I completely agree. As for Bay, I have no faith what-so-ever in his hitting ability, he even looks shaky in left field. I just don't understand how a player can change so much, a perennial 30-100 player in Boston and now he can't do **** with the Mets.

Why shouldn't we buy into the pitching? Santana is coming off shoulder surgery, i get it, but with his talent, with his high baseball IQ, and his other intangibles, I see him a consistent pitcher with 15-20 wins. Dickey and Niese we've already talked about, Dickey of course is a solid #2 pitcher and Niese has the stuff to be a #2 pitcher. Pelf is ? for sure, but if he can limit his bad innings to a run or 2 and keep the run total to 5 or less a game, they'll get wins with him (like last night). Gee won 13 games last season, there is no reason he can't improve. Obviously any injuries will devastate the rotation (especially santana) - perhaps that's what you are implying? Or do you not think the talent is there?

Two straight losses, scoring only 2 runs in those two games.

These are the Mets I know!

Wow shocked the Mets came back and won this game! Swept the Marlins.. Four straight walks by Heath Bell to tie game and Cap'n Kirk with a walk off.

With the way Kirk is playing so far this guy should be sticking with the big club for a while.

Definitely agree, he has earned the right to be here for awhile.

Nice start to a season which started with low expectations. I won't get my hopes up too high but it is nice to see they have actually come back in a few games now to win in the late innings.

I was at the game today and these were my thoughts:

Miami
- The Marlins have no effort. They are terrible defensively and the ones who got their money are there for only the money. Bell was ABSOLUTELY terrible and we could see it on the mound. Hanley and Reyes don't even look like they're trying.
- Mike Stanton had a significant chance to grab the game winning hit. However, he is lazy and is one of the terrible defenders on this team.
- I'm impressed by that catcher Brett Hayes. He reminds me of Jason Kendell due to the fact that he is smart, clutch, and can steal bases.
- The fans really don't like Reyes after reiterrating he didn't recieve an offer. The upper sections showed displeasure towards him while the lower sections applauded. One guy was saying (to the tune of Jose, jose, jose, jose), "You suck, you suck, you suck, you suck!"

Mets
- Niese is the best pitcher on this team right now. I saw him walk back to the dugout kicking himself but he calmed down and took control of the game again.
- Captain Kirk is LEGIT. He is aggressive and makes a great leadoff man (on a side not I'm thinking about getting the classic road jersey with "Captain Kirk" on the back of it )
- My prediction is Ike Davis is going to be optioned within a month if he keeps this up. The only thing helping his cause is his defense.

In my opinion, the Mets, Braves and Nationals will battle for first place. The Mets are very good in their division so far and have only had trouble with the Nationals. The Braves are ahead of the Mets right now but if they can't win against the Mets, it will cause a problem during the season. The Phillies have regressed even though they are winning in Arizona and the Marlins well.....suck.

Hopes to a good season!

Something has to start happening with Ike soon.. If he keeps this up a stint in AAA will become a serious possibility.

As for pelfrey who knows what his future holds. He's probably better off being non tendered and setting up shop else where, but I don't care what anyone says yes he's a complete headcase but he has talent, last year was bad but hell two years ago he had ten wins at the allstar break with a ridiculous era. Guy needs to start going back to his sinker its what made him a good pitcher. Really depends on mets financial situation whether hes back or not cause for a $4-5 mil one year deal for a 3-4 starter who will go out there and give you 200+ innings is enticing.

Yeah, I am really liking Kirk...A LOT! I certainly though he had talent, but now I can't see the Mets playing with out him.

Mets Dressup for their trip to Texas

They plan on doing a hockey theme for when they play the Blue Jays.

Swept by the Astros... OUCH.

Niese had an awful game but he has been good to start the season and I'd really rather not see this Schwinden guy pitch another game for us please.

Who knows how Santana will hold up

Dickey is a sure thing

I like Niese a lot. I view him more as a #3 then a #2. But regardless of his talent level, let's see Niese start 33 games and pitch 200+ innings. Something he's yet to do.

Pelfrey is done for the year...his spot is very shakey right now. Schwinden has had 2 stinkers and I doubt they're going to bring up Harvey, or rush Mejia back from his injury. Other prospects simply aren't even close to being ready. Our best hope is that Chris Young can hold down the fort. But he's at least another month away.

I like Gee, but is he anything more than a #4/5 pitcher in this league?

Unless Santana is an ace again & Niese pitches like a true front line starter, then this is not a very good rotation. It's average at best.

Pretty much this pitching staff is going to be on watch all season long. It's pretty clear the depth beyond the rotation is pretty awful and even when/if Chris Young gets back he's still a big ? given his injury history and having been quite a long time since he's put a string of starts together without his arm falling off.

Santana has looked like Johan (minus that one start) but there's no way you can guarantee he's going to last all season, I hope he does but who knows.

Dickey is the most reliable person in the rotation.

Niese has been good. Had a rough outing yesterday but he's definitely a solid #3 pitcher but like Isles Junkie said he needs to pitch a full season this year and pick up some of the innings Pelfrey's injury leaves behind.

Gee is decent as a #4, sometimes he looks like he's about to implode but works thru it, I've still yet to figure him out.

And our fifth spot makes me cringe right now.

Thanks for the 17 years, Mo. There will never be another like you. Back to the very harsh reality of what will most likely be a revolving door or closers.

"I'm coming back," Rivera said Friday afternoon. "Write it down in big letters. I'm not going down like this."
Rivera, emotional and wiping away tears here late Thursday after receiving the diagnosis, was in far better spirits Friday, talking for just over 15 minutes to a large group of reporters. The 42-year-old closer said he reached the decision in his hotel room late Thursday.
"I can't go down like this," he said. "If it takes two, three, four, five, seven months, whatever it takes."
