Should be interesting to hear the questions Mikey asks him.

Mike called today "Hockey Day" on WFAN.

He'll also have Bettman and Pierre on as well.

Rangers Rangers Rangers!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry guys...3:00 pm

I'm at my desk with Francessa on the TV...I'm the only guy from NYC, but beause I'm the highest ranking, I get to dictate what's on TV.

Only good thing about being stationed at Fort Drum. I get YES, SNY, MSG, MSG+ and CBC on basic cable.

These rednecks and hicks I work with hated sports three months ago. Now they all watch Boomer and Carton and Francessa.

Sometimes, being in the Army isnt too bad.

Remember this episode about three weeks back?

Caller: You said the AL East was the toughest division. Well, you were wrong. The NHL Atlantic Division is the best.

Francessa: No. I said the AL East was the best in pro sports. Hockey doesn't count.

Not verbatim but you get the point.

What I love is, baseball is the biggest joke of a sport. It involves the least physical activity and is the slowest paced thing you'll ever watch. Yet Hockey is not a "pro sport", but baseball is.

I got the exact quote from Katie Baker (Grantland)'s article a few weeks back. I couldn't find the video clip.

Quote:
What We Know: The other day, a brave caller dialed up Mike Francesa with a bone to pick. "You say the AL East is the best division in sports," he began, "but the NHL's Atlantic division ." The man had a point: Four of the Eastern Conference's top six teams are from the Atlantic, and it would be four of the top five were Florida not automatically seeded third. But he didn't get to say that, because Francesa cut him off a few seconds after the word hockey. "When I say 'in sports,' he said, sounding almost exhausted to have to explain this, "I'm not including hockey. You want me to say that? I can say that next time, that I'm not including hockey."

In 1994, he was all over the bandwagon.

Francessa used to host "Live at the Play by Play" with Jennifer Something. After every Rangers and Knicks game at MSG, they would have guests.

He likes hockey. He's just a business man, and he knows that Jets/Knicks and baseball makes him the money and gets him the listeners.

Mike will care about hockey when the Rangers become the hot story. In 1994, there was no other story. The Jets and Giants stunk. The Mets stunk. The Yankees were great but on the verge of a strike. It was all Knicks and Rangers.

It's sad (in a way) that all the important New York teams are either very good or up and coming.

Not that I think baseball is good, just that hitting a baseball is the hardest thing to do in sports. I respect that sport for that alone, nothing else.

Don't get me wrong, that **** is hard, and pitching a ball as fast as they do and curving that thing, takes skill and talent. But I see baseball as an activity, not a sport. Not enough physical movement.

Guys WFAN 1500 is the alternate reality where Fatcessa is infact a skinny version of himself who is extremely knowledgeable about the Rangers and has a hard on for the Jets.

hitting a baseball is the hardest thing?

the number of athletes that can skate at the level an nhler has to, that can shoot the puck, pass the puck, see the ice, etc that an NHLer has to? not to mention stop shots that goalies have to.

hockey is the hardest sport, BY FAR to play. theres a reason so few ppl watch it, its because so few ppl can actually play it. baseball and foot ball are so popular because anyone can play it as a kid. it takes a special athlete to even play beer level hockey due to the demanding nature of the sport.

They both take skill.

Squaring up a round ball, with a slim piece of wood, that's coming at you in less than a second, is EXTREMELY difficult.

Also you don't have much time to decipher whether it's a strike or ball.

You know how good ones hand eye coordination and bat speed has to be to do that?

I love hockey but that is not equivalent to skating (you can learn how to skate) and hitting a piece of rubber that is sitting there for you to hit.

Now, I do think playing goaltender is one of the hardest things to do in sports.

The only thing I think he was sounding like one when he said Lundqvist wasnt at fault for the playoff failures.

He was just as responsible as anyone else. When a team blows a 3-1 series lead in any sport, everybody needs to shoulder the blame.
