Thought this was an interesting fight. Ladd doesn't often drop them but he was clearly upset in this situation and we all know that Hedman isn't a fighter. Some might call this a sucker punch but I'll let you guys be the judge of it. I don't think it's something to get upset over personally.
Hedman went at Ladd, Ladd drops gloves, holds up when Hedman doesn't drop gloves and lets him go. Hedman then goes and gets involved again. Ladd angry, grabs Hedman again. Ladd jabs Hedman, Hedman jabs Ladd, Ladd throws real punch.
It's not a sucker punch. Hedman is just an idiot with apparently no concept of what is going to happen when you keep aggravating a guy. If Ladd was really looking to sucker the guy, he'd have murdered him when he initially was all ready to go and Hedman was standing there like an idiot with his gloves still on trying to talk it out.
I have a question. Why are hockey announcers so dumb?
They really made it sound like Ladd just started throwing them over the linesmen which he did but at that point, Hedman can't seriously think Ladd wasn't going to do something. You can't go back into a scrum like that.

It looks more like its ladd that doesnt want to go. Hedman starts shaking his hands showing his ready to drop em and Ladd shakes his head. Then when Hedman is tied up Ladd start fighting.
and before ppl start with the "homer" argument. Im a jets fan.

Ladd dropped them almost immediately. I don't think he cared too much either way but who knows. I wish I knew what was said in that scrum.
Ladd didn't do anything wrong.
Hedman shouldn't have engaged with the Buff/Malone slap and tickle fest, and Ladd let him off the hook at the end of the fight anyway.
Ladd let him off the hook twice, the first time when he let go off Hedman and then at the end. He even took his own helmet off. Interesting fight to say to the least

Ladd already had his gloves off, a grip on Hedman's sweater, and his arm cocked back. I'm pretty sure he was prepared to fight.
That has to be the absolute worst announcing in history. Wheeler was slashed and cross-checked twice by Brewer, and Ladd came in to put an end to it. Nothing wrong with what Ladd did there. Ladd got jumped by three guys.
Hedman had no business going after Buff, no wonder Buff was upset. Hedman even throws a shot at a completely tied up Buff. He had a ref and Malone on him. No business being there.
What the feed doesn't show is Hedman actually threw the first punch on Ladd, the CBC feed showed it. This feed just shows Ladd's first punch, which he had every right to throw.
Hedman had a lot more coming to him, and these have to be the worst homer announcers in history.
I've never seen a more odd perspective on every post in a thread lol.
There is a scrum. Two players keep going in and out and back and forth to each other, after a little while both drops the gloves and a few punches are thrown. Maybe a few even connects.
The big deal is a lot of people (announcers, refs, and people "elsewhere" on this board) were commenting on how Ladd started the scrum with the cross-check, then picked on Hedman. The truth is the complete opposite.

Have anyone said anything about a "sucker punch"?
The TBL announcers were sure ripping into Ladd in the YT video. Yes they said he sucker punched Hedman multiple times. If you follow the CBC link, you can clearly see it's not a sucker punch and Hedman threw the first punch (with his visor equipped helmet still on).
Wheeler and Brewer got slashing penalties. Didn't see the Wheeler slash, but I'll give the benefit of the doubt. Ladd and Hedman both got 5 minute majors and a misconduct for fighting. Plus Ladd got 2 for roughing. It should've been Hedman 2 for roughing.
Clearly TBL wasn't that upset about Ladd fighting Hedman because nothing happened a week later.
