With his improvement this season, do any of you think the Leafs will sign Flaake to an ELC and bring him over this summer? Does he have NHL potential still?
What happened to David Wolf? Is he injured or does Koelliker not deem him good enough? I figured he would be a lock alongside Flaake, given their chemistry, especially with so many players missing due to the playoffs.
I think I read somewhere that they can change the roster after each stage, so he might have just asked for some rest and will be included on the roster against Denmark or the Czech Republic. I don't think he is injured.

He is the kid to watch. The top prospect on the team. Best prospect since Rieder and Kühnhackl.
Isn't Draisaitl a late birthday and thus eligible for 2014?
For 2012:
I would also add Patrick Klöpper and maybe Sven Ziegler to the list, although especially Ziegler seems a bit of a stretch. I am a bit surprised, that Artem Klein isn't on the roster.
For 2013:
I would take a look at Dominik Kahun, Frederik Tiffels and maybe Markus Eisenschmid.
I really wish I could watch the tournament, which most likely won't be able to.

Good find. I didn't even notice how late his birthday was. He is 2014 eligible.
Yesterday the U18-team played an exhibithion game against Japan U18 and won 9-4.
Draisaitl (2g 1a) and Kahun (1g 2a) had 3 points each. Hereafter all scorers for the German team:
Deutschland – Japan 9:4 (4:1, 5:2, 0:1)
Tore:
1:0 Leon Draisaitl (Überzahl-Tor 2) (Dominik Kahun, Markus Eisenschmid) 3:41
2:0 Sven Ziegler (Raphael Kaefer, Kai Herpich) 13:10
3:0 Benjamin Zientek (Patrick Klöpper) 13:51
4:1 Dominik Kahun (Leon Draisaitl) 17:55
5:2 Eric Stephan (Marcel Kurth, Lennart Palausch) 3:12
6:2 Lukas Laub (Patrick Klöpper) 5:32
7:2 Leon Draisaitl (Überzahl-Tor) (Dominik Kahun, Eric Stephan) 7:48
8:2 Raphael Kaefer (Penaltyschuss) 9:17
9:2 Nicolai Quinlan (Frederik Tiffels) 12:09
Good to see Draisaitl and Kahun are playing together. Should bring the main scoring for Germany all tournament. Giving up 4 goals against Japan is a little concerning though.

they always give up goals against japan. that's a tradition.
but i think it's simply not a good team or at least not as good as it was in the past. germany always used older guys in the past for tournaments, but look how many underager they have this year. and those 95ers are probably already the better ones.
they will have a hard time trying to avoid relegation this year IMO.

Well I guess with the way they were scoring they didn't really feel the need to play defense. And I doubt that will change when they play again tonight. I guess the last test before the tornament against Canada will be better indicator than the games versus Japan.
But as far as the tournament goes, Cüpper needs to stand on his head for this team not to be relegated.
I guess it's going to be the same old story, when they play in the top division the team is mediocre at best and when they actually do have a good team, they play division 1.

yep, somehow they always dress their best teams when they play D1. bad timing for sure.
goaltending is as usual not a problem. i think either goalie is good enough. i probably wouldn't even use cüpper as #1. although he's almost 2 years younger, reich had an impressive DNL season. in the player of the year voting, reich was best goalie at #5, klein was #12 and cüpper not even top20.
so i hope it will be a real competition for #1 and not again politics or whatever usually dominates the nomination process.

Since this is a GERMAN team, they probably go with experience, and Cüpper has more than either Reich or Klein. On the other hand this is such an unusually young team that maybe there will be a new approach this year.

Thorsten Ankert - Injury
Since Buffalo didn't make the playoffs are Sulzer and Ehrhoff going to play? They played great together down the stretch for the Sabres and they could likely continue that play in the WC if they decide to go. Not much help from North America yet though.
Sulzer isn't coming, for the same personal reasons that led to him missing the last few games for Buffalo. Ehrhoff depends on his health, isn't decided yet.
