OHL Prospects - Most Impressive 1995 Born Players

http://ohlprospects.blogspot.ca/2012...1995-born.html

I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts, or perhaps the few 1995's who impressed you the most.

I'm surprised there's no mention of Bo Horvat.

I see you got both first and second round pick from the 2011 Priority draft of Owen Sound on the list. Ireland is awesome coach, don't be surprise if you list this year's 1-2 round on next year's list.

My thoughts exactly. Horvat is going to thrive when London gives him the icetime the vets are taking right now

One of the most complete 95s out there

hard to argue this, he is quite the player... but on a overall rating I find when you compare forwards with defensemen, it gets tricky, to say that this forward is a better than this defenseman or vise versa. It's tricky because they both have totally different jobs.

I liked what I saw from Horvat this year, there's no doubt he's going to be a great player. But in terms of a lasting impression, the 10 guys I have here made a larger one on me.

That said, if I'm making an early 2012 draft list (which this isn't), then Horvat is easily in the top 10. I'd expect him to have a very good year next season, and his "overall" game will appeal greatly to scouts.

As a London watcher I'd have Horvat on there before Domi. I like what Domi brings but the kid for half the season has spun his tires and created very little. First half of the season he was great. Horvat has been good to great all year... He's put on defensive clinics in his own end and has been part of maybe London's most consistent line for the last 3 months. The kid brings it in both ends of the ice something Max is lacking at the moment. Right now I see it as you win the regular season title with Max but Bo will win you a championship.

Very impressed with Ryan's post deadline play the kid needed a chance and it showed.

Loved the old school game Ritchie brought to the table. The couple of fights he was in he looked like a beast and will be a power forward that will be hard to stop. Just hope he stays injury free unlike his bro.

Top 3 16 yr olds I saw all season were DeAngelo,Kujawinski and Horvat.

Horvat should be on ANY list for top 95's this season in the OHL.

Will you include Ekblad next year on the list of 96's?

With the way he plays Brock should have included him in the 93's or 92's.

No kidding, plus the kid has a beard like freaking Moses at the moment... Could easily pass for early 20's. Maybe he's like Junior Felix, tells everybody he's 16 but he's actually 24.

I know, every time I see him I can't believe he is an under age player. Easily looks like one of the older guys on the team, more facial hair than Scheifele lol.

When asked yesterday who he would choose if he could pick any player to be his partner, defenseman Jacob Middleton, drafted 8th overall by Owen Sound, said Aaron Ekblad.

They played together in the summer at the NHLPA camp, but still, that tells you something!

As a Brampton fan I have been impressed with our only 95 born to play this year, Brandon Robinson.

He isnt the best 95 out there or anything but he had a lot of playing time this year on the 1st and 2nd lines which should be great for him down the road, 15 goals this year on a team that doesnt score much isnt bad for a rookie.

Big kid too, big part of the future in Brampton.

Great list, thank you for putting it together.

It's really hard to choose between the 95s - Many of them were impressive this year, seems to be a pretty deep class of kids; you can make argument that any of the listed kids 3-10 could be moved into any position. I saw Horvat play a half dozen times this year, and I would certainly put him on my list of top ten:

1 Kujawinski
2 Domi
3 Ritchie
4 Dickinson
5 Horvat
6 Harper
7 Garlent
8 Bigras
9 Nastasiuk
10 Baptiste

Honorable Mention (11-20 in no particular order): Nurse, Baptiste, Sterk, Maletta, Robinson, Dempsey, Nosad, Martin, Robinson and DeAngelo.

IMO

It would only be fair. I'll probably do a 1a), 1b) thing. Pretty sure it's safe to say that Ekblad might be one of the top 3 most impressive 96's next season!

I've already explained myself a little bit with Horvat, but I'll try to go a little farther because it seems like I'm taking a lot of flak for leaving him off.

In the games I saw of London this year, Horvat was good. I liked the effort and hustle he brought to the ice. Really hard worker who battles hard at both ends of the ice. But, offensively, he didn't show me much. He was especially quiet in the two London games I saw live this year.

He seems like the type of guy who grows on you the more you watch him, thus explaining why I've got Knights fans all over me for excluding him.

Bottom line is, if I'm making an early list for 2012, he's inside the top 10 rather easily from the OHL (as well as Darnell Nurse who isn't on this list either). But if I'm trying to highlight some of the rookies who really impressed me this year, the guys I listed made a bigger impact on me.

I went through the same argument last year when I had Jesse Graham number one on my list.

Keep 'em coming guys. Always great to see a variance of opinions.

Interestingly enough, Darnell Nurse hasn't appeared on anyone's list. Yet he made the Under 18 team and the all rookie team.

Quite frankly, I wasn't incredibly impressed with him when I saw the Soo play this year. I expected more. But I didn't see them a ton (and only once live). I do realize that he's got a lot of potential though. I know there are some Soo fans on here, perhaps they can shed some light on his rookie season.

he was 3rd overall pick, and he's probably just ridding that train. He will have to prove himself at this level to keep riding or until someone significant says... "hey wait a minute". There is some D men not playing right now but not chosen to play on the U-18 that are better than him IMO... so far anyways...

I only saw Nurse play maybe 3 games. He looked comfortable, but really didn't do much outside of stay safe. I couldn't put him on my top 10.
