Yes, thats very true. Lets also take into account Jan 2 through Jan 12 was a period of 6 games in an 11 game road trip extended from december, which took them all over the US in 22days. which means twords they end of that, they were prob starting to get tired. A team Captian had not been named until aprox. mid feb. and they were playing without him the whole time. Their proclaimed #1 goalie had missed 17 games due to groin in January. Joni Pitkanen was out of the line up due to injury, which IMO this year he has been their best Defensman. IM perty sure desjardins was out in that period. Forsberg was out with a pulled groin for a few weeks, then Gagne right after him....and so on. Anyway, i think your getting the Idea. Its when people started coming back from injury that things couldnt be figured out because Philly has played like 2 weeks total this season with a 95% healthy roster. Dont forget we lost stevenson for a couple months due to a hip flexor. and Sami Kapanen sat out about the whole first half of the season due to shoulder injury which occured a moth before the season started. They are in a slump undoubtedly, but they can play through injuries.

Yes, but that was sooooo long ago. All that matters is that the Flyers got their head handed to them last night! Wonder where the "Flyer Rebuilders" were when Philly defeated NYR a month+ back at MSG? Wonder if those same panickers are aware that there is more than a month until the post-season? Wonder if they are aware that trends in March often mean little come April.

Guess if NJD should defeat NYR on Saturday, best that Sather starts planning for next season...or vice versa should NYR win. And so on.

If only the path to the Conference Championship were so easy, what with players, coaches and GMs laying down their swords like over-reactive fans do.

I'm awaiting Foppa's reaction when the strategy espoused on this thread is given to him by Hitchcock:

"We appreciate you going through excruciating therapy to get yourself back on the ice Peter...And as a show of our appreciation and our faith in you and the team, we're going to look to rebuild, starting today."

Flyers fans have seen this team slip into and stay in a funk since the last couple games of that road trip. This isn't a new thing that just because we got blown out last night we want to sell everything off. I don't want to totally scrap this season by selling off veterans, but we've seen this coming (because it's been here) for 2 months already.

he's spent a fair amount of time playing with the likes of Somik, Brashear, and Radio in Philly and still manged to put up decent assist totals. man i wish Radio would start to finish...

anyway... wouldn't dismiss Handzus offensively so quickly.
I didn't mean to dismiss his offense so quickly. I'm well aware of what he's capable of, I'm just saying that pairing him with Marleau as a left winger would seem kind of odd. His best role is a defensive centre who is great on face-offs but that's not to say he can't put up numbers on the counter-attack or be useful as a set-up guy on the PP (but with Thornton, San Jose doesn't need that particular aspect).

I know we are making the playoffs, and I know we have a slim chance of winning, so dont get all upset. What are your offers on some of the Flyers players at the deadline? Realistic proposals, assume pretty much anyone over age 28 is available.

How much further do you want to rebuild? Half the team are rookies.

The team has struggled for a month, and during all of that time they'ev been without key players, who should all be healthy by this time next week, save for Johnsson.

In 2003-04 the team won just 3 of 18 games from mid-december to mid January ... and that team was a bounce or two away from the Stanley Cup Finals just a few months later.

it's also a completely different team. Not only now, but also in those playoffs.

He's an above average 2nd liner, who has been blessed with good linemates for a couple of seasons, a good comparison would be Morrison in Vancouver, a fine player but with inflated stats due to elite linemates.

(Knuble is the 13th highest scoring RW in the league, got more points then Iginla, Doan, St. Louis and Hejduk for example.)

Crazy playoff squad it was, deep as hell.

03/04 Playoff Squad:
Tony Amonte - Alexei Zhamnov - Jeremy Roenick
John LeClair - Michal Handzus - Mark Recchi
Simon Gagne - Keith Primeau - Sami Kapanen
Donald Brashear - Patrick Sharp - Branko Radivojevic
Radovan Somik

Danil Markov -
Vladimir Malakhov
Kim Johnsson - Eric Desjardins
Joni Pitkanen - Marcus Ragnarsson
Mattias Timander

Robert Esche

Sean Burke

05/06 Speculation:
Gagne - Forsberg -
Knuble/Trade
Nedved - Carter - Knuble/Trade
Kapanen - Handzus - Stevenson
Brashear - Richards - Radivojevic
Savage

Johnsson -
Hatcher
Pitkanen - Rathje
Desjardins - Trade
Meyer

Niittymaki
Esche
