Shaw actually reminds of a lot of players coming up through the ranks. Not a lot of flash, not a lot of OMG look at the move, not too big...etc. They just get the job done.

The difference is that he's been able to do that at the NHL level.

Quite the accomplishment. As long he doesn't get hurt or worn down, limiting his ability to use his drive, he should be a productive player for the better part of a decade.

No doubt Shaw is the surprise come out of no where player for the Hawks this year.

Nobody here had any clue about him until he was called up.

Really nice article about Shaw by team historian Bob Verdi:

http://blackhawks.nhl.com/club/news....id=DL|CHI|home

Seems like a good kid... heart's in the right place. If he can even keep the pace he's had since being called up the 2nd time, he'll have a spot on our team for years. One of those heart-and-soul team players that an organization doesn't wanna give up on. Has a lot of potential to be greater than that.

Shaws got a lot of heart and jam. I really like his motor and isnt afraid to be around the net.

I was wondering who would be the next "coming out of nowhere" player. Someone completely off the boards who could make an impact. Looks like Shaws that guy.

Any word if any suspension was handed out to him today?

Did smith get any Oscar considerations today as well?

Just curious.

Shaw will likely get 1-2 games and that will be a travesty. he shouldnt get anything when Weber doesnt get suspended at all...

on NBC Sports with JR, Keenan says the Shaw hit was stupid and he will be suspended...he was actually mocking Q as they showed Q making diving jestures to the refs after the hit. Keenan was saying " I dont know what hes arguing about, but that hit was terrible"...I used to like Keenan, old age and sucktitude as a coach his past few miserable stops has really hurt his vision.

with Shaw likely out (lets assume he will be out since he hit hockeys version of the QB), Jimmy Hayes should be inserted in the line up immediately. and while your at it, sit Brunette for Saad. thank you./

Shaws is not a star player... Toews or Hossa wouldn't get a suspension, Shaw will by the sounds of it

If shaw gets suspended, and I think he will, does Q dress Hayes or Frolik?

I don’t recall waiting so long for a verdict when the team is playing a crucial game in just over 8 hours. Not sure why the delay but to me the longer it takes to hear from Shanny, the better chance there is that Shaw will not be suspended.

As for the play itself. I’ve watched it many times and I’m convinced that Smith knew exactly what he was doing when he left no space for Shaw to skate by him behind the net. He tried to draw the major penalty. It was the immediate flailing and lovely pirouette that took place the instant he felt contact that gave it away. Coyotes are continuing this charade by having Smith fake like he may not play tonight. What a joke.

I'm not saying that he didn't embellish at all, but it just seems like a stretch to say he planned to take a shoulder to the head. I could see trying to draw some contact to get a minor for goalie interference, but I highly doubt his intent was to take one to the dome.

The way Phoenix is handling this compared to the way Detroit handled Zetterberg is a pretty good example of why Detroit is the classiest/best/most respected organization in the NHL and the Coyotes are the Coyotes.

Detroit could've easily milked the Zetterberg thing in order to try and get Weber suspended, but they didn't. Instead they came out that same very night and said Zetterberg was fine and would play the next day. Compare that to the way the Coyotes are handling this?

How sad/funny is it that the Wings aren't the least bit concerned with having to face Weber whereas the Coyotes are pulling out all the dirty tricks in the book because they are scared ****less of big bad Andrew Shaw? Might be one of the reasons the Wings have been a consistent Cup contender for pretty much the past 20 straight years while the Coyotes are an embarassing birthmark on the NHL's ass.

As a Hawks fan it pains me to say those things about Detroit, but the truth hurts sometimes. I've gained a ton of respect for that organization and the way they handled Zetterberg only adds to that.

Smith's Hollywood performance seems blatantly obvious to me. I hope Shanahan takes in to consideration Smith's unprofessional display and combined miraculous quick recovery when making his decision.
