The playoffs are here and the boards will be a lot more active. With that in mind, its a good time for everyone to consider good posting habits when the stakes are so much higher. Here are some examples of what I mean:
Don't go trolling other teams boards. In the middle of a game, a relatively innocent post could be construed as trolling if its poorly timed, so please be mindful of this.
Bringing quoted posts from other team's forums is also considered trolling.
Wishing or condoning injury is not allowed (its either trolling or offensive).
Its a good idea to just step away from the keyboard when tensions are really high, because everyone has a point where they just don't care anymore and post stuff they otherwise would not. GIve yourself a break before it comes to that.
Report posts that break the rules and dont repond to them. Partly so that the mods don't have to clean up a giant sized mss instead of a couple of posts, but also because we can easily miss troublesome posts if they are not reported.
Bashing a fanbase is not allowed, even on your own team's forum. You can hate on the team (within reason) but you can't refer to all fans of a team as morons, idiots, etc. It will not fly.
A much better and more detailed thread with the same message and a bit more explanation can be found here (on the hopefully unobtrusive Sharks forum) : http://hfboards.hockeysfuture.com/sh....php?t=1160395. It includes stuff like "how to report a post" and other tidbits I left out.
Here's a few more rmmeinders based on what I've seen so far.
If you don't want to participate in a thread, feel free not to. Or ignore it, because you have that option. WHat's not an acceptabel option is repeated "close this thread" or "thread should be locked" posts. That's called playing moderator" and its against the site rules. Report threads that are against the rules and let the moderators decide.
Offensive posts are not welcome. Don't bypass the swear filter. Don't use terms like "gay", "retarded", "ball washing" or any creating oral sex or masturbation euphemisms because they are offensive and I am not interested in having a protracted discussion about why with anybody. Some of you might be shocked to get a warning or infraction for it next time up. Please control yourselves.
Ignore posters who piss you off, but don't talk about it on the forums because its not allowed. As a moderator, I don't have the luxury of ignoring anybody. Excercise that right if you find yourself wanting to flame someone and you will enjoy yourselves much more.
If anybody has qustions about what's OK and what's not, or wonders why something was handled the way it was, please PM a moderator. Don't post about it in the forums, because that's not how its done.
