 tickets.
The Schmaltz miscue was an honest mistake. P.S...I wasn't the only one who jumped the gun.
For what it's worth...Herbst went 22nd...so essentially 2nd in the 2nd round if not for comp picks. Had those 2 comp picks not been there(which I don't agree with the placement of by the way..but that's another discussion entirely) We wouldn't be talking about the Knights picking a goaltender...we'd be talking about me being right about Brook Hiddink falling to the bottom of round 1.

Ya Broadhurst is all McKellar but surprised to the 2nd round pick. Who else would have known he is available?? Looking forward to seeing him. Not many kids get drafted in the nhl before the ohl, lol. I am not a big Herbst fan and hopefully he doesn't turn out like your last first round goalie!! McDonald is a typical London pick and a quality player. He's an all ontario stud lacrosse player and C of the team which shows you his toughness, leadership and compete level. His teammate Percy is an underrated Dman and may be a late round steal. Centorame plays big and is a great hitter who closes the gap well. He will be in the line-up after a year of tier 2. Good luck!
Too many penalties last night.
allowed Sag top players to play easy minutes
Cant role lines, forecheck and wear out their D while playin special teams so much.
They killed the first 5 penalties and then Sag started clicking.
No excuses, they have to be better.
Hoping to chalk it up to one of those games. Theyve been solid lately and hopefully they rebound tonight as theyve done so many times this year after a loss.
There shouldnt be much pressure felt by either team until they lose at home OR its game 7.
Well its pressure time now, have to get home ice back. Few things I took away from last nights game.
1. Saginaws goaltending "right now" is leaps and bounds above ours, Housers big game ability is starting to scare me!
2. Shoot the effing puck already..we might of had 44 shots but we could of had at least 60 giving is much more scoring chances. TO many guys are passing it off in the slot but Domi is the worst for it.
3. Maybe we should stop taking penalties?? I am not a genius but Saginaw has a much better tPP then ours and they keep scoring on it so just a thought?
4. We have the horses to come back in this series, just have to find a way to win one on the road to give us home ice back and I think we will be ok.

Am I missing something or is there a typo on the OHL site but there were only 4 penalties apiece.
The difference was Saggy capitalized on their chances and their goaltending was better.

Maybe you were referring to game 2.
Posted yesterday at 10:08 AM. I think this poster was referring to Game 2.
KNikghts come out and control play, outchance Sag but head to the dressing tied at one after one.
Griffith doesnt convert a breakaway (it happens) but then takes a penalty outta frustration and seconds later Sag PP scores.
After the Ross goal the ice tilts and Sag controls play.
The knights lied down, didnt play as team, didnt compete at a PO level in the third.
Mark has to take the day, and get these guys motivated and ready to go.
A couple line up changes and a full 60 min effort is needed at minimum
PAterson out playing Houser
Saginaw controlling the blue ice area in both ends.
Sag contolling the third periods (our depth sure isnt wearing them down)
Sag has been mentally tougher so far
Our vets have been soft up front.
Big game Wednesday, well see if they can figure it out.
Our PP went silent last night. A goal on one of the first three PP chances in the first may have helped changed the game but it was Sag who got the momentum changeing PP goal.
Once Paterson got rolling and Sag took a lead the Knights stopped playing. Not a great sign, but something they can control and do something about
Could of the lack of having a decent back-up be haunting the Kinghts right now? Maybe Houser is starting to fizzle out.
Could be, but hes not the only one who hasnt played as well as they can.
Names and McKegg stick out to me (along with a few others) as guys who are really fixxling out. Injuries? dont care attitude? dont want to pay the price or play PO type hockey? I dunno but they havent been good let alone big leaders.
Gilbert has found a way to motivate his boyz, Mark hasnt as yet found the right button.
The 1 team i did not want to face in the playoffs was Saginaw, since the xmas break probably the best team in the west, coaching change made the difference, the trading of Camara,McFarland and Olesiak did not hurt a bit.
The fact Patterson is giving them the opp to wn is nice to see
London has their hands full now,the Saad,Fine and Shalla line stuck to the Knights pretty good and London did not have much response ,especially the 2nd half of the game
Houser allowing 10 goals in last 2 games has to be a concern,as well as the dumb penalties taken by the Knights, they are not playing the Spits now,a team whose 17 year olds were their best players,Saggys vets like Saad,Shalla ,Fine,Ross and Trochek are far mor challenging
Nice to see the Knights take a butt kicking the last 2 games, guess we will see what they are made of
At the start of the series I thought it could go 6 either way, anybody who predicted otherwise just did not do their homework on the opposition or their arrogance set in,maybe a combo of both
We shall see

