I believe Wilson will be gone by October. Just a hunch. Should be moved for some depth on the blueline or a high draft pick.

Looks like he will be the one who will bring us number 3 D

It also looks like we are bringing Ekholm back next year instead of Gill.

If Suter leaves, we're gonna need to bring in a defenseman. Just thought I'd put some UFA names here for discussion. Who do you want from this group?

Denis Wideman, Pavel Kubina, Johnny Oduya, Sheldon Souray, Matt Carle, Shane O'Brien, Adrian Aucoin, Carlo Coliacavo, Alex Sulzer

Personally, I'd love Kubina or Carle. Oduya and Wideman are fine too.

Tollefsen (that I spoke about earlier) has said no to the option on his last contract year in MoDo, so that might be a sign that he either comes over, but there has also been some rumors linking him to the other SEL team Färjestad.

I would like us to try and get SOB again.
Have we forgotten what a liability SOB was? While he had some solid time, he's also no defensive stud and is famous for taking horrible penalties.

Not saying I wouldn't take him back, but he's not a player I would be pursing.

If Frankie, Hillen, Gill, and Suter all leave, we're going to need some serious depth. SOB would be fine to get, just not as the biggest name Dman. I'd love him as a 6/7 guy.

If Suter is definitely gone prior to the deadline, part of any trade for his rights should include a vet bottom pair d-man. Carle or Wideman for that top pair replacement. Oduya as a 2nd pairing guy if his asking price isn't crazy. Then try to see where Blum, Josi, Ellis, Eckholm fit in.

SOB's interview clearly said he wants to stay in Denver.

Kubina and Wideman if Suter leaves. Other then that we are good on D.

Weber-Josi
Klein-Gill
Ekholm-Hillen/Ellis

I could see this IF we don't go to free agency. Ekholm could also be a rotating scratch or start in Milwaukee. Then we could bring in a depth guy for either 2nd or 3rd pairing and move Gill to 3rd pairing. I hope we keep Hillen. I've been a fairly silent supporter of him and have pulled for him all year long. I don't think he's been too bad considering his actual playing time.

I'm not at all. He's an important player on the team that does his job as well as anyone in the league. He scores goals and takes a lot of abuse doing it. Love me some Honker. I hope he's signed long-term.

Getting Parise would be nice but who can actually see New Jersey not re-signing him? I mean yeah he's going to want some money but he is 2nd in goals scored only behind Kovalchuk.

depends on whether the stories of new jersey having money problems are true, and whether Parise wants to go somewhere else...

Jersey does have money problems, but, the recent arbitration result between the team and the city over parking money alleviates those cash woes by about $15mil.

We then sign Parise before he hits the open mkt for 7 mil for 12-13 in a 6 year deal averaging around 7 mil a season.

That leaves us committed to 32 mil plus what we want to pay Suter and Webs which will probably be between 13-14 mil a year for a rough estimated payroll around 53 mil (more if we sign radulov)

We will have to give raises to Wilson and Sergei a well

Does ownership have the cash to put up that kind of payroll?

It kind of blows my mind that a potential roster of

Parise-Smith-Radulov
Wilson-Legwand-Erat
Kostistyn-Fisher-Hornqvist
Bourque-Spaling-Tootoo

Weber-Suts
Josi-Ellis
Klein-Boullion

Rinne
Backup

Would still be around 10 mil under the cap
You've obviously been drinking.

David Poille's not the type of GM to trade away multiple assets on a might. Hence there's no chance he'll be trading for parise (or anyone else of that caliber ) unless we get a guarantee that the player will sign.

Granted we Josi and Ellis have shown enough to not be too concerned about Blum. Trading Lindback, I think, is out of the question simply because we cannot have Rinne playing 65 games each seaspon and be rested for the playoffs. Not to mention we have no one else with even remotely the same experience to shoulder the load in case of injury.

We have several talented forwards (granted no one in the class of the potential free agency) too simply add in anyone else without the cost of deliberately shipping off or sending them to the minors. Players like Smith and Halischuk were healthy scratches simply because there's only so many spots on a squad come game time

As far as goaltending goes nothing's changing

Pulling this thread back up because I have a new plan based on a trade Boston fans just agreed to on the trade boards.

I'm assuming AK and Rads are gone

If suter wants out: Krejci+Ference for Wilson+Ellis+Suter's rights
Sign as UFA- Carle (or Kubina or Grossman or Wideman, take your pick)

Roster still with almost 6 million left to sign more wingers...which would need to happen. Badly.

FORWARDS
Craig Smith ($0.900m) / David Krejci ($5.250m) / Martin Erat ($4.500m)
Gabriel Bourque ($0.618m) / David Legwand ($4.500m) / Sergei Kostitsyn ($3.500m)
Patric Hornqvist ($3.083m) / Mike Fisher ($4.200m) / Matt Halischuk ($0.713m)
Michael Latta ($0.773m) / Nick Spaling ($1.050m) / Brandon Yip ($0.725m)
Brian McGrattan ($0.600m) /
DEFENSEMEN
Shea Weber ($8.000m) / Roman Josi ($1.000m)
Matt Carle ($4.438m) / Andrew Ference ($2.250m)
Kevin Klein ($1.350m) / Jonathon Blum ($0.827m)
Teemu Laakso ($0.709m) /
GOALTENDERS
Pekka Rinne ($7.000m)
Anders Lindback ($0.715m)
BUYOUTS
J.P. Dumont ($1.333m) / Brett Lebda ($0.467m)
------
CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS (follow @capgeek on Twitter)
(these totals are compiled without the bonus cushion)
SALARY CAP: $64,300,000; CAP PAYROLL: $58,500,625; BONUSES: $480,000
CAP SPACE (22-man roster): $5,799,375

That's a lot to give up for Krejci IMO. Borderline overpayment.

But you have to give to get, and I agree that we need a true #1C badly.

Wilson is gone. That deal only gets done if Suter says he wont sign here, so that's no loss to us. It boils down to Ellis and a guy who Trotz hates for a significantly better version of Mike Fisher, with us getting a solid 2nd pairing guy thrown in. I think that trade really helps both teams.

Not to mention, Krejci, Fisher, and Legwand are a killer top 3 centers.

I'd do it, Boston fans would do it, David Poile would likely do it...

but does Peter Chiarelli do it? I'm not so sure on that, signing Suter isn't a sure thing and neither Ellis or Wilson have shown they can stick for a full season, some may say it's just Trotz preference for certain types of players, but if Chiarelli sees the same holes in their game then why would he trade Krejci and Ference for them?

Boston has a huge glut of centers. Seguin and Bergeron are their top 2, and Krejci is a waste as a 3rd center. Plus have Peverly, Kelly, and Campbell.

Maybe he would, maybe he wouldnt. I think those 3 pieces are worth more to them that Krejci and Ference, but the latter two are worth more to us.
