The South-East and North-West are considerably worse than the Pacific. The North-East is also worse.

The Pacific is the worst? Absolutely not. Northwest and Southeast are clearly much worse. The Northeast isn't much to phone home about either.

Quick has 10 shutouts and is top 5 in wins for a team that couldn't buy a goal.

Hart - Malkin
Vezina - Smith
Norris - Chara
Adams - Hitchcock
Selke - Bergeron
Calder - Landeskog

I cannot understand all these Karlsson votes. Maybe if the Norris was for best offensive defenseman.

Its funny enough when people put Karlsson for Norris.... Apparently now he's a Hart candidate too.
You sound like the type of guy that would have told us a year ago that Karlsson ever becoming a Norris candidate was laughable.

And then he went on to gain a lot of support to become the 2nd youngest ever to win it.

Never forget, you aren't that smart.

The fact that his defense isn't as good as the others is made up for by the fact he greatly out produces them offensively.

I admit to some bias but I think Lundqvist has to get the Vezina this year.

He sees slightly more rubber per game (28.3 shots /game vs 27), while save % and GAA are very comparable.

Beyond the stats, I think there are three other factors working in Hanks favor.

1. Consistent performance and prior nominations.
2. Man games lost to injury on defense between Staal and Sauer.
3. Strength of Division. The Atlantic has by far the most goals per game at 2.88, while the Pacific is second worst at 2.54. Lundqvist's numbers are BETTER vs the Atlantic (0.935, 1.59). In an admittedly small sample size vs Quick's Pacific Hank posted a 0.960 for both save % and GAA.

Well, if past years are any indication, the Norris trophy seems to go to strong defensive players who can also generate offense (Chara, Lidstrom, Keith, etc.)

Hart-Malkin (Stamkos, Quick)
Vezina-Quick (Lundqvist, Rinne)
Norris-Weber (Chara, Karlsson)
Adams-Hitchcock (Bylsma, Vigneault)
Selke-Datsyuk (Kesler, Bergeron)

I don't trust enough people to have noticed Bergeron's play to actually award him the Selke.

You put Lundqvist and Smith up as Hart candidates instead of Quick? I'd say Quick would be the runner up to Malkin.

Thats a pretty crappy way to view the overall best defenseman.

If they make the playoffs he wins in a landslide but I don't think he will given they missed the playoffs whether thats right or wrong. We have seen it before with Iginla.

How?
his offense >>> any other defenseman
His defense << other top defenseman

In overall ability he is as good or better.

Interesting that the President's Trophy winning team may end up with no nominees for the awards. That's probably appropriate this year as opposed to last year. Speaks strongly about the depth of the Canucks though.

I can understand people voting for Karlsson, but I have no clue how people can vote for Weber. The only thing he has over Chara this year is goals. That's it.

He's just the "sexy" pick for people to make.
