4th Line Next Season

I would love to see the fourth line consist of:

Svitov-Rupp-Fritsche

Svitov brings a 2-way element and the ability to pot a few goals, and he could also play on the PK

Rupp brings size and toughness to the line.

Fritsche could bring a little bit of everything, and in the process getting some special teams time.

I stand by my thoughts that Fritsche is the higher scoring successor to Letowski.

Future 3rd Line-

Pineault-Dupuis-Fritsche

Fourth lines are just about impossible to perdict.

I doubt we dump off Jody Shelley, hes much to popular.

What if Goertzen or Severson established themselves?

There are two different directions they could go. They could make it into what you perdict, another scoring line, or they could go with a checking line. I perdict the latter, assuming Gallant coaches next year.

2 things. dont bring fritsche up if you are gonna play him on the 4th line. until he is 3rd or higher, leave him in the ahl. 2nd, svitov isnt a 4th line player and wont come back over to play 7 min a game

I am warming to the idea of blending our current 3rd and 4th liners with youth to balance those lines and also give us a 3rd line that was a secondary scoring line beyond just "energy and chip in a few goals" and a 4th line that is just a "muscle" line. It all depends on which direction GG/DMGM want to go with the roles of the lines - however it seems awfully "old NHL" to roll fourth line that you expect only to bring physical play when you expect the same from your third line.

As to specific players, there are too many at this stage for me to predict/suggest regarding who plays with whom. However, I would be open to breaking up the current third line (next season) to give lines 3-4 balance, if necessary, even though I like that threesome together a lot. And I'm more and more thinking that Svits and Danny max out as third-liners with upside.

4th line next season shouldn't cost more than 1.5 million dollars. Goertzen-Rupp-Cheap Guy.

So any combo that fits under that is fine by me. No sense in cutting that much into your budget for a project guy like Svitov who might only get 6-7 of ES time a night. Goertzen is fine, he is cheap he kills penalties and will fight. Find two more just like him.

Fritsche would be wasted in a 4th line role, Hartigan-Fritsche-Picard should be a line all next year.

Where would this line fit, if not as a 4th line?

Pardon me for not getting real excited about our 4th line next year. It doesn't really get the juices flowing, but just for the heck of it, I think a Picard-Rupp-Goertzen line would be doable.

They would certainly get more than 4 minutes of playing time for the simple fact that Jody won't be on the line. Ease Picard into NHL play with around 8-10 minutes a game and he could work his way up if he does well.

More and more, I'm liking these lines for next year:

FA-Fedorov-Zherdev
Nash-Brule-Vyborny
Chimera-Malhotra-Letowski
Picard-Rupp-Goertzen

I could definitely live with and be excited about that lineup.

For some reason I still think Avery ($532,000) would be a nice fit on the 4th.

FA-Fedorov-Zherdev
Nash-Brule-Vyborny
Chimera-Malhotra-Letowski
Rupp-Avery-Goertzen

If we lose one of Manny/Letowski/Vybes to UFA then Picard or Fritsche (maybe both) are definitely in the mix somewhere in there.

I gotta believe there will be room for Rupp on the 3rd line next season.

I'd rather have Picard down in Syracuse pulling top line minutes than doing 4th line duty in Columbus. Bring him up occasionally during the season to check his progression. I still think he needs a few pounds and more muscle before he's brought up.

Fritsche .... I agree with whoever said he's Letowski with a little more scoring upside.

Svitov is a better 3rd liner (i.e. defensive shutdown line that can score occasionally). I don't see him on a high energy checking line.

How soon before Pineault can play in Syracuse? I wouldn't mind seeing a Picard-Dupuis-Pineault line there to see how they click.

What?

Of this line, I'd much rather see Svits or Danny on the third line over Rupper.
