How?
his offense >>> any other defenseman
His defense << other top defenseman
In overall ability he is as good or better.
Its for players playing the defense position though. Their ability at defense should greatly outweigh their offensive output. But its clear we don't agree and won't, so whatever.
in legal parlance "taking the silk" means being appointed to the rank of Queen's Counsel or Senior Counsel. So the winner of the Silke should be Brian Donald Ross, QC, a senior partner with Fulton & Company LLP in Kamloops or Ed Fast, QC, member of parliament for Abbotsford!
I can understand people voting for Karlsson, but I have no clue how people can vote for Weber. The only thing he has over Chara this year is goals. That's it.
He's just the "sexy" pick for people to make.
I think a lot of it will come down to having ONE major player award come from the west. It could happen in the Vezina race as well.
And to be honest, I had "or Chara" there, but had to make just one pick.

Thats a pretty crappy way to view the overall best defenseman.
looking at overall ability is a bad way to view the overall best defenseman?

It would make it closer, but Geno still scored 11% more points than Stamkos. That's the biggest gap between 1 and 2 since 1999 I believe. In 7 less games to boot. Not that playing less games is a valid MVP argument but still.

the goal is to outscore your opponent. What's better, being a part of 80 goals for and 65 against or being a part of 50 goals for and 45 against? The second guy is better at defense, but he didn't help his team outscore his opponent as much as the first guy. And ya, I pulled the numbers from my bum.
Are you guys basing this off who you think SHOULD win it, or who you think WILL win it? Because if you're saying who in your opinion should, I'd understand the Quick comments, because he is just as deserving as Lundqvist; but if you're actually predicting that the GM's will pick Quick over Lundqvist, that just won't happen, no matter who might be more deserving of it.

Based on all times GM's have picked Lundqvist over other goalies right?
The Pacific is the worst? Absolutely not. Northwest and Southeast are clearly much worse. The Northeast isn't much to phone home about either.
Quick has 10 shutouts and is top 5 in wins for a team that couldn't buy a goal.
Well, I guess it helps that Quick is in a division that isn't prolific at scoring goals then.
To look at GF:
Atlantic - 1,203 goals for
Pacific - 1,053 goals for
Atlantic - 12.4% higher goals for
To look at GA:
Atlantic - 1,104 goals against
Pacific - 1,046 goals against
Pacific - 5.5% lower goals against
Like I said, you can claim that Quick is fortunate for being in the Pacific because had he been in the Atlantic, he would have had less wins based on those statistics. The Atlantic is far more prolific than the Pacific at goal scoring. And the difference in goals against isn't substantial between the two.
And I won't buy that non-sense that it is because it is the Eastern Conference. The Atlantic scored more goals because they are better teams with a deeper offensive talent pool. Malkin, Crosby, Giroux, Kovalchuk, Parise, Tavares, Gaborik, etc, are just some of the upper echelon players in the division. IMO, Quick's division can't match that. The Atlantic also housed the #1 and #3 most offensive teams in the NHL. And had Quick been in the Atlantic, he'd inevitably give up more goals because of that.
When you look at that, objectively, I don't know how a King fan cannot see that the Atlantic is the better division, the higher scoring division, and would ultimately lead to a greater number of scoring chances, goals against, etc, for Quick. Objectively, the division you play in does have something to do with it. Especially when you play the teams in your division 24 times.
Based on all times GM's have picked Lundqvist over other goalies right?
Yeah those other times where other starters had better stats than him and their teams finished better than 8th in the East. I agree that Quick statistically should have as good a chance as Lundqvist, but after all the publicity, HBO 24/7, 1st place, etc, they'll give it to Lundqvist.
I'm not basing this on bias, because personally for me it's literally a flip of the coin, but logistically there's no way Lundqvist doesn't get it this year.
