What was the assessment of Brock in his AHL debut?

After all of the penny pinching and all of the mismanagement, why would you give Wang the benefit of the doubt here?

Nelson's bonus structure is almost $2 million higher than the players who were drafted around him. That's not because his agent drives a hard bargain. It's because Wang wants to save almost $2 million against the cap floor.

This may be true to some extent, but looking at Strome's bonuses, they are about half as much as Nino's or Nelson's even though he was 5th overall. Hard to figure why Strome would agree to such lesser terms, but it would have been easy for Wang to pad the bonus structure, but he didn't. Not that I would put anything past Wang, of course.

is it possible that Wang and Snow would rather spend $2mil enticing a top-rated prospect, rather than spending it on a geriatric goalie? or a decrepid defenceman? or a finished forward?

Why are those our only options? The problem with the Isles is that they're limiting themselves to bargain basement prospects and geezers.

Spend the money on someone who can actually help win games! I'm not saying that we should be trying to acquire big money guys or empty the system. Go after guys like Versteeg (traded for a 2nd and a 3rd,) Liles (traded for a second rounder,) or Troy Brouwer (traded for a late first.) We have plenty of prospect depth, now let's use it (and some picks) to actually put together a competitive team!

The Isles problem is that they aren't really rebuilding. That word implies that they are building something. They are keeping costs as low as possible, and running out the clock to 2015.

Welp, it's because they're NOT actually spending that money.

Not unless Nelson comes in and earns/hits those bonuses. That theoretical dough only counts against the cap, but isn't yet money spent.

This is what everyone needs to keep in mind when analyzing any and every move this team makes ... or does not make.

It is the core train of thought.
