Habs, Carolina or Winnipeg. 20.5% chance.

Habs is obvious, Winnipeg/Carolina push the Leafs to 6th without affecting us.

We should trade the 1st for a 7th round pick, we aren't good enough to draft a good player.

Thanks. Hopefully, we'll go first. We have enough center depth and we have weak wingers overall.

I think I'm going to vid my computer during the lottery tomorrow. Just to have that moment once they announce Habs position, refresh the page and see if its down haha..

Is it possible for the Habs to get #2 Overall? Or is it just 1st, Third (No Change) or 4th

Twice first, three times third. I'm ok with that.

The draft lottery is only ran once so only one team will get picked and move up 5 slots. The lottery is not about deciding what rank will all teams pick but rather which team will move up to a maximum of 5 slots.

Two teams can win and push the leafs back without hurting our position.

*Remember that only the top 5 teams have a chance at the 1st overall selection, as a team can only move up 4 spots by winning the lottery.

I figured that it would be nice to get some discussion going, as we all know this subject will be taking up much of the discussion over the next 3 days. As soon as the lottery is over, we can take the discussion back to the draft sticky.
Likely some other(s) already have calculated these probabilities but I figured that Montreal has:

1) 14.2% chance of picking first (Montreal wins).

2) 66.7% chance of picking where they are - third (Columbus or Edmonton or any team from Carolina to Calgary winning + Montreal's own pick as an odds against sliding to fourth).

3) 33.3% chance of picking fourth (New York Islanders, Toronto, Anaheim or Minnesota win).

If we'd have Yakupov, a quick fix would be so much easier for the next GM.

In that simulator I got Oilers 5 times out of 9. Columbus once. TB and Carolina once then finally the Habs. I quit at that point. No Leafs tho!

I have the feeling that this is a year that a top 5 team does not win the lottery. I keep thinking Minny or Anaheim will win. If Ducks win, they move to #2 and will definitely take a centre. If Minny wins, they're taking a D, so I'm not too worried about that.

A team can only move up 4 spots.

Not true again. Leafs could be bumped to 6th.

yeah but it's pretty unlikely since those teams number 10 and 9 don't have as many odds as 8-7-6 and 5.
