He wasn't...but the point still stands. Boyle can't be matched up against fast lines...although its all a moot point, as Torts will still try it over and over again.

with torts being somewhat old school in regards to lineups and ice time, i wouldnt be surprised to see kreider in the press box for game 1 at least, hes not going to get a spot he didnt earn and although mitchell BLOWS and kreider is 10 times better, mitchell was part of the team that wont the east and thats an extra plus for him staying in the lineup, however once torts see's his speed and the potential for him to be a spark plug like hagelin was early on i think its going to be hard for him to keep this kid off the ice.

also i remember reading something about kreider practicing with the team or being at the facility a while back, if true then torts has already seen the kid first hand, that could help.

Any speculation that the Rangers won't burn a year off his ELC just to have him sit is pure conjecture. If the team doesn't feel he's ready, he won't play.

Truthfully, unless he is a special talent, he's going to need practice time before he can even play within the system. There is no reason to sit a player who Torts knows & trusts like Mitchell until Kreider is able to learn where he needs to go and what he needs to do. Otherwise the system doesn't work.

Until Kreider can be trusted by his coach & teammates to pick up the correct assignments on defense, to play on & off the puck correctly, he's not going to play.

That might not be until next season.

And that's ok.

1 - Kreider has no clue what the NHL is like, let alone playoffs.
2 - He did not have a training camp, does not know the system.
It will do him a lot of good to sit, watch and learn. Maybe chip in when somebody is hurt.
I would rather have Mitchell than Kreider at this point. Next season is a different story.

It wasn't intentional, but Kreider driving to the net scoring a goal, Stepan hurt himself trying to stop him and slid into the boards.

If my memory is correct.

I'd like to see Kreider get some ice time in the playoffs. I know some arguing to send him to the Whale but I disagree. This is a 20 year old 230 lbs man who just won an NCAA championship, I think he'll be ok.

Once he shows up to practice you burn a whole year on his contract, why do that and spend all that money to have him sit in the press box?

On the other hand, I don't see him as the savior of Ranger's hockey, at least not right away. I think he could have impact on the power play but I am not expecting instant results. Certainly he's a better than Scott, Rupp, Mitchell etc.

Brian Boyle is the only BC player taken in the 1st round to stay all 4 years in school

I saved this when Kreider was drafted in 2009. 3 years for Kreider. Schneider,Orpik,Reasoner and Eaves are the other 3 year BC players.

http://www.bcinterruption.com/2009/0...try-draft.html

Kevin Hayes is the latest 1st round pick from 2010. He might turn pro this summer. He might stay for his junior year.

Can somebody clear up the confusion:

Christopher Botta:
Quote:
Kreider, who turns 21 on April 30, will join the Rangers for practice Wednesday morning. Whether he plays for them during the playoffs is uncertain. If Kreider plays even one game in the postseason, there will be only two years left on his contract.
Andrew Gross:
Quote:
Kreider will join the Rangers for practice tomorrow. By doing so, he’ll automatically burn up the first year of his three-year entry deal regardless of whether he plays in the playoffs.

Gotta love Devils fans questioning the Rangers' decision to sign Kreider and calling it idiotic.

Sorry, but I just couldnt help but notice that their 5 post-lockout 1st rounders scored a whopping 5 combined NHL goals in 2012.

I agree that Torts will handle things this way, an that it is the right move.

I think it shows the Rangers are going for it this yr. Fact is if someone went down who was going to step in? Scott or a call up like Newbury, Wellman?...........Kreider is a risk but with Zuccarello hurt it could pay off

burning a yr off the Entry level deal is risky as he may get a big raise sooner. He would also be a RFA when Gabby is a UFA right?

I also agree Torts wont throw him right into the lineup. He will practice, learn and if they have issues on the PP he will be inserted

Even if he isn't used frequently, you would hope that his signing would light some fire under some *****.

We can all agree this is a great environment for young prospects. Coaching staff that really pushes the players to give 100% on the ice, terrific role model of a captain in Ryan Callahan who sets the tone and sets an example out on the ice, and a young core of players with a few veterans sprinkled in, all of which have bought into a team identity of hard work and playing for each other out on the ice.... Could not ask for a better atmosphere to be integrating young, promising prospects into the line-up.

good pt. It will get guys attention for sure.

I know we are thinking about this yr but next yr I see this F group almost identical . Only change is Feds gone as a UFA. Resign Prust and Mitchell to spare. Maybe sign Parise but if he goes elsewhere go with this group

Kreider, Richards, Gaborik
Hagelin, Stepan, Callahan
Dubinsky, Anisimov, Zuccarello
Rupp, Boyle, Prust
Mitchell

Feeling like a proud papa today? Like I've said before, you were the first Ranger fan/poster on this board who keyed me into Kreider before the 2009 draft. You, SM and I were the first posters to target him for the 2009 draft. Been a long time coming.

Think we need another legit top 6 forward. Also don't think Zucc is back with us next year.

I think if the Devils make it anywhere besides the ECF Parise will leave. Why relocate far or settle for a bad team when the Rangers have the money and pieces on the team to give him not only a top notch salary but also what every athlete wants - a legitimate chance to win it all.

Parise-Richards-Gaborik
Dubinsky-Anisimov-Callahan
Kreider-Stepan-Hagelin
Rupp-Boyle-Prust

On my phone so can't copy and paste, but that BC Blog is now saying NYR has a car waiting to drive him to NYC tonight. They aren't waiting until tomorrow.

Haha in a weird way maybe, thanks for remembering and I know you were right there too. One of my college buddies went to Andover and clued me in, dragged me to a game. It's really cool to see a kid work so hard and come so far.
