I don't think Bowen makes the team unless some serious steps are made in the off season with his skating.
To be honest I didn't think Bowen's skating was as bad as everyone makes it seem, I mean he is never going to move like Cam Fowler on the back end, but I do think he can get to a Harry Young level. I thought the real issue for hime was a lack of anticipation given his limited time in game situations and then when he was slow reading a play, it made his skating deficiencies stand out more.
London had 9 Rookies with 7 of them 94 (2) and 95 (5) births as well 13 players either 94 (8) and 95 (5) births.Plymouth had 8 Rookies with 6 of them 94 (2) and 95 (4) births with 10 plyers with a 94 (6) and 95 (4) birth. Kitchener had 12 Rookies with 9 of them 94 (5) and 95 (4) births as well they had 13 players with 94 (9) and 95 (4) births.
i think its fair to say Windsor, Owensound, and Guelph withh challenge for 4-6 with all 3 having good and bad parts this season having a young roster. Guelph had 10 Rookies with 8 of them 94 and 95 birth (4 Each) as well 11 Players on their roster either 94 (7) and 95 (4) Birth. Windsor had 10 Rookies with 9 of them 94 (4) and 95 (5) Birth as well as 15 Players either 94 (10) and 95 (5) Births. OwenSound had 7 Rookies with all of the 94 (5) and 95 (2) Birth as well as 10 players with 94 or 95 Birth.
As for the Bottom 7-10 I would say Erie had 13 Rookies with 11 of then 94 (3) and 95 (8) Births as well they had 17 players with 94 (9) and 95 (8) Births. Sarnia had 9 Rookies 5 were 94 (2) and 95 (3) Births as well they had 8 players with 94 (5) and 95 (3) Births. SSM had 9 Rookies with 6 being 94 (1) and 95 (5) Birth as well they had 11 players either 94 (6) and 95 (5) Births. Saginaw had 7 Rookies on the team with 6 94 (1) and 95 (5) Births as well they had 10 players with 94 and 95 Births (5 Each).

07/08 was returning more talented guys than 11/12 even with losing Bailey and Snetsinger.
Windsor scored 213 goals this year and are returning 172 goals which is 80% of their scoring which is pretty good but if you look at other teams they're returning a lot of scoring as well.
Plymouth scored 279 goals this year and stand to return 212 goals that's including returnees of JT Miller and Stefan Noesen but both are real good bets to return. That is 76% of their scoring which isn't as much as Windsor but overall they return more goals.
Windsor has a huge question mark in net and Plymouth returns a very good goalie in Mahalak.
Windsor should be improved but it's quite possible they aren't even the best team in their division Plymouth looks to be better already and if there's ever an NHL lockout Sarnia with having Yakupov and Galchenyuk back might be better as well.
Consensus seems to be Schmaltz rumor was just a fantasy. Nick Schmaltz coming over for 13/14 is a possibility but for this year doesn't seem realistic. The improvements for next year will need to come from the returnees like Clarke, Marchese, Devlin, Ebert etc.. Those guys have to get their act together just to be improved over next year and not necessarily a contender.
To the point of returning goals I realize numbers don't lie but I feel alot of our players maybe for lack of a better work under performed this year or didnt live up to there potential as where in plymouth I think most of their players lived up to what they were supposed to. Which is to say that I would expect plymouths players to have roughly the same number they put up this year, but I can see windsor putting up far more goals due to player development. With your math thanks for looking it up the spits will lose 42 goals this with player moving on. I think that player's will have far better seasons then they did this year such players are
Jordan Maletta 5 goals last year I would expect that to jump to 20 to 25
Michael Clarke 15 goals last year hoping for 20 to 25
KoKo only 56 games last year 22 goals should put out 30 or little more this year
Brady Vail 22 goals last year hopefully keeps consistent this year maybe 25
Chris Marchese 58 games 18 goals.... not really sure what to expect but hoping for the best
Then you add dmen who are supposed to be offensive dmen such as Bateman with 1 goal you know that is gonna go up
Not to mention the addition of Ho Sang I dont know too much about him but alot of people are quoted as saying he is in the company of hall and tavares who both scored 45 their rookie years and stamkos comparisons who also put up 42 his rookie year.
So even if we lose 42 goals in scoring maybe 2 players will be able to make that up plus the rest. curious to hear your response
^We need our defencemen to be able to hit the net from the point on the PP. We need a nice low slapper that can then be tipped by somebody in front of the net. I know Ebert had the hardest shot at the skills comp, but like a fastball in baseball - it's more about placement. Pitchers who have control at 94mph are better than pitchers who throw 100+ but can't control it. I wonder if Ebert took some mustard off it if he could aim it better.
Ebert needs to lose some weight - he looks too bulky. Marchese is in the same boat. I think they've fallen in love with being big and they sacrifice too much agility and speed. Nicklas Kronwall is one of the best hitters in the NHL and is 190lbs. They need to realize they're 17 years old, not 30 yr old pro's who might be their height and carrying 210lbs. Marchese should have a goal to come into camp at 190 lbs, drop 20lbs, and Ebert should shed at least 10lbs himself.

