BC left winger Barry Almeida joining Hershey according to various tweets. Small but quick and hard-working. He really broke out this season in a larger role as a senior. Nothing official but it doesn't sound like it's an NHL deal. Hopefully it's similar to the ATO+AHL deals signed by Syner/Civitarese. Syner is his cousin.
Anyone can give some information on Verreault-Paul? Ice time? How he look on ice? I might have 4th line time but just want to know if he got the speed and greety to stay in AHL next season.

In the two games I saw him play over the weekend he impressed me with his game. He was very quick, made good decisions, used his stick to break up passing lanes very well, and he even showed a bit of a scrappier side by giving gives shoves. He got a fair amount of ice time and he probably would have gotten more if it wasn't for Hershey trailing early in both games. Hershey's coach Mark French likes to give his top two lines a lot more ice time when Hershey is trailing. Overall though I thought he played well and I think he could contribute to a team in the AHL next season
“They’ve (the Capitals) thoroughly scouted him throughout his college career,” said Almeida’s agent, Matt Keator of Wellesley, who also represents Syner. “They like Barry’s tenacity, and the fact he can play on all four lines.”
The interest in Almeida and Syner had a common theme.
“The Capitals are trying to increase the speed within their system, and Syner and Almeida do that,” Keator said. ”And knowing each other so well, T.J. and Barry provide a lot of chemistry.”
It's still wait and see whether Almeida signed a Caps or Bears contract. Based on all reports, joining Bears on an ATO, and he will join them them early next week. That writer had an article on Syner with quotes from Keator with mis-information about Syner's contract before it was officially announced to be a Hershey contract. From some of the tweets and reports sounds like it could be a Caps ELC, but also possible it's a Bears contract like Syner's and Civitarese's are for next year. Would be nice if they'd just announce something officially.
Two more games to go before the regular season ends, but Hershey will play a best of five first round series against WBS. WBS with higher seed, reports are games 1 and 2 are next Fri/Sat at WBS.
Civitarese scored his first pro goal and Verreault-Paul with his first point tonight in Hershey's 6-4 loss at Portland. link Mink returned to the line-up and Marshall and Kane played, too. Kolzig was at the game.
SC lost game 1 of the best of 7 series against Kalamazoo. link Caps Director of player development, Steve Richmond, was at the game in Kalamazoo.

Hershey update: Last regular game of the season at 3 today at Worcester; Barry Almeida is playing first pro game today for Hershey on an ATO; per Stuccio, Rechlicz suspended 2 games for an accumulation of misconducts.
Not looking good for the Bears so far. Down 2 to Wilkes Barre and going back to Hershey in the best of five series. Sabourin letting in 7 on Saturday, ouch.
I see Schilling played in game 1 but didn't get a jersey for game 2, anyone know why.
Finally, if Hershey wins on Wednesday and Caps lose, I assume that means Holtby, Orlov and Aucoin could play for Hershey come Friday night?

Schilling made a lot of mistakes in game one. Didn't play well at all from what I watched. Overall the Bears have been bad. Not having Aucoin, Hanson, and Holtby doesnt help and McFlicker and Mink just returned from long injuries. The odds do not favore the Bears too well

Sorry to hear that as I had tentative plans to travel up there for Friday nights game which may or may not happen.

If I were to guess, I would say that a Friday game could happen. With all the veterans in the lineup to lead the team, I can't see the team being swept. Although the baby pens do add more bodies to the lineup with Pittsburgh being eliminated.
Not much to add; have the same view regarding the veterans, but I assumed that would help in game 2. Hopefully the long break between games 2 and 3 is a benefit to the Bears with the guys returning from injury and others playing through injury. I was surprised to see Brouillette scratched for game 1, so I assumed that was due to injury; he was back for game 2. Wellar, as expected given his actions in game 2, is suspended for game 3. Not a fan of best of 5 series, but hopefully the Bears can pull this one out.
WBS got Strait, Despres and Tangradi back for Wed. night. Yes, if things don't go well for the Caps and the Bears win tomorrow, Holtby, Aucoin (via waivers, UFA this summer), and Orlov are the three on the CDR.

So you are saying that some team can claim him now? I thought there were no waivers in the playoffs, but if that was the case wouldn't it be crazy if Pittsburgh claimed him in order to not let him play for Hershey

No team can play a player in the playoffs if claimed via waivers after the trade deadline, but the waiver rules are still in effect. If the Caps lose and the Bears win, yes he would have to clear waivers and no I don't expect any team to claim him and expect he would be sent down. A few players have been on re-entry waivers during the playoffs, Flyers recalled Bartulis and Leighton via re-entry; STL recalled Syvret via re-entry.

Thank you must be too much NHL 12 going to my head . Hopefully the Caps don't lose as I think the Caps are built for a longer run then the Bears are. My prediction is that the OKC Barons (Oilers farm team for those that don't know) will win the cup. Helmer is their captain and the team reminds me a lot of the back to back Hershey Calder Cup teams. Good all around team and good mix of prospects and veterans.
Judging by fannies in seats compared to the announced attendance of 9414, a LOT of people took the same path.
Very lightly attended tonight too.
Schilling is pretty fun to watch. Seems to be decent in the offensive zone and better in his own. His size is great and he is knocking people around a bit. You don't see that to often from a player right out of college.
The Bears won tonight 4-1. Goals by Kane (2), Schilling, and Bourque (EN). Forced a game 5 in WBS tomorrow night at 7 I believe. The Bears have completely done a 180 and are looking like a completely new team. If they play the way they did tonight they could make a deep run.
Schilling has looked very very good and has held his own ever since his first game. Great pick up by GMGM and a great prospect down the road.
@peterhassett: The Hershey Bears and Washington Capitals signed a one-year extension of their affiliation over one year ago. No agreement for '12-'13 yet.
Some Twitter talk that a move to Norfolk could be a possibility. As good as Hershey has been from a competitiveness and market standpoint, more of a developmental bent to the affiliate would not be a bad thing. Of course, a good portion of that hasn't been Hershey's fault but Washington's.
Hershey lost 2-1 to WBS in pivotal Game 5. Season over.
God, that sucked. The Bears played the Pens even but two goals, one a pure fluke, in 7 seconds, and it's done. A lot of it had to do with the fact that we couldn't score (and didn't really get a lot of quality shots off), but that 7 seconds is gonna bug me for the better part of the summer.

I have no issues with the current way Hershey and Washington develop players. I can't imagine them doing a better job with defenseman and goalies. Hopefully, they can come to an agreement with Hershey.
And Norfolk is a lot farther from the other teams than Hershey is, which means a lot of long bus rides.
