I heard an interview with Dumoulin's advisor. He represents other NCAA kids. Dumoulin rejected $3M last spring from Carolina. The advisor Gary Prohlman went to the NCAA for permission to buy an insurance policy for Dumoulin in case of injury. The NCAA said No but they would buy the insurance policy and charge 11% interest. They held their breath all season worrying about a serious injury. The NHL contracts are insured. Look at Dan Blackburn. He collected some nice money after his career ending injury. Stefan Cherneski decided to take the insurance money rather than attempt a long shot comeback from his terrible knee injury. Prohlman also reps the Maine player who left school a few weeks ago to sign with Philly. He chose Philly over 3 other finalists because they promised him a spot on the big team next season. That kid had 1 semester of school remaining before he graduates. He had more credits than the average junior in college.

Doesn't all of that count as some kind of compensation and hence count against the cap?

There could be an intriguing arrival this week, however. Chris Kreider, the Rangers’ first round pick in 2009, is expected to see his entry level contract finalized in the next 24 hours. If General Manager Glen Sather and Kreider’s representative, Matt Keator, can reach an agreement by Monday night, Kreider could join the Rangers at practice Tuesday morning.

For Kreider to have a chance at making his case for playing time in the first round, participating in two days of practice before the series opener would seem to be necessary. On Saturday, Kreider won the N.C.A.A. championship with Boston College by defeating Ferris State in what was likely his final game as a collegian.

The Rangers practice today at 11. Say its 11 again tomorrow. Kreider could have enough time to skate in practice tomorrow and then attend BC's parade at 5:30. Its a 4 hour drive from the Rangers facility to Boston.

I doubt he's going to practice and then hop in a car and drive 4 hours.

And the Chris Kreider watch may come to an end later today as there are indications the Rangers and the Boston College junior are nearing an agreement. There are no time holds through the NHL office so its conceivable Kredier, if he signs a deal today, could be on the ice tomorrow.

Practice? It's a parade. He's not getting drunk or doing anything stupid at a parade. He can drive and get to NYC at 9:30 tonight.

Other way around. BC's parade is tomorrow at 5:30. People are talking about him signing tonight, practicing tomorrow at 11, and then heading back to Boston in time to participate in the parade

minus 1 hour to get to Elmsford, NY. So it's more like <3 hours, or 30 minutes by private Jet to Westchester

Don't some of you think you're overhyping this just a little bit?