Its all about summer regiment. If Ebert pulls the same crap he did last year then he's in some serious trouble. When the players don't put the work in during the summer, they are already behind the proverbial 8-Ball.

They should certainly score more goals than last year not sure what a good prognostication would be based on that. I could probably agree with you on Clarke and Vail. I hope Maletta can make a big jump but not sure how high. My one concern is when we look at the forwards collectively I can't really say there were a lot of nights where a goaltender stole the show for the opposition. I saw a team that didn't get a lot of good scoring opportunities at least compared to the opposition and they didn't get into good scoring areas. When I see a guy like Vail and some of the goals he had this past year they were pro type shots picking corners he probably should have had more goals but lack of creative players around him didn't allow him those chances.
I am not sure how high I would go with Ho-Sang I think a lot depends on where he plays I imagine he will play wing as you don't let many young guys start right out at center. I want to see what they do in the import draft if it's a D that would change projections for forwards. I think what you need to do is put players in roles where they can excel. I don't think you can put Clarke in as a top 6. Obviously you can put guys like Ho-Sang, Khokhlachev, Rychel, Vail in those type of roles. Not ready to annoint Marchese as a top 6 lots of work to do, Maletta can be but he still has work to do. Maybe Findlay fits that role back to back 50 point seasons on a poor team.
Libbs is correct they need to get more offense from the blueline I am not sure where it will come from of course Ebert but questions abound on who can compliment him. Still a long ways from training camp but a lot of bodies on D to figure that whole mess out.

I agree both players you mention need to take care of themselves. That being said I wouldn't put a number on it. For instance muscle weighs more than fat if Ebert came into camp the same weight but it was muscle and looked good that's fine. If Marchese just lost 20 pounds and didn't gain any muscle he might skate better but wouldn't win any puck battles. A lot depends on the transformation some of these guys take on.
I just don't think Marchese is a power forward type that he might have thought he was coming up. Not too many 6-footers are power forwards and I think he needs to overhaul his whole game if he wants a pro career.
When the Spits called the time out in the third round it's not because they were sniped on Ryan MacInnis, it's because Erie took Sun County's Haden Hodgson with the first pick in the 3rd. Spits had planned on Hodgson and Graeme Brown to be their picks - so when Hodgson went off the board, they had Brown queued up, but then were at a loss as to who to take with the second early 3rd - they ended up taking Ryan Verbeek.
Hodgson wants to play baseball still, and Spits and another OHL team (I think Kitchener) were going to allow it and both have good local baseball programs.
Hey guys and gals, this is my first post so please bare with me. I'm a 41 year old greenskeeper from Wheatley, yes Wheatley, insert joke here________. I have been going to games most of my life and have been a season ticket holder for 5 years in sec 107. That means i've had a good view of the painful decline of Nick Ebert.
Anyways, i was wondering if Erie knew that WR was going to pick Hayden Hodgeson and took him to keep Windsor from getting him? Why would they take a player at that point in the draft when he's already said that he was leaning more towards baseball? Do they think that Windsor will pay them more than an equivalent pick to get him? If he refuses to report to Erie could Windsor than acquire his rights for next to nothing?

