Tim Thomas abstains visiting the White House (Part 2)
Honestly, the whole "disrespecting" the President's office stuff is pretty much complete B.S. that gets talked about selectively whenever it suits people. It's a political office, how can you argue for democracy if you act like it's His Royal Highness The President. There's far too much glamour attached to the position and then people complain about the concept of the "imperial Presidency" (funny how that complaint died literally the moment Bush left office and Obama came in though).
In reality, the President is more like the Prime Minister, not the monarch. You can snub a PM, you can yell at him, talk smack about him. He's just a citizen like any other one. What, are you supposed to be on your knees for the President, kissing his ring?
Giving so much weight to protocol, to the ceremonial importance of an institution such as the Presidency, that's ironically crusty archaic conservatism and something free-thinkers would be against.
I don't understand why Tim Thomas didn't just show up to the White House in a Revolutionary War costume and a misspelled sign comparing Obama to Hitler like the teabaggers usually do.

What a clownish post. No one's asking the guy to bow down to the president. All he had to do was go with his teammates and say hi. If Thomas had such a problem with Obama's policies, why not go and talk to him about it?
It's a sign of respect. Am I allowed to burn the American flag? Am I allowed to sit while the national anthem plays? I'm sure you'd probably have a problem with that.
The guy's a tea partyer and a Glenn Beck fan. Tells me all I need to know about him.
The Obama presidency is exposing a lot of people, that's for sure.

The President is also the elected head of state and the Commander-in-Chief. A fundamental level of respect is always appropriate.
Free citizens have the right to protest the President, mock him, complain about him, or whatever. But when they receive an official summons to the White House -- even though they're not legally obligated to respond -- it's a matter of basic good citizenship to show respect for the office of the President.
I am a huge Tim Thomas fan, and I respect his right to make his own decision because I believe his intentions were in the right place, but I think he was misguided in how he handled this situation.

The irony in this post is AWESOME!
How come nobody crys foul when (pick your smart ass comedian or entertainer) goes off on a derogatory rant about Bush?
Seriously? Some clown can get his own show on which he does pretty much nothing but disrespect the clown in the Oval Office and that's ok?

It's awfully strange how some people get all bent out of shape about others "desecrating the flag" as well. After all, it's just a chunk of cloth.

I dont think it's strange. I don't think i'd get too bent out of shape about it but I understand why people get so upset by it and acknowledge that it's fairly natural for them to do so.

I love Thomas the goaltender. Thomas the person is getting annoying. Now, he has the right to not address it, but shutting down the entire interview comes across as petulant.
A DC website or magazine or something is apparently trying to encourage fans to bring Obama masks/cardboard heads to the game tonight and get "yes we can!" chants going. This has the potential to be a lot of fun.

If I were Thomas, I wouldn't be too upset about it. After all, he's got a lot more to show for his last four years of employment than Obama does.
And Obama won the Frikkin' Presidency through hard work and talent, dude.
The only thing Obama is good at doing is filling out NCAA Basketball Brackets. Well, at least the mens bracket anyway. A shame that such a man who claims to support women, their achivements and support the idea that women are equal to men doesn't bother to fill out a Womens basketball bracket.
Then again, whatelse can you expect from a man who prefers his wife to be a housewife mooching off the taxpayers?

1. He does do a women's bracket, and IDK about you, but I make my brackets in 30 min, anybody can do one.
2. Michelle Obama does a lot of stuff, I fear she puts too much emphasis on body image instead of health, but she is doing that exercise stuff.
If you want to talk about a glorified housewife, Nancy Reagan and Laura Bush are the best places to look.
