Agent: PA Parenteau and Isles to Begin Talks

Islanders, P.A. Parenteau to talk
Updated: April 10, 2012, 12:05 PM ET
By Katie Strang | ESPNNewYork.com

Contract discussions are expected to resume between P.A. Parenteau and the New York Islanders, his agent confirmed to ESPNNewYork.com

Parenteau is set to become an unrestricted free agent July 1, and with a career-high 67 points this season, the 29-year-old winger is in line for a significant pay raise from the $1.25 million he made this year.

Unless I missed it being reported somewhere else, this is the first place I've seen the diagnosis of his injury... Good to see its only an ankle sprain

If he does in fact sign a contract with us that's even slightly team-friendly, I will reverse course on him immediately, despite the way I feel about his lazy penalties, lazy defense, poor positioning and inability to connect on a one-timer. I value loyalty.

So long as the isles don't give him a NTC or a NMC.

Leave themselves the option to trade him, 2-3 yrs down the road.

Agreed. I still don't know how he didn't tear his ACL/MCL. In fact, until I hear an MRI came back "negative" I'm going to suspect that Walsh told him not to get one for fear they would expose a larger injury thus reducing his value.

I've just never seen a football/hockey player go off the field/rink like that and not be out for months.

I rolled my leg like that going into the boards in January....double break an inch above the ankle...I can not see how all he has is a sprain as he looked to be in twice the pain I was.

i would give him 3 years for $12 million(4 million a year). if he declines trade him at the draft (ala philly and nashville a couple of years ago with timonen and hartnell)

Hopefully they re-sign him. We're not getting anyone better in the open market.

Yes. He's still unproven and he's not a rookie like Grabner. I would try 3 years, $ 11 million.

agreed. he's a nice piece of fluff, but not the kind of player you go to war with. i honestly would not give him any more than $3 mil a year, for two years...

I like PA but I wouldn't go more than 3 years on a contract. I would like to eventually see another 1st line talent playing on JT's wing.

I just don't see him signing here until he at leasts tests the market. He'll probably be leaving a lot of money on the table if he doesn't.

I know he keeps expressing how "badly" he wants to be an Islander, but I have to believe he's going to whatever team pays him the most money. This contract could set him up for the rest of his life, and all he wants is the cash.

Yes i think so. While he has had a solid season i would not want to commit to such a long term with him. Maybe something along the lines 3 years 9.5 Mil Maybe 10 Mil. If he wants 4 years the number i offer him goes down a little bit. He wants the longer term for Security i want to make sure i am not Screwing my self over.

he is 29. I do not think anyone is going to offer him more then 4 to 5 years. While 29 is not old it does seem a little late for a breakout season. Why would someone want to gamble on that ?

I like the idea of this contract. However if its only two years i could give him 3.5. However 3M would be good. Plus at the end of the two seasons he would only be 31. So if he says at a 60pt player he could most likely get 5 year deal from someone.