Yes they can trade for his rights but not until Aug of 2013
They would not unless they knew he was going to report
With his aforementioned options not sure what happens here

I thought women were the only ones obsessed with size.
Of course, ideally the blueprint for the modern NHL power forward would be Milan Lucic or Zack Kassian. Marchese is listed at 6'-0" and 210 lbs. Yet, Marchese isn't that far off from quite a few rugged wingers with similar dimensions.
James Neal - 6'-2", 210 lbs
Ryan Smyth - 6'-1", 190 lbs
Jarome Iginla - 6'-1", 207 lbs
Tomas Holmstrom - 6'-0", 202 lbs
Gabriel Landeskog - 6'-1", 204 lbs
I don't think size would prevent him from being a pro power forward. I don't think his skill set would hold him back. I think his lack of willingness and desire to go to the dirty areas on a consistent basis holds him back. To overcome that, conditioning would definitely help as well as coaching but most of all, the awareness that he'll need to play a grittier game to make it to the Show.
Rychel was named an assistant captain for the U18 team. I think that kid is going to absolutely rip it up in this tournament. I remember all the talk about him not really being a 1st round pick and it seems ridiculous to think that now. I look at the first round of his draft and there are very few players taken that year who I'd select ahead of him now. People poop on him a bit for being the owners son, but when its all said and done he's going to be one of the better players to ever wear a Spits uniform in my opinion. Bring home the gold kid.

How big were these guys as 17 yr olds. He's also bigger height to weight ratio than anybody you mentioned and not nearly as dynamic. Marchese should be around 190lbs right now.

Not sure where you are going because I would think he's actually a pretty good size for his age. I agree with your questioning of his conditioning. I was just responding to your original comment that seemed to infer that he was too small to become a power forward type in The Show.

Agree completely. Just because of his surname, he's judged by a much tougher standard and to some, will never be accepted for his on ice work. I concur that he'll have one of the best OHL resumes by the time his junior career is done.

He still has a long way to go before being one of the better players to ever wear a Spits uniform. Right now he probably wouldn't even be top 20. Of course he still has 2 years left in the league so he still has time but it's not something easily done.
FYI....for a cpl of your previous draft picks.....

Barber and Sieloff, on the other hand, will stay together as both signing letters of intent in November to play hockey at Miami (Ohio) University for next season.
“I talked to him about going to Miami and he told me how great of a place it was and I finally checked it out and fell in love with it,” Barber said. “We haven’t really talked about living together next year, but we probably will though.”

I enjoy watching hockey at many levels, but have never played, and am a typical hockey mom. So, I don't have a lot of "hockey knowledge" in terms of knowing what makes a great hockey player.
With that in mind, I have an honest question - a lot of people in this forum, and elsewhere (I have several friends/relatives that are long term STH or were billets) have this opinion that Kerby Rychel is not a very good hockey player - some have even made statements that he is a) essentially useless, b) doesn't deserve to be on this team, or at very least play very few minutes c) is vastly overhyped, d) needs to be traded. Given that I don't have a great knowledge of hockey, when I see that he achieved 41 goals this season, was selected for the U-17 team, and the U-18 team while being named an assistant captain, what exactly is the problem with his game? Why is he so easily disparaged?

the lack of playing a team game, ie defensive zone and back checking
he turned hes game into a one zone player
but im giving him the time to come back to the world of hockey and be a good 2 way player
