Finally saw episode 2. Just curious what disappointed you. To me I think they have done a really good job of filling in scenes that were implied but never actually read about in the books and so far the characters they have cut have been mostly livable. I ask as a fellow ***** of the books , just wondering what rankled you about it.

I'm just not a fan of changing things that don't need to be changed and adding things that don't need to be added. There is such a huge butterfly effect in the books that by changing things that seem simple, after a while could become bigger changes. Personally, I feel like the writers have a fairly simple job. The have everything already written for them and all they have to do is skim it down to fit into tv shows.

As for specifics
Spoil:
I wasn't a fan of how they did Arya hiding from the goldcloaks. I just didn't like the feel of it. The suspense wasn't there like it was in the book. Shae continues to be out in the open. Bronn was not made commander of the city watch. Joffery didn't order the killing of the ********. Asha was poorly casted as she is portrayed to be attractive, but this actress is not. The Cersei/Joffery scene. The Cersei/Baelish scene. The Stannis scene. The fact that they haven't described what R'hllor and the red priests are. And the icing on the cake for me was Dany's bloodrider being killed.

Then they add stuff like the Baelish scene in the brothel, which is completely useless.

All I'm saying is that they have a limited time to fit everything and they decide to leave important stuff out and add things that either didn't happen or are garbage. I'm hoping this was just an isolated incident and it doesn't continue to happen through the series. You change one little thing here and they there, and then all the sudden by the time you are at the latter books it is completely different.

Dont you mean Yara not Asha because it sounds to much like Osha. Also she isnt ugly. Shes casted right for a woman who spends her life at sea paying the iron price. At least i found her some what attractive and its not like the women in the show are beauties any way. The actresses who plays Dany is the only cute one and she us hotter as a brunette. Cersei looks like someone beat her with a sock full of dog crap.

I think there's quite a few attractive female characters on the show. Most of the girls are dumded down looks wise to look like they aren't wearing a ton of makeup. I've always liked Lena Headley (Cersei) and Daenerys is a beauty. It's definitely a to each his own situation.

I don't think her attractiveness is all that important. Her interaction with Theon is more important, and in that, they did well.

Osha sounds nothing like Asha.

I'm like 'WHO THE **** IS YARA?!?!?'

I think the scene with Baelish was simply that he is more conniving than we all think and will do ANYTHING to get out of a bad investment.

Yeah there are things being changed for change sake.

Spoil:
One thing about Dany's bloodrider - that actor couldn't do the show this season because he got a bigger gig and the rumor was he wasn't going to be on at all. So I guess they got him for that one scene and then gave him his goodbye. He's not that major a character really so it didn't bother me but I can see why it bothers some. The brothel scene was pointless I agree. The Arya scene - yeah the gold cloaks part wasn't as suspenseful from the book but the scene with her and Gendry was well done so I liked it. The Shae and Bronn changes to me were more about budget - not have to pay for a mansion for Shae and no need to cast Bywater just to have him die in episode 9. I was disappointed as I liked the character but I understood why. And the Stannis scene, I don't know, it was always pretty clear from the books what went on there - they were just showing it in an over the top fashion.

I never really got that Yara/Asha was attractive from the books - sexy but not necessarily super hot. I don't know. As long as she acts well I'm fine with it. Like Cersei - Headey is pretty enough but not as pretty as Cersei is made out in the books but she is an excellent actress so I don't mind. I don't know, I'm just so happy to see it brought to life that I look past a lot. They are for the most part keeping the narrative and feel so I can take the changes. Ghost looked awesome!

As someone who has not read the books, I felt that scene with "Littlefinger" was both important and interesting.

Especially as a fan of the Wire, where Aidan Gillen was very sympathetic as Tommy Carcetti, despite his foibles, he similarly comes across as a good/nice guy as Baelish, despite playing all sides.

So, giving him a scene where he starts off nice, but bringing in a quiet, threatening menace and a real dark side added nuance to the character.

In the books, or not, that was a strong scene.

Went ahead and made sure my normal shows that DVR don't get in the way of me watching the first four games of the first round series. Only Game of Thrones on Sunday night had to be pushed back to the 11 o clock slot. I am ready.

Fair point. I know he is a cold SOB from the books but this was their way of reinforcing it. He is excellent as Littlefinger. Perfect for the role.

I like how last night's HIMYM finally started to put a definite bookend on how far they'll extend the series.

I'm still meh on HIMYM. they are getting way to serious for a comedy. Glad to see its going back to roots with the latest episode. I agree with Barney nailing a chick in a storm trooper costume would be hot. especially if it Robin

So I got the first disc of Season 1 of Game of Thrones from my library, going to watch it tonight. What should I do to prepare myself?