Not sure its arrogance or just that posters thought theyd win. And not only London fans. Sometimes you get it wrong. Im sure Spit fans figured theyd win a game or two in round one but Id hardly call that arrogant jsut cause they were wrong in support of their team. I guessed 5, maybe 6 but in no way thought Saginaw wouldnt put up more resistance than the Spits for obvious reasons youve stated. The team thats played better is ahead 2-1.

Yes we will see. Either they step up or step outta the POs. Definitely going to see who has the character and compete level the rest of this series.
Im sure your not alone in taking joy at Londons fortunes
You are correct about the addition by subtraction and in Gilberts ability to motivate and get guys to buy in and play solid hockey. MArk has to find that button here or were are done soon.
Hope all the Spits fans enjoyed the draft. Its going to be real fun to watch these teams battle next year and 2014

Well you got your wish but had to suffer thru a sweep by the hated Knights. I was hoping Sarnia would get by for much the same reasons youve listed.
That or finish 6th so tehy coulda gotten the Rangers and left us OS or Sarnia but you gotta play the cards your dealt.

Yes I know I enjoyed the draft,Spits did really well especially if the projections are correct, getting AA rated players in the 1st 5 selections bodes well, addressed some of the needs going forward,a couple of sleeper picks too might surprise,As for the Knights, was surprised they chose 3 goalies,Herbst would have been enough,to go along with Patterson and Wheaton, with the exception of Delorenzo drafted small at least the 1st 5 picks or so,Broadhurst a curious choice pick at the 2nd however Windsor and somebody else apparently were going to pounce on him,I know London has a connection in Chicago,Mckellar,Windsor does too ,Joel Queneville a Spitfire hall of famer, stuff happens, and I am sure the Hunters much like the Spits picked a diamond in the rough or 2 as well
You are correct next yr and 2014 should prove fun between these 2 clubs, next yr as i have previously stated should be the Knights year to shine,as for 2013/14 most of their defence except maybe Raine should be gone, and I doubt Liberati,Subban,Delorenzo and Centorame will lead them that soon, offensively they setup strongly for 2013/2014,in goal with Houser gone, something would have to done there too,I doubt they would rely on a 17 year old tender ie Herbst to lead away

Actually I dislike the Whalers more then the Knights,so losing was not bad I predicted we would, unlike in 2008 when I predicted otherwise except i had it in 6,but the teams were closer in talent and the best players were in their respective lineups
That being said, unless the Knights play the Whalers,I hoping that the Saginaw Spirit win the series and then I can that the Knights in the past 2 seasons have won only 1 round and the spits in the same time span have won 2,post mem cup wins

You post more in the Knights thread than you do in the Spits thread.
Tonight I think we see what kind of leadership this team really has. For better or for worse.
Theyve had a day off to regroup, get prepared and focused.
Lets see what they bring under this adversity. Well see whos willing to lead now and for the future.
Unfortunately I dont have a lot of faith in a couple of the vets who wont be back. (not ALL but a couple-the yankee Fs, I dont worry about, theres your clue ) But for the guys coming back its a chance to show they can be counted on moving forward next year. With all the depth returning and kids coming in, it should be treated as an audition of sorts. Its a time to show they will be there when all is on the line and thats valuable and may deternmine who gets shipped out next year to bolster a roster. Just a thought and hopefully motivating factor for them
They sre still in the series. They just have to make some adjutments, fight for position in the blue ice-both zones, and find a way to get Paterson off his game.
Tonight is all about compete level for me. If they have it and leave it all on the ice and come up short no worries
And stay focused- not sure if theyve noticed but the Sag PP is ok
