Agreed drafting for need even in the top 15 to me is a bad idea, hockey isn't football

Define 'almost everyone'.

Scouts, aka people who rate prospects for a living.
The only person i've seen who DOESN'T have Grigorenko at 2 is Craig Button. And even if there's more... most have him as the 2nd best player.

Weak sauce. If you're going to say 'almost everyone', provide sourcing.
Future Considerations ,
Red Line Report , Button, and THN (in Future Watch) don't have Grigorenko #2. So it's far from a unanimous ranking.

Yeah Grigorenko was #2 and even #1 on some people's rankings, then questions arose on his motivation and he's fallen.

RLR even explicitly says that after Yakupov, they could see the next 4 going in any order.

Very observant.
Last I checked, the 2012 draft hadn't happened yet.

Yeah in my hypothetical scenario, I don't hunk caps make that Carlson trade unless they intend to pick grigorenko because they think he's #2 and a malkin.
No reason to trade D then take a D. And Gagner isn't worth that risk.

Disagree. If you're trading Carlson to get a 2C in Gagner, it makes sense to use the pick to replace the talent lost on defense.

Eew. I hope that's not in the cards.

Oh, I totally agree. Gagner got almost a third of his points, and nearly half his goals this season in that one 5-game stretch. He's not any more the answer at 2C than we've already got. Carlson and 11 for Gagner and 2 would be a step backwards.

That lost talent is lost years as well. Whatever d we draft is inconsequential to the next 3 year at least maybe 5. But agree if the caps were to do that deal, and follow with a d... Then I would surmise that the caps are 2c high on Gagner and the pick is a cherry.
I like the potential of having two top forwards on elc with ovi and nick... And I'd burn one of the young d to do it if my scouts thought so highly of grigorenko. And I could bring back a d on right side of orlov, green, and Wideman. But we know wides is gone... So whatever.

Anyone who even entertains a Carlson for Gagner trade needs to be paddled.

how possible is it for the Caps to try to deal for Corey Schneider?
I don't know if there's been chatter about this (and forgive me for not searching extensively), but what do you guys think? Would it be completely ridiculous to think Neuvirth/Holtby and a 1st would be enough or even worth it? Or could the Caps just offer an "unmatchable" contract for Vancouver and dump one of their mid-firsts and a third for him?

Why would we trade for Schneider?

I guess it doesn't make sense since he's essentially Vancouver's version of Holtby, but personally I think he's better than what we have, that's why. Is there enough depth in this year's draft class to make our 2 mid-round picks in the first unmoveable?

I think he was talking about moving up.

It was about team building. Not being closed minded and linear thinking... but that's another discussion.

Hypothetically, if we win the lottery and move to 7, who would be the ideal option? Faksa? Trouba? Gaunce?

But, if Washington doesn't move up, and Girgensons is still here at #11, would you take him?
